On 04/20/2021, Lakewood police shot and killed a man during an armed search near West 3rd Place and Depew Street. Police responded to reports of shots fired and were told that one man had shot another before leaving the area. Officers later located the wounded person at a hospital and established a perimeter to search for the shooter.
During the search, officers encountered the armed man. Police reported that the man threatened to shoot officers. Officers opened fire and killed him at the scene.

On April 20, 2021, Columbus Police Officer Nicholas Reardon responded to a report of a fight outside a residence on the 3100 block of Legion Lane in Columbus, Ohio. Upon arriving at the scene, Reardon observed 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant holding a knife and charging toward another individual.

Reardon fired four shots, striking and killing Bryant. The incident was captured on body camera footage, which showed the moments leading up to and including the shooting.

Edgar Luis Tirado was involved in a string of robberies and a carjacking. While fleeing from the scene, he allegedly pointed a replica handgun at police officers as he ran across the interstate. Officers shot and killed him.

Around 9:38 p.m., officers were called to Valero due to a man reportedly acting "weird." Antonio Cantu began fighting with officers and was placed into a police vehicle. Cantu allegedly got out of the vehicle, took out a semi-automatic firearm, and shot at officers. In response, the officers shot and killed him.

On 04/19/2021, Dothan police shot and killed 39 year old Doward Sylleen Baker following a traffic stop near Trim Street and Third Avenue. An officer stopped Baker’s vehicle for not displaying a license plate. During the stop, police stated the officer observed a firearm inside the vehicle. Baker drove a short distance and stopped again nearby.
Police reported that Baker exited the vehicle while holding a gun. An officer deployed a Taser. During the encounter, police stated that Baker fired a shot that struck an officer in the leg. A second officer arrived, and officers opened fire, killing Baker at the scene.
The Houston County District Attorney reviewed the shooting and ruled the use of deadly force justified. Baker’s family later filed a civil lawsuit against the City of Dothan and the police department seeking damages. The civil case was pending at the time of later reporting.

On 04/19/2021, Fountain police officers and Colorado State Patrol troopers shot and killed 38 year old Robert Paul Garcia following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs. Law enforcement responded earlier to a reported attempted robbery at a Dairy Queen in Pueblo West. A short time later, officers spotted a pickup truck linked to the incident traveling northbound on I-25 at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
The truck briefly pulled over, and a passenger exited. The driver then accelerated and continued northbound on I-25. South of North Academy Boulevard, a trooper used a patrol vehicle to force the truck off the roadway. During the stop that followed, officers opened fire. Garcia, who was driving the truck, was struck by gunfire and killed at the scene.
The El Paso County District Attorney reviewed the shooting and ruled the use of deadly force justified. No officers were charged.

On 04/19/2021, Alameda police officers restrained Mario Gonzalez after responding to a report of a man acting erratically at a local business. On 04/18/2021, an incident involving five people being shot and wounded occurred in Detroit, Michigan. A person who was subsequently struck by a car nearby and died was believed to have been involved in this shooting. Following the initial incident, police initiated a pursuit of a black GMC driven by a 27-year-old male man traveling north on Gratiot Avenue. The chase continued until the driver reached 8 Mile Road, where he exited his vehicle at a strip mall. While fleeing on foot, the man allegedly fired shots at pursuing officers. Police opened fire, killing him. This event is under internal self-investigation by the Detroit Police Department.

On 04/18/2021, officers from the Burnsville Police Department found Bradley Olsen driving a vehicle with stolen plates when he subsequently crashed. Officers soon received a report that he was involved in a carjacking. Police pursued the carjacked vehicle, and Olsen allegedly fired at pursuing officers before crashing the vehicle and continuing to shoot at police, who then shot and killed him. Officers Dan Anderson, Brent Murray, Paul Oelrich, and Chris Walswick fired their guns.

On April 18, 2021, at approximately 6 p.m., Wayne County Sheriff's deputies attempted to serve outstanding warrants on Donnie Morris Butts Jr., 53, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. On April 17, 2021, Monroe County deputies escalated a chase and Malik Ali Malik was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided with a tree during the police pursuit. Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office chased Malik at speeds reaching up to 105 mph before the fatal crash occurred.

On April 17, 2021, around 3:30 a.m., Spokane Police responded to a report of a suspected car prowling in the 500 block of South Cannon Street. A victim reported that Vadim A. Grishchuk had broken into his vehicle and pointed a gun at him when confronted. When officers arrived, Grishchuk pointed the gun at police after being given commands and allegedly fired a shot. Officer Brandon Roy shot and killed Grishchuk during the encounter.

