Dy’Quarius Dydrikquez “DQ” Gilbert
Age :23
Gender :Male
Race : Black
Date : 05/11/2022
Location : Bussey Road near the Turner-Irwin County line
City : Not Disclosed
County : Irwin
State : Georgia
Agency : Ashburn Police Department
Officer(s) : Eric Taylor-Hair
Cause of Death : Vehicle
Event : Occupant killed by police chase crash
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
REASON FOR CHASE: Ashburn Police Officer Eric Taylor-Hair attempted to stop a 2002 Honda Accord after observing that it did not have an illuminated license-plate light.
.
NARRATIVE:
On 05/11/2022, 23-year-old Dy’Quarius Dydrikquez “DQ” Gilbert was killed when a 2002 Honda Accord crashed during an Ashburn Police Department pursuit that began in Turner County and ended on Bussey Road in Irwin County.
.
At approximately 2:39 a.m., Ashburn Police Officer Eric Taylor-Hair saw the Honda parked at the Honey Bear gas station. After the vehicle left the parking lot, Taylor-Hair observed that it did not have an illuminated license-plate light and attempted a traffic stop. The Honda continued away and Taylor-Hair initiated a pursuit.
.
The pursuit continued for approximately 10 miles on Bussey Road. Contemporary reporting placed speeds above 85 mph, while subsequent records described the Honda reaching more than 100 mph. Taylor-Hair continued the pursuit as Bussey Road crossed from pavement onto an unpaved dirt surface.
.
The Georgia State Patrol investigation concluded that the Honda entered a ditch, returned to the roadway and was subsequently struck by Taylor-Hair's police Ford F-150. Both vehicles overturned. A Sycamore Police Department officer responding to the pursuit subsequently crashed while attempting to avoid the wreckage.
.
Gilbert suffered massive traumatic injuries and died. The second occupant of the Honda survived after being ejected from the vehicle.
.
The identity of the Honda's driver became disputed after Gilbert's death. The official investigation identified Gilbert as the driver. Gilbert's family strongly disputed that conclusion and maintained that he had been the passenger. Their attorneys said their review of available video evidence contradicted portions of the official crash reconstruction.
.
Gilbert's mother, Shikina Wilson, subsequently filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit against the City of Ashburn, Officer Eric Taylor-Hair and unidentified officers. The federal complaint expressly alleged that Gilbert was riding as a passenger in the Honda and identified the other occupant as Tadasku King, the owner of the vehicle. Because Gilbert's position in the vehicle remains disputed between the official investigation and his family's subsequent litigation, he is conservatively classified here as an occupant rather than definitively as either driver or passenger.
.
The family's attorneys further alleged that Taylor-Hair had been warned over police radio that the paved road transitioned to dirt but continued the pursuit. They alleged that video showed Taylor-Hair entering the dirt section at high speed and contended that his Ford F-150 struck the Honda with sufficient force to cause the fatal crash. These allegations conflict with portions of the official reconstruction and should therefore remain explicitly attributed to Gilbert's family and attorneys.
.
OFFICER BACKGROUND:
Ashburn Police Officer Eric Taylor-Hair initiated and continued the pursuit. The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigated the fatal crash. Gilbert's family subsequently named Taylor-Hair as a defendant in federal civil-rights litigation arising from the pursuit and collision. In March 2025, the federal court dismissed the complaint without prejudice as an improperly structured pleading and permitted the plaintiff to replead; that ruling did not adjudicate the underlying factual allegations concerning the pursuit or collision.

