On February 17, 2025, at approximately 10:48 p.m., a Pierce County deputy observed a Tesla traveling eastbound on 128th Street East in Puyallup at speeds exceeding 100 mph. On November 8, 2024, Bryce Larson, a 36-year-old detained at Spokane County Jail, was found unresponsive in his cell around 4 p.m., shortly after returning from a court hearing. Larson had been held at the facility on charges related to theft and resisting arrest. He was pronounced dead in his cell. The Spokane County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

On September 30, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., corrections deputies at Pierce County Jail in Tacoma, Washington, found 35-year-old inmate Sabrina Voeller unresponsive in a housing unit. Voeller was pronounced dead at the scene. She had been booked into the jail shortly after midnight on September 29, 2024, and died several hours later. Investigators believe she may have ingested drugs prior to her arrival at the facility.

Washington State Patrol chased a vehicle for a moving violation. The driver fled and police escalated a chase that ended in the Riverside neighborhood when the vehicle T-boned a teenage driver and crashed into the bushes. The teenage bystander was injured. The man who was chased until he wrecked the vehicle died in the hospital from his injuries. He was described as a 50-year-old man by friends. Washington State in 2021 banned police pursuits. With pressure from the police lobby, the state lifted pursuit restrictions for serious felonies only in 2023. This pursuit was reportedly initiated for a moving violation with no reports of a dire emergency warranting a pursuit.

Vancouver Police were called to the Walnut Grove Area of Vancouver, Washington, where a man had allegedly threatened a neighbor and fired shots in the air. Police arrived and escalated a standoff involving Vancouver Police, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT. Police alleged at the man had slashed tires and was seen with a handgun. A drone was sent and reportedly documented the man to have a rifle. Police brought an armed vehicle, deployed flashbang grenades and engaged in a shootout with the man. Police shot and killed him.

On September 22, 2024, the Everett Police Department pursued a suspect involved in a shooting at the Park View Apartments in Everett. Officers responded to the scene around 1 p.m., where they found one deceased man and one woman with non-life-threatening injuries. By 1:40 p.m., officers located the person’s vehicle and initiated a pursuit that led onto northbound Interstate 5. The pursuit ended with a crash near milepost 190. After the crash, officers heard gunshots from the vehicle. Upon approaching the vehicle, they discovered the man deceased from a gunshot. No officers fired any shots during the incident. Investigations are ongoing by the Everett Police Department and local authorities.

Thurston County deputies try to stop a motorcycle for undisclosed reasons. The motorcycle did not stop and police escalated the chase in excess of 100 mph until the motorcyclist crashed and died. It is unknown why police undertook the chase. Police are only allowed to pursue a vehicle Washington State in cases of danger to someone.
