On 07/05/2025 at approximately 3:40 a.m., Baton Rouge Police Department officers responded to a disturbance involving an emotionally distressed individual on Washington Avenue near North Foster Drive. Anthony Pursley, 38, was reportedly under the influence of narcotics and armed with a sharp object. Officers attempted to use a Taser, which was ineffective. One officer then fired, striking Pursley. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two officers have been placed on administrative leave pending investigation.

On July 3, 2025, just before 7:40 a.m., Lake Charles Police responded to a 911 call reporting a man pointing a gun at passing vehicles on 12th Street. The first officer on scene reported being shot at multiple times as she exited her patrol vehicle. She returned fire, and the man fled on foot into a residential area.
Officers then set up a perimeter and tracked the man to a nearby shed. He emerged from hiding, brandished a firearm, and ran toward SWAT officers while continuing to fire. SWAT officers returned fire, striking and disabling him. He was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. Investigators found a stolen handgun at the scene.
No officers were injured during the incident. Six officers have been placed on administrative leave following department policy. Louisiana State Police detectives have taken over the investigation and continue to reconstruct the events using command logs, shell casings, recovered firearms, and body/dash camera footage.

On May 7, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., a deputy from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a 2014 Kia Optima driven by 36-year-old Isaiah Thomas of Thibodaux, who was wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation. Thomas drove northbound on Louisiana Highway 308 at a high rate of speed. Police escalated a pursuit. The deputy allegedly called off the chase; however, Thomas attempted to pass a northbound 2024 Nissan Frontier in a marked no-passing zone and collided head-on with a southbound 2021 Honda Accord. The Kia then sideswiped the Nissan and a southbound 2023 Ford F-150. Thomas, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site. On 04/24/2025, Jacob Faulstich Jr., a 30-year-old White male from Marrero, Louisiana, died in a crash while fleeing from St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's deputies.