Kyle Savage
Age :36
Gender :Male
Race : White
Date : 05/09/2022
Location : Not Disclosed
City : Keokuk
County : Lee
State : Iowa
Agency : Keokuk Police Department
Officer(s) : Not Disclosed
Cause of Death : Vehicle
Event : Bystander pedestrian killed by police chase crash
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
REASON FOR CHASE: Kyle Savage was struck during a Keokuk Police Department pursuit. The verified public reporting does not clearly establish why police originally attempted to stop the vehicle. Subsequent charges against the driver included eluding, speeding, five traffic-control violations and driving without a license.
.
NARRATIVE:
On 05/01/2022, 36-year-old Kyle Savage of Keokuk was critically injured when he was struck while on foot by a vehicle being pursued by the Keokuk Police Department. Savage was an uninvolved pedestrian and was not the person police were attempting to apprehend.
.
The collision occurred during the early morning hours while the driver was continuing away from Keokuk police. During the pursuit, the vehicle struck Savage. Emergency personnel transported Savage for medical treatment, and he was subsequently airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City because of the severity of his injuries.
.
Savage remained hospitalized for eight days. He died from his injuries on 05/09/2022. He was 36 years old.
.
Prosecutors subsequently charged the driver with homicide by vehicle and eluding resulting in death, along with multiple traffic offenses. He ultimately pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle by eluding.
.
In September 2022, the court sentenced the driver to an indeterminate term of up to 10 years in prison for Savage's death. His parole in an earlier criminal case was also revoked, and the sentences were ordered to run consecutively, resulting in a total indeterminate prison term of up to 20 years.
.
The available verified public reporting does not provide a reliable maximum pursuit speed, total distance or duration and does not clearly establish the original reason Keokuk police attempted the stop.
.
OFFICER BACKGROUND:
The Keokuk Police Department did not publicly identify the officer who initiated the pursuit or the other officers who participated in the verified sources located.

Alexander Richard Emm
Age :20
Gender :Male
Race : Latino/a/e
Date : 05/07/2022
Location : Interstate 80 near Washoe County mile marker 43
City : Fernley area
County : Washoe
State : Nevada
Agency : Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division
Officer(s) : Not Disclosed
Cause of Death : Vehicle
Event : Driver killed after traffic stop
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
REASON FOR CHASE: Nevada State Police responded to reports of a vehicle repeatedly failing to maintain its lane on Interstate 80. A trooper located Alexander Richard Emm and conducted a traffic stop. After initially stopping on the shoulder, Emm made a U-turn and began driving west in the eastbound lanes.
.
NARRATIVE:
On 05/07/2022, 20-year-old Alexander Richard Emm of Yerington was killed when the 2007 Ford Fiesta he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 80 in Washoe County shortly after a Nevada State Police traffic stop.
.
At approximately 3:56 p.m., Nevada State Police received reports of a white Ford Fiesta traveling east on Interstate 80 near State Route 439/USA Parkway and repeatedly failing to maintain its travel lane. A Highway Patrol trooper located the vehicle near Washoe County mile marker 47.
.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop and directed Emm onto the right shoulder. Emm initially stopped. He then made a U-turn on the interstate and began traveling west in the eastbound lanes toward oncoming traffic.
.
Approximately four miles from the traffic-stop location, near mile marker 43, Emm's Ford collided with an eastbound Jeep Grand Cherokee. Emm suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Jeep driver was transported to a hospital with injuries.
.
Nevada State Police reported that impairment was suspected in the collision. Because that determination was attributed to police rather than established independently in the available reporting, it should not be stated as fact.
.
The Nevada State Police Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team investigated the fatal collision under case #220500447. The available account establishes a police-initiated traffic stop immediately before Emm began driving the wrong direction, but does not establish that police actively pursued his vehicle after he left the stop.
.
Emm was born on 05/20/2001 and was 20 years old when he died, less than two weeks before his 21st birthday. I located memorial references consistent with Alexander Richard Emm of Yerington, but I am keeping biographical material out of the final narrative unless it can be independently tied to him through a sufficiently reliable source.
.
OFFICER BACKGROUND:
Nevada State Police did not publicly identify the Highway Patrol trooper who conducted the traffic stop in the verified sources located. No subsequent active police pursuit is described in the available official account.

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
St. Louis police chased a teenager at high speed into a crash with a minivan, killing 5 of 7 family members. Some controversy ensued because the vehicle had been driving 82 mph when police placed spike strips and 29 seconds after hitting the spike strips, the teenager lost control over the allegedly stolen Jeep and crashed. The dead include mom Angelique Simmons, her daughter Rhonda Simmons, two uncles Luther Simmons, and 11-year-old niece Takara Thompson. Two other children were critically hurt in the police chase crash also.
In response to this crash, the St. Louis city and county chapters of the NAACP want to talk with local police chiefs. The NAACP says data collected on police pursuits makes a strong case for opting not to pursue vehicles. They’re calling it a “public safety emergency.”
