When approached, the man ran toward the railroad tracks. Officers pursued him and reported that he held an object resembling a knife. The man turned toward the officers and said he would kill them. He reportedly advanced toward police, and officers opened fire. The man was later found to have been holding two mechanical pencils, not a knife. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. The Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation, and both officers were placed on administrative leave with pay.

On 10/15/2025, around 8:30 a.m., San Antonio police shot and killed 36-year-old Odon Paul Bustos outside a motel in the 6800 block of U.S. Highway 90 West near West Military Drive. Police said Bustos was armed and fired a gun during a confrontation with officers. Three officers opened fire, killing him at the scene. On 10/10/2025, around 6:30 a.m., a Garland Police officer driving east on West State Street struck a disabled truck stopped in the dark intersection at McKinley Street. A man standing in front of the truck, identified as 32-year-old Juan Pablo Rio Aguilar, was hit and fatally injured. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. On 10/08/2025, police investigated a series of connected shootings in Sugar Land and Houston. A woman was found shot to death in a vehicle in Sugar Land, and two more people were killed at a Houston mechanic shop. On 10/01/2025, Euless police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex near Raider Drive and Euless Boulevard. A woman was shot and transported to the hospital by a friend. The 35-year-old male suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment. SWAT and negotiators attempted to make contact for several hours before breaching the unit. The man was found dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His identity has not been released.

On 09/29/2025, a 16-year-old driver in a stolen Chevrolet truck was pursued by police through downtown Lufkin. The chase ended violently at the intersection of Third Street and Frank Street when the truck crashed into a Ford Explorer driven by Morgan Wright, 40. Wright suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a Tyler hospital, where she died later that evening. Wright was a speech pathologist at Lufkin ISD and the wife of Wells ISD superintendent Friday Wright. She is survived by her husband and two young children.

On 09/24/2025, at approximately 6:40 a.m., 29-year-old Joshua Jahn allegedly opened fire at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. He fired at the building and a transport van in the sallyport, striking three ICE detainees inside. One detainee was killed, and two others remain in critical condition. Jahn was later found on a nearby rooftop, dead by suicide under police duress. Ammunition at the scene was claimed by the FBI to have been engraved with “anti-ICE” messages. Oddly, no INCE officers were shot in an event which only targeted migrants. The FBI, Dallas Police Department, and ICE confirmed the incident and are conducting an investigation.

On 09/24/2025, 21-year-old Yahir David Martinez, a resident of Brownsville, died at the scene after crashing into a semi-trailer during a high-speed pursuit involving Border Patrol on State Highway 4 east of Indiana Avenue. The driver was carrying two passengers and had been transporting narcotics. The semi-trailer driver and the male passenger were hospitalized, treated, and released; the female passenger remains hospitalized. Martinez was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On 09/17/2025, Texas authorities located Jeffrey Scott Baker, 35, near Interstate 20 by Toyah. Baker was wanted for the double murder of his parents in Clayton, Oklahoma. Jose Luis Nunez Morales, 60, was shot and killed by a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputy on the 9100 block of Highway 87 in south Lubbock. After the fire was extinguished, fire crews discovered a deceased body and a rifle in the rubble. The man was wanted on felony assault of a family member and a protective order violation. On 08/31/2025, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Grand Prairie police responded after a woman called 911 from a vehicle traveling west on Interstate 30 from Dallas. According to police, the woman was screaming during the call and reported that her boyfriend, 22-year-old Nathan Alexander Orozco, was assaulting her while driving. She also told dispatchers that Orozco was intoxicated and had a handgun.

Police located the vehicle as Orozco exited Interstate 30 at Belt Line Road and stopped in a nearby gas-station parking lot. According to police, officers arrived while the reported assault was still occurring inside the vehicle. The woman got out through the passenger side as an officer approached the vehicle.

Police said the officer knew from the 911 information that Orozco had reportedly been armed. According to the department, the officer repeatedly ordered Orozco to show his empty hands as Orozco got out of the vehicle. Police alleged that Orozco did not comply and instead began reaching back inside the vehicle.

The officer opened fire, striking Orozco. Police said the officer fired because he believed Orozco was reaching for a firearm and posed an immediate threat to the officer and the woman. A loaded handgun was subsequently recovered from the area inside the vehicle toward which police said Orozco had been reaching.

Police also reported that witnesses told investigators Orozco had fired the handgun multiple times out of the vehicle's window before officers arrived. That account came from witness statements reported by police and was not independently established in the initial news coverage.

Officers rendered medical aid before Orozco was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office recorded his death at approximately 2:25 a.m.

