Shortly before 10 p.m. on 02/15/2023 police officers including members of the gang unit were at a Valero gas station and reportedly saw an assault rifle, pistol and drugs in an unoccupied vehicle parked in the 4000 block of Synott Road. Houston PD set up surveillance and when they saw a man get into the car and drive off, they tried a traffic stop. When the car did not stop, they escalated a high-speed chase that ended in a shootout in Sugar Land during which Houston PD shot and killed Tyquorious Walker at 13400 US 59 S. Seven officers simultaneously fired an unknown number of bullets and killed Walker. Walker had been speaking to family during the chase. Three of the officers who shot him had been special detectives with the gang unit of HPD.

Birmingham PD accused Andrew Goldsmith IV of the murder of Corieonna Hines and her unborn baby found shot and killed in the 100 Block of 9th Avenue West. Two female teenagers were also injured during the event. On February 7, 2023, the Birmingham PD’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT) saw Andrew Goldsmith in the 1600 Block of Bessemer Road inside a Marathon Gas Station.
CRT officers tried to arrest Andrew Goldsmith but hereportedly jumped inside a vehicle and sped off while 2 officers were involved in a minor car accident. Other officers escalated a chase that ended at the intersection of Bessemer Road and Avenue W after Andrew Goldsmithcollided with another driver. Goldsmith then crashed into a fence in the 2200 Block of Bessemer Road. Officers saw Andrew Goldsmith to be unresponsive in the car. He had committed suicide under police duress.

On Monday, May 8, 2023, at around 3:30 pm, on Bear Valley Road near Navajo Road, eyewitnesses reported a bloody adult male with a knife in the roadway. An eyewitness later said that the man had a gun at the apartment complex and there had been a shootout in which several bullets hit a nearby home. Police shot and killed the man.
