Mable Arrington was a single mom of 4 children who was beloved in her community. On 08/22/2022, police arrived at her house without a warrant and shot and killed her in front of her children just outside of the apartment. Police refused to give an explanation and also refused to release the bodycam footage despite protests and demands by friends, family and local community.
Family were left to piece together their own investigation since police were uncooperative with even most basic information. Family said that Arrington’s children had been mistreated by other children and someone had filed a complaint which got police involved. Police arrived and shot and killed Arrington who had multiple bullets in her body on autopsy. She is believed to have been unarmed. Police never explained the reason for her homicide.

Officers found Brandon Richardson, 32, who had been facing trial that day on attempted second-degree murder and related charges, including a January 17, 2021 shooting incident. On August 18, 2022, Tallahassee Police and U.S. Marshals Service officers went to a home on the 2900 block of Byington Circle to arrest 62-year-old Frank Copson, who had failed to appear in court on multiple felony charges. When officers attempted to apprehend him he barricaded himself inside the residence with a firearm, prompting a standoff that lasted more than 11 hours. Police evacuated nearby homes and attempted to negotiate with Copson throughout the night.
