On February 24, 2021, Michael Darrell Smith, 34, was driving a car when Lumberton PD escalated a chase for outstanding warrants. The chase continued until Smith crashed into four other vehicles at the intersection of 7th Street and Roberts Avenue in Lumberton. Smith was killed in the crash.

On February 23, 2021, around 7:30 p.m., Jackson County Sheriff's Office deputies and Eagle Point Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a firearm in the 100 block of Idlewood Drive in Eagle Point. Before officers arrived, 39-year-old Dale Arthur Amstutz-Dunn left the location in an SUV with another man. Police stopped the vehicle on Stevens Road near Idlewood Drive, in the parking lot of Church on the Hill. Amstutz-Dunn produced a firearm and shot a deputy in the chest; however, the deputy's body armor prevented serious injury. During the ensuing shootout, Amstutz-Dunn diedfrom alleged suicide. A grand jury later found that the officers' use of force was justified.

On February 22, 2021, around 1:00 p.m., a motorcyclist on a Kawasaki refused to stop for the California Highway Patrol while traveling northbound on Interstate 15 near Fallbrook. The rider sped off at high speed and collided with a Toyota Camry and the center guardrail, suffering fatal injuries. He was transported to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The rider’s name was not released by officials, but he was described as a White male. The California Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation.

On February 22, 2021, a McDowell County sheriff’s deputy initiated a vehicle stop on Randolph Road in Nebo, North Carolina. During the stop, gunfire was exchanged between the deputy and the occupants of the vehicle for unknown reasons. Carlton James "C.J." Adams, 30, was fatally shot in the exchange. On February 21, 2021, 23-year-old Keean Smalls of Augusta, Georgia, died after a police pursuit ended in a crash. Around 4:00 a.m., Richmond County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop Smalls’ vehicle on Gordon Highway. Smalls did not stop, and deputies initiated a pursuit. The chase ended when Smalls drove through a Sprint gas station parking lot near Barton Chapel Road and crashed into the rear of a parked tractor-trailer. Smalls was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:55 a.m. He had to be extricated from the vehicle. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.

On 02/21/2021, Michigan State Police troopers responded to a call regarding an armed individual exhibiting irrational behavior in the 9700 block of North Wyman Road, Blancha Road. Andrew Allen Courser was reported to have fired a gun near homes and yelled at passing vehicles. Upon arrival, along with a Home Township police officer, Courser allegedly shot at the officers, who returned fire. Courser then barricaded himself in a barn approximately a quarter of a mile away from the initial scene. After a standoff lasting about four hours, Courser emerged from the barn, pointing a gun at the police. Troopers then shot and killed him. The incident is under investigation by the Michigan State Police.

Daniel Newton Neal, who had an active warrant for robbery, attempted to evade police. On February 20, 2021, officers from the Lonoke Police Department recognized a vehicle linked to a North Carolina child-abduction investigation parked at a McDonald’s in Lonoke, Arkansas. The driver, 38-year-old William Robert Ice of Pennsylvania, refused to stop, and police escalated a chase south on Arkansas Highway 31. The vehicle became disabled in a snowbank on Raprich Road. Ice exited with a firearm and opened fire on officers. Police returned fire. Ice was found inside the vehicle critically wounded from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot and later died at a Little Rock hospital. The Arkansas State Police is conducting the investigation. A 14-year-old girl in the vehicle was rescued unharmed.

Randall Lee Lockaby, a 57-year-old man, exited his vehicle and produced a gun. Both officers opened fire, killing him. The Kentucky State Police investigated and justified the shooting. On February 19, 2021, Costa Mesa Police officers responded to an incident near the 1500 block of South Coast Drive involving 34-year-old Jose David Valdez. Police said Valdez backed his vehicle toward passengers and then accelerated toward officers, prompting them to open fire. Valdez was struck and killed at the scene. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office conducted an investigation and later determined the shooting to be legally justified.

On February 18, 2021, Dallas police officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in the 5300 block of Bonita Avenue. Upon arrival around 11 a.m., they were met with gunfire from Sergio Sanchez, 57, who shot and wounded two officers in the legs. A SWAT team was deployed, and upon entering the home around 1:30 p.m., they found Sanchez and his wife, 31-year-old April Sanchez, deceased from gunshot wounds. Authorities reported that Sergio Sanchez had an extensive violent criminal history and did not want to return to prison after shooting his wife.

On 02/17/2021, the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a reported altercation on Albert Magee Road in Mount Hermon, Louisiana. Deputies encountered Dustin A. The incident began when California Highway Patrol officers identified Puga's vehicle, a white Ford Expedition, matching the description from a shooting incident the previous evening on Interstate 15. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Puga did not stop. Police escalated a chase involving both CHP and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies. The chase concluded at the intersection of Peach Avenue and Catalpa Street, where Puga's vehicle became disabled. After an hour-long standoff, during which officers fired beanbags, Puga exited the vehicle and was shot by officers after allegedly reaching for a firearm. Three bystanders—a man, a woman, and a 14-year-old boy—were injured by stray bullets during the incident. On February 17, 2021, deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff's Office attempted to arrest 28-year-old James Edward Coe for outstanding warrants. Deputies observed Coe and another individual leaving a residence in Salisbury and getting into a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.

The deputies, looking for a reason to stop him, stated that Coe had brake light and tag violations. This explanation was used to escalate a high-speed chase that continued until the I-85 southbound ramp near Julian Road. Coe reportedly exited the vehicle and fired a long gun, striking a police vehicle. Deputies returned fire as Coe fled into a wooded area, allegedly continuing to shoot at pursuing officers.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, Salisbury Police Department, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol, responded and established a perimeter. Coe was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

On February 17, 2021, around 8:40 p.m., two Houston police officers saw a black pickup truck speeding and followed it to a parking lot next to a taco truck on Little York Road. The driver exited the vehicle, pulled out a pistol, and robbed the taco truck. Both officers ordered him to drop the weapon. When he did not comply, both officers opened fire and killed him.

On February 16, 2021, around 9:20 p.m., Port of Seattle officers contacted the Seattle Police Department regarding Derek J. Hayden, a man in mental health crisis with a kitchen knife. When officers arrived, Hayden fled down Alaskan Way. PSPD officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by following Hayden. They also employed a less-lethal 40mm launcher that fires foam-tipped projectiles, but this method was unsuccessful in subduing him. On February 14, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., off-duty Corbin Police Department Sgt. Stephen Meadors was contacted at his residence on Dogwood Cove in Corbin, Kentucky, by a neighbor reporting a prowler. Sgt. Meadors went outside and encountered 19-year-old Phillip N. Davenport. An altercation ensued, during which Sgt. Meadors opened fire, killing Davenport. Davenport was transported to Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin, where he was pronounced deceased by the Whitley County Coroner. The Kentucky State Police investigated the incident. In October 2021, a Whitley County grand jury returned a "no true bill," clearing Sgt. Meadors of any wrongdoing.

On February 14, 2021, El Paso police responded to a family violence call at a residence in the 3400 block of Sunset Rose Drive. The man, Adam Bruce Connors, 32, had left the scene before officers arrived. Later, police received a report of a possible suicidal person involving Connors. Officers located him approaching the residence on foot, armed with a shotgun. Despite commands to drop the weapon, Connors continued toward the house, which was occupied by one adult and six children. Officer I.