Orozco's family publicly questioned the police response and asked to see the body-camera and dashboard-camera recordings. His mother, Marcia Davila, said the family believed the situation could have been handled differently. She said Orozco carried a firearm for protection while working at the family's restaurant and because the family owned a farm. On 08/29/2025, shortly after 10:30 a.m., San Antonio police responded to the 800 block of North Cherry Street on the city's East Side after multiple 911 callers reported a man with a shotgun. The man was later identified as 41-year-old Jaime Gonzalez. His identity and date of death are independently corroborated by funeral records, which list his birth date as February 17, 1984, and death date as August 29, 2025.

Police initially described the events preceding their arrival as an altercation involving Gonzalez and two other drivers near the Hays Street Bridge. In a subsequent account, police alleged Gonzalez had been driving erratically through the neighborhood before returning to his residence, obtaining a shotgun and firing several rounds into the air. One 911 caller reported that Gonzalez had pointed the gun at people, while another reported seeing him firing it upward.

Officers arrived and established positions outside Gonzalez's residence. Police attempted to communicate with him from outside and repeatedly ordered him to put down the firearm. Gonzalez was alone inside the residence.

Police later released body-camera and patrol-car video from the encounter. Because of where the officers were positioned, their body cameras did not provide a clear view of Gonzalez during the critical portion of the confrontation. A patrol-car camera provided the principal recorded view of the doorway.

The patrol-car recording shows Gonzalez appearing at a side doorway holding a shotgun. Police alleged that Gonzalez pointed the shotgun toward officers. An officer can be heard announcing that the side door was opening, followed by another warning that Gonzalez had a gun. Officers repeatedly yelled for Gonzalez to drop the firearm.

Five San Antonio officers then opened fire: Tyler Brown, Marco Trevino, Matthew Olivares, Joseph Orozco and Steven Flores. Gonzalez was struck multiple times and collapsed. Police Chief William McManus said Gonzalez did not fire the shotgun at officers before they shot him.

Police approached Gonzalez after the shooting and attempted medical treatment. Gonzalez died at the scene. The Bexar County Medical Examiner determined that he died from multiple gunshot wounds and classified the death as a homicide.

Matthew Olivares was already a named defendant in a federal civil-rights lawsuit when he participated in the Gonzalez shooting. Andres Carrillo sued the City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Police Department and Olivares in a case removed to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas in January 2025. The federal docket identifies the action as a civil-rights case under 42 U.S.C. §1983. The existence of the lawsuit is not a finding that the allegations against Olivares were proven.

On 08/28/2025, Austin Police Department detectives shot and killed 33-year-old Raymond Lee Howard during a planned arrest operation inside a ThunderCloud Subs at 1807 West Slaughter Lane in South Austin.

Police had been investigating Howard in connection with a series of residential burglaries and home invasions during August. Police alleged that firearms were taken during some of those burglaries and that on 08/27/2025 Howard entered an occupied home while armed with a handgun. The following day, the department's Major Crimes Suppression Unit organized an operation to locate and arrest him.

Detectives arranged to meet Howard at the shopping center as part of an operation involving the purported purchase of stolen property. Howard arrived on a motorcycle. Police watched him and confirmed his identity before three detectives—Marcus Gonzalez, Craig Pruitt and Ricardo Cardona—entered the ThunderCloud Subs shortly before 5:30 p.m.

The detectives were wearing police-marked vests and ordered Howard to get on the ground. Body-camera video subsequently released by Austin police shows Howard moving away from the detectives toward customer Fernando Martinez and pulling a handgun from a crossbody bag.

Martinez grabbed Howard and the two struggled. Police said Howard fired at least one round during the struggle. Gonzalez, Pruitt and Cardona then opened fire, striking Howard. Howard was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:46 p.m.

Martinez was also shot in the shoulder during the gunfire and was hospitalized. Initial reporting did not establish whether the bullet that struck Martinez came from Howard's gun or police gunfire. On 8/28/2025, numerous law enforcement agencies engaged in a manhunt after Lucas Stevens for “felony warrants.” The pursuit began when a Texas Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop 31-year-old Lucas Stevens in Longview due to active felony warrants. Stevens fled at high speed, crashed after crossing railroad tracks, and carjacked another vehicle. He continued through Gladewater, Big Sandy, and the Pritchett community in Upshur County, allegedly breaking into multiple homes, stealing firearms and UTVs, and killing a homeowner’s dog. A manhunt continued overnight as authorities determined he had moved into Smith County. He was first sought at one residence, then located at a second home off FM 2767 near the Gregg County line. Stevens barricaded himself inside, communicated with investigators, refused to surrender, and was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
