On May 7, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., a deputy from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a 2014 Kia Optima driven by 36-year-old Isaiah Thomas of Thibodaux, who was wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation. Thomas drove northbound on Louisiana Highway 308 at a high rate of speed. Police escalated a pursuit. The deputy allegedly called off the chase; however, Thomas attempted to pass a northbound 2024 Nissan Frontier in a marked no-passing zone and collided head-on with a southbound 2021 Honda Accord. The Kia then sideswiped the Nissan and a southbound 2023 Ford F-150. Thomas, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site. All other drivers involved were properly restrained and sustained either minor injuries or were uninjured. Standard blood toxicology samples were collected from Thomas for analysis. All other drivers involved voluntarily submitted breath or blood toxicology samples for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

On May 5, 2025, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a home in the 10000 block of Mustang Circle. After receiving no response, deputies heard a gunshot. A drone was deployed and revealed four deceased individuals inside with gunshot wounds. The deceased included Leroy Sadler, 60; his wife Judy Sadler; their son James Sadler; and granddaughter Adalynn Sadler. The deaths of Judy, James, and Adalynn were ruled homicides. Leroy Sadler is believed to be the shooter in an apparent murder-suicide.

Gregory Williams, 42, was shot and killed by a New Orleans Police Department officer in the parking lot of Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street on 05/02/2025. An officer working private security was alerted by a shopper to a man unresponsive in a vehicle. After administering Narcan to revive him from a suspected overdose, Williams became erratic. When the officer attempted to intervene, Williams drove away with the officer partially inside the vehicle, hitting a bystander and a parked truck. The officer was dragged and pinned near the truck. She opened fire and shot Williams in the chest. The vehicle continued crashing into other cars before stopping. Williams died at the scene. The officer and bystander were transported to the hospital. The incident is under investigation.

On April 30, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., deputies from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office and officers from the New Iberia Police Department attempted to take 30-year-old Justin Rhine into custody under an Order of Protective Custody. Upon contact near the intersection of Ann Street and Buckeye Street in New Iberia, Rhine fled from officers. During the encounter, he produced a firearm, prompting officers to discharge their service weapons, fatally striking him. Rhine was pronounced dead at the intersection. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is conducting an ongoing investigation into the shooting.

On 04/24/2025, Jacob Faulstich Jr., a 30-year-old White male from Marrero, Louisiana, died in a crash while fleeing from St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's deputies. Deputies made contact with Faulstich, who then drove away northbound on U.S. Highway 51 in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. Police escalated the situation into a high-speed pursuit. As the chase approached Woodland Drive, Faulstich attempted to overtake another vehicle, causing his Camaro to collide with the front left of the other car. The impact caused Faulstich to lose control of his vehicle, which then ran off the road and struck a traffic signal pole. Faulstich, who was unrestrained at the time, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were properly restrained and uninjured. The crash remains under investigation.

On April 14, 2025, 47-year-old Cabrina Stanley entered the McDonald's on West Pine Street in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, where her husband, Kevin Stanley, was working. An argument ensued, during which Cabrina chased Kevin outside and shot him in the hand near a neighboring car wash. Kevin managed to flee and seek help. When officers arrived, they repeatedly instructed Cabrina to drop her weapon. She refused and fatally shot herself at the scene. Kevin Stanley was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Gregory Thompson, 60, was the prime suspect in the disappearance and death of Bernadine Rogers, 60, who was reported missing on 03/03/2025 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Her body was discovered on 03/06/2025. Authorities identified Thompson as a suspect due to his relationship with Rogers and conflicting statements about their association. After the discovery of Rogers' body, he ceased communication with law enforcement. On 03/16/2025, Concordia Parish deputies, narcotics task force agents, and Vidalia police officers arrived at Thompson’s residence in Clayton, Louisiana, to execute an arrest warrant. As officers attempted entry, Thompson shot himself. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On February 25, 2025, Cokette Jean Meyer, 57, was found dead at the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. Around 1:40 a.m., Meyer was under observation by jail medical staff and parish deputies when she suffered a medical emergency. EMS transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Meyer had been in custody since January 17, following her arrest by Slidell Police on charges of disturbing the peace and resisting arrest by force or violence. On February 22, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred on U.S. Highway 84 near Cut-Off Road in Coushatta, Louisiana. The incident involved a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Deputy Asia Pikes of the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office, and a 2022 Nissan Rogue, driven by 70-year-old Ella Winn of Coushatta. Deputy Pikes was responding to a call with emergency lights and sirens activated, traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 84. Simultaneously, Winn was traveling eastbound and, for reasons still under investigation, made a left turn, resulting in a collision with the Tahoe. Winn, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputy Pikes sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.

On January 25, 2025, Isaiah La’Ron Treadway, 22, was shot and killed by deputies from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office at an Academy Sports + Outdoors location in Alexandria, Louisiana. According to his mother, he was unarmed and running away from the store. A deputy from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office who was moonlighting as security at the store tried to arrest him for alleged shoplifting. It is not known why he was killed when he was reportedly unarmed, and could not have presented a serious threat to police according to his family.

