On 05/03/2024, 23-year-old Roger Fortson, an active-duty U.S. Air Force serviceman stationed at Hurlburt Field, was fatally shot in his apartment at 319 Racetrack Road in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Deputy Eddie Duran of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a disturbance call unrelated to Fortson when he knocked on Fortson's door. Fortson, who was on a FaceTime call at the time, retrieved his legally owned firearm for self-defense and opened the door with the gun pointed downward. Deputy Duran immediately fired six shots, striking Fortson. Fortson was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

An internal investigation by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office concluded that Duran’s actions were "not objectively reasonable" and violated departmental policies. Duran was terminated from his position on 05/31/2024. On May 3, 2024, Fresno Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle operating without headlights near First Street and Gettysburg Avenue. The driver failed to yield, leading officers on a brief pursuit. The pursuit was terminated by a field supervisor, but the suspect vehicle continued westbound on Santa Ana Avenue, eventually jumping a curb into Cary Park near Fashion Fair Mall. The vehicle struck two pedestrians, 31-year-old Shaylee Henry and a 30-year-old male, who were standing behind the baseball backstop. Henry was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male victim sustained critical injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center. The suspect vehicle continued through the park's parking lot into a nearby neighborhood, where it became lodged between a pole and a tree near Santa Ana Avenue and Thesta Street. Two male suspects fled the scene on foot and remain at large. The Fresno Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.

Bonner did not respond, and the SWAT team ultimately breached entry into the home, where they found Bonner deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This incident was related to a domestic violence situation, as Bonner had previously been arrested in October 2023 for battery strangulation and false imprisonment involving the same victim.

On May 3, 2024, around 11 p.m., Placer County Sheriff's deputies patrolling near the 500 block of South Auburn Street in Colfax identified a maroon van in a McDonald's parking lot that matched the description of a vehicle involved in a burglary the previous day. Deputies approached the van and contacted the occupant, 37-year-old Stephen Todd Sharp, who was reportedly uncooperative. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, Sharp opened fire on the deputies, striking Deputy Richard Porter. Deputies returned fire, and Sharp was later found deceased inside the van. Deputy Porter was transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition and was released on May 6, 2024. Sharp, originally from Tennessee, had been living out of his van in the Colfax area.

On May 3, 2024, Orange Beach police initiated a high-speed pursuit after receiving a tip about a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian. The driver, 21-year-old Brooks Kaechele, fled west on Canal Road, and during the chase, he lost control of his 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The vehicle crashed into a guardrail, struck several traffic signs and trees, and then overturned into the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The car sank, and Kaechele, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene after being pulled from the water.
