On 11/06/2025, law-enforcement officers from the West Virginia State Police responded to a call regarding a shooting in the Rock Road area of Mercer County, West Virginia. Investigators found 80-year-old Randall Mabe with gunshot wounds lying in the roadway. The suspect, Frederick Mabe (72), his brother, barricaded himself inside a residence with a firearm. Negotiators, K-9 units, and bomb technicians were deployed. According to authorities, Frederick Mabe opened fire on the response team, and officers returned fire, killing him. The incident remains under investigation.

On October 22, 2025, officers with the Clarksburg Police Department, along with members of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police, confronted a man at a home on East Pike Street in Clarksburg. Police reported that he was a large-scale drug distributor who was the subject of an active investigation. During the attempted arrest, heallegedly produced a firearm, and officers opened fire, striking and killing him. The West Virginia State Police is conducting the investigation.

Deputies responded to reports of a man attacking a woman in her driveway. David Browne returned to his home on Jenny Wren Drive, where he damaged property and armed himself with a hatchet. Around 2:00 a.m., Charleston police responded to a call at CAMC General Hospital involving a man armed with a gun. Officers made contact with Peter Lilly, who refused commands to drop the weapon. In the early hours of July 17, 2025, deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call on Charleston Road reporting a woman had been shot in the arm. Upon arrival at approximately 1:15 a.m., deputies encountered an armed male inside the residence. The man immediately opened fire at the deputies, initiating a tense standoff lasting several hours.
During the standoff, deputies evacuated nearby neighbors and secured a perimeter to contain the situation. The female was safely rescued from the residence and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Throughout the prolonged confrontation, the man reportedly fired multiple rounds, escalating tensions and forcing deputies to call in specialized negotiators.
In a final act during the early morning hours, the man turned the firearm on himself, inflicting a fatal gunshot wound. Deputies entered the residence shortly after and confirmed his death.
The incident is under active investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with West Virginia State Police. Authorities are reviewing body-worn camera footage, radio transmissions, and witness accounts to fully reconstruct the timeline and evaluate law enforcement response.

Nicholas Littleton, 37, was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when Wetzel County deputies attempted a traffic stop. Littleton refused to stop and deputies escalated a high-speed pursuit on WV Route 20, reaching over 110 mph. Near Wallace, Littleton lost control and struck a guardrail. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The reason for the attempted stop was not disclosed. Michaela Collins, 29, was riding as a passenger and also died in the crash.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle traveling eastbound on 5th Avenue. The driver refused to stop, and police chased him through multiple streets. The chase ended when police opened fire into the vehicle, striking and killing the male driver. On 03/06/2025, Charleston Police Department officers were conducting a search for someone involved in a recent shooting and robbery that left a victim in critical condition. During the operation, officers observed Disnime Mitchell, 23, entering the Dollar General Store on West Washington Street. As Mitchell exited the store, members of the SWAT team identified themselves and ordered him to surrender. Mitchell allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at the officers, prompting a SWAT officer to fire one round, striking Mitchell in the chest. Officers and medics rendered aid at the scene, and Mitchell was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Mitchell was wanted on first-degree robbery charges related to a February 23 incident in which a victim was shot multiple times and robbed.

On 02/13/2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., EMS responded to a breathing complaint involving a 65-year-old woman at a residence on Grapevine Road in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Upon arrival, EMS personnel were confronted by a man with a machete and a rifle. The woman indicated she was not experiencing a medical issue but feared harm from the man, who had threatened to shoot law enforcement upon their arrival. She was transported to Berkeley Medical Center. Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies and West Virginia State Police established a perimeter and, shortly after midnight, encountered the man armed with a rifle. Police stated he raised that weapon "in a threatening manner." Officers opened fire and killed him.

On November 21, 2024, Robert Bex, a 60-year-old male, barricaded himself inside a camper on Panther Lane and Trace Fork Road in Sandyville, Jackson County, West Virginia. The standoff began after Bex fired shots at his wife. Over the course of a 3-hour standoff, law enforcement attempted to negotiate with him. At approximately 3 hours into the situation, police shot and killed Bex. The incident is currently under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.

A suicidal man locked himself into a room with a propane tank and started releasing propane when he felt threatened by approaching police. Police began hunting a car in Wayne County, West Virginia and ended in Huntington after an intense high-speed chase by at least 2 police departments together. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed while being chased. A 68-year-old man was driving, and the passengers were identified as a 43-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old girl. All four were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Officials say the 16-year-old died at the hospital as a result of his injuries. Nazi memorabilia was found in the crashed vehicle. Police explained that this chase was drug-related.

Brady Hanna was driving on Route 41 when hit and killed by a police chase crash caused by a lengthy police pursuit of a stolen Ford F-150. Brady Hanna was a firefighter at the Nettie Fire Department. The police chase continued after his death when the man being hunted stole a police cruiser and desperately tried to escape in it, was chased into Craigsville where he stopped and surrendered to police.

West Virginia troopers were seeking Anthony Meyers for failure to register after release from jail but they also felt he may be linked to some burglaries which remain unproven as he died before an investigation could be launched.