On 04/17/2021, Weld County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed 60 year old Smoky Lynn Crockett outside a residence on Casler Avenue in Fort Lupton. Deputies responded to a call reporting that a man was armed with a gun, preventing another individual from leaving the home, and making threats to kill them.
When deputies arrived, they located Crockett outside the residence while he was armed. Deputies engaged with him for several minutes. During the encounter that followed, deputies opened fire and killed Crockett at the scene.

On April 16, 2021, Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Coyote Canyon Place NW in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Juan James Cordova, 51, was reportedly armed and had fired a shot inside the house and was in mental health crisis per his girlfriend. On April 15, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Roswell Police Department officers assisted the Chaves County Sheriff's Office during a pursuit involving a white Ford pickup truck that had fled from a deputy during an attempted traffic stop. Roswell officers deployed two sets of tire deflation devices and missed.
The vehicle then entered the parking lot of a bank at 1901 N Main St in Roswell, New Mexico. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Victor Ivan Barron, exited the truck holding a firearm and attempted to run away on foot. Officers Danny Flott and Abrem Atencio, both with the Roswell Police Department, along with Chaves County Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel Lueras, each discharged their firearms, striking and killing Barron.

On April 15, 2021, 56-year-old Stephen B. Swears of Boynton Beach, Florida, died after evading law enforcement. Swears was being pursued by the St. George Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol on US 15 near Fox Run Road, Dorchester County. While fleeing, his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with another motorist’s vehicle, resulting in his death at 1:30 p.m. No other fatalities were reported, and the crash remains under investigation by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

On April 15, 2021, a high-speed pursuit by the California Highway Patrol ended when the driver of a white 2004 Toyota Camry fled southbound on Highway 1 from Dimeo Lane toward Morrissey Boulevard. The vehicle lost control on the off-ramp, struck a concrete curb, collided with a metal guardrail and caught fire. Nineteen-year-old Alyssa Roman of San Jose, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting a man with a knife who had cut himself inside the Ross clothing store. On 04/15/2021, Tuscaloosa police shot and killed 29 year old Roderick Inge following a police pursuit and confrontation in a wooded area near Skyland Boulevard. On 04/15/2021, Jeffrey Lilja attempted to evade Hull Police Department officers by jumping into the frigid waters of Hull Bay at the intersection of CadishAvenue and M Street in Hull. His body was recovered by State Police divers three days later.

On April 14, 2021, Aroostook County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 2:58 a.m. that reported a man, later identified as Jacob "Jake" Wood, holding a knife to a woman’s throat at a residence on Scovil Street in Mars Hill, Maine. Deputies arrived at the scene and made contact with Wood.

Despite repeated commands to drop the knife, Wood did not comply. He was reportedly holding a knife to the woman’s throat, and the situation quickly escalated. Deputy Isaac Ward, fearing for the woman’s safety and the potential for further escalation, discharged his firearm, fatally wounding Wood.

The woman was unharmed, and after the shooting, she was able to safely exit the residence. Following the incident, the Maine Attorney General's Office conducted an investigation and determined that the use of deadly force was justified under the circumstances, as Wood did not comply with law enforcement commands and posed a potential threat to both officers and the woman involved.

On April 14, 2021, a Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation and suspected impaired driving. The driver, identified as Zacery Kane Antrim, fled through Henry and Delaware Counties before crashing into another vehicle at McGalliard Road and Tillotson Avenue in Muncie. The passenger, 25-year-old Nicholas Wayne Wollum, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Antrim and the other driver, 47-year-old Shanta Sharrel Schmiesing, were transported to a hospital in critical condition. The Indiana State Police are investigating the pursuit and crash.

Around 12:40 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a man, Marcelo Garcia, suffering from a mental health crisis. Family members stated that Garcia had schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Upon arrival, the deputy was met at the front door by Garcia, who was armed with a knife. The encounter moved into the street, where Garcia allegedly refused to drop the weapon. The deputy reportedly attempted to use a Taser, but Garcia was still armed. The deputy then shot and killed him.

On 04/14/2021, a Harris County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed 46 year old Marcelo Garcia at his home in northeast Harris County. Garcia’s wife called police requesting help, stating that her husband was experiencing a mental health crisis. While en route, the deputy requested a mental health response unit, but none was available.
The deputy arrived at the residence and made contact with Garcia at the front door. During the encounter, Garcia held a knife. The deputy issued commands for Garcia to drop the knife. The deputy deployed a Taser and then opened fire, striking Garcia multiple times. Garcia died at the scene.

On April 13, 2021, Pennsylvania State Police responded to a domestic violence call in Saltlick Township, Fayette County. A woman had fled the residence and reported being assaulted and strangled by her husband, Keith Robert Tafoya. Upon arrival, troopers attempted to make contact with Tafoya, who fired a shotgun through a door, grazing one trooper. After several hours of standoff, Tafoya exited the home and raised a shotgun. Officers shot and killed him.
