On February 17, 2025, Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Kyle McAcy was killed while responding to a crash on Interstate 80 between Ashland and Greenwood. On December 25, 2024, at approximately 7: 15 a.m., Corrections Officer Andrew Lansing was assaulted by inmate Rashawn Cannon at Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe, Ohio. Officer Lansing sustained fatal injuries from the attack and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Inmate Cannon, serving time for felonious assault and weapon charges, has since been transferred to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On December 24, 2024, at approximately 2:44 a.m., Jeff Reynolds, a correctional officer with the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 29 near Elk Mound, Wisconsin, en route to fill a shift at the county jail. At the intersection with County Highway E, a northbound vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with Reynolds's vehicle. The other driver, a 40-year-old man from Eau Claire, was arrested and charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is leading the investigation.

On 12/24/2024, Anthony Russo, a 52-year-old former deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Riverside, California. Russo had been arrested earlier in the month on charges related to attempting to engage in sexual activities with a child.

Following his arrest, Russo was released on a $50,000 bond. Investigators have determined that his death was a suicide.

On December 23, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Illinois State Police Trooper Clay M. Carns, an 11-year veteran of the force, stopped on Interstate 55 near Blodgett Road in Channahon, Illinois, to remove debris from the roadway. After activating his emergency lights and exiting his vehicle, Trooper Carns was struck by a passing Chevrolet Silverado.

He was transported to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead. The driver involved is facing charges under Illinois' "Move Over Law," also known as Scott's Law, which requires motorists to slow down and change lanes when approaching stationary emergency vehicles.

On December 23, 2024, Officer Michael Horan of the Greensboro Police Department responded to a report of a man with a gun inside a Food Lion supermarket in Greensboro, North Carolina. Upon arrival, Officer Horan was fatally shot by the man.

The man fled the scene but was apprehended following a high-speed chase. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the incident. Officer Horan had been with the Greensboro Police Department since 2018 and was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard since 2000. He was known for his dedicated service to the community.