On January 18, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) responded to a 911 call from a 13-year-old girl reporting that her father had shot her mother and siblings at their residence on Stephen Drive in River Ridge, Louisiana. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 40-year-old Dung Pham and her 2-year-old daughter, Amy Bohne, deceased in the hallway from gunshot wounds. Two other children were found injured: a 13-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her ankle and a 9-year-old girl in critical condition who underwent emergency surgery, with the outcome unknown. Deputies located 46-year-old Glenn Bohne Jr. armed in a back bedroom. When he produced a firearm, deputies fired upon him, resulting in his death at the scene. On January 1, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old male, drove a rented pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. On December 21, 2024, around 11:15 p.m., a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop an allegedly stolen vehicle driven by 48-year-old Timothy Douglas of Ponchatoula. Douglas did not stop. Police escalated a chase that ended at an apartment complex on South Baptist Road near U.S. Highway 190 in Hammond. After abandoning the vehicle at the apartment complex, Douglas fled on foot.

Deputies chased him and fired a Taser at him, provoking a physical altercation. A deputy opened fire and killed Douglas. Police alleged that they found a gun "at the scene" but have so far not claimed that he had used it. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is handling the investigation.

On 11/25/2024, deputies from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident on Scallan Street near Martin Luther King Drive in Marksville, Louisiana. During the encounter, 18-year-old Howard Williams was shot by a deputy. Investigators reported that a gun was found near Williams at the shooting scene. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but died the following day.

On November 14, 2024, in Convent, Louisiana, 45-year-old Travis Self shot and killed his one-year-old daughter before taking his own life. Deputies from the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office were initially called to a residence in Paulina by a woman concerned about the welfare of Self and their child. Upon locating Self, the situation escalated into a vehicle pursuit involving the Gonzales Police Department and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, culminating at the intersection of Highway 44 and Highway 642 in St. James Parish.

When the vehicle stopped, officers discovered that Self had fatally shot his infant daughter during the pursuit before turning the gun on himself. Self was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

On November 8, 2024, Donna Chimeno, a 60-year-old woman, was killed in a crash involving an off-duty deputy from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. The deputy, driving an unmarked vehicle, was involved in a multi-vehicle incident on Nelson Road. The collision began when Chimeno’s car was struck from behind by a Jeep Cherokee, which caused her vehicle to cross the centerline and be hit head-on by a delivery van. The authorities have not disclosed whether the deputy was directly involved in the crash but are investigating the incident further. No injuries were reported from the other vehicles involved, and toxicology tests have been performed on all involved drivers.

On October 31, 2024, around 10:30 a.m., the Major Crimes Task Force was conducting a narcotics investigation near Medical Center Boulevard and 10th Street in Marrero, Louisiana. Officers attempted to arrest 42-year-old Wendell Smith of New Orleans, who fled in a vehicle. Police pursued Smith until Patriot and Mimosa Streets.

During the stop, Smith allegedly engaged in a shootout with police. Officers returned fire, and Smith was struck by at least one gunshot. He was transported to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

On 10/01/2024, the Sunset Police Department and the Opelousas Police Department located a vehicle reported stolen from a commercial parking lot. The vehicle, driven by 17-year-old Tashawn Jackson, did not stop when officers attempted a traffic stop. Police escalated a high-speed pursuit, reportedly exceeding speeds of 100 mph that ended when the vehicle crashed in the 1100 block of East Vine Street. Tashawn Jackson was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the crash site. The investigation into the pursuit and crash is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed the names of the officers involved.

On 09/26/2024, deputies from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a gun in the 100 block of Nicholas Street. Officers arrived and confronted 58-year-old Charles Verdin, who was seen with what appeared to be a firearm. Law enforcement alleged that Verdin pointed the weapon toward officers, and deputies opened fire, striking him multiple times. Verdin was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders.

On 09/17/2024, deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Steven Fifer at a residence on the 5500 block of Hamerick Drive in Marrero. Fifer, wanted on multiple charges, including aggravated battery, theft, home invasion, and violation of a protective order, locked himself inside the house. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrived, established a perimeter, and escalated a standoff.

SWAT officers deployed smoke bombs to force Fifer out of the residence. At approximately 11:00 a.m., Fifer exited the house armed with a gun. According to Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, Fifer raised the weapon toward officers, who then opened fire, killing him at the residence. The identities of the deputies involved have not been disclosed.

Officers encountered 31-year-old Chevis Whalen in the roadway near the motel, allegedly armed. Officers allegedly ordered him to drop the gun, then engaged in a shootout during which police shot him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

On 09/07/2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., Lafayette Police Department officers responded to a burglary report in the 100 block of Sybil Drive. Officers approached a vehicle near the residence believed to be connected to the report. As officers approached on foot, the vehicle moved in their direction.

An officer opened fire, striking 27-year-old Rigoberto Sanchez. Sanchez died at the scene from gunshot injuries. The Louisiana State Police is investigating the shooting.

On 09/04/2024, Taylor Alexander did not stop when Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies attempted to pull him over. Police escalated a high-speed chase northbound onto LA Highway 3195. Alexander missed a curve, crossed into the southbound lane, exited the roadway, and overturned in a ditch.

Alexander sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. On 10/02/2024, Alexander died from his injuries. The Louisiana State Police is investigating the incident.
