On 11/12/2025 shortly before 3:00 a.m., a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop on a 2016 Chevrolet Trax for an equipment violation near US 51 and Velma Road. The driver, Trey Ramey, fled from the scene and fired multiple shots at responding officers. A carjacking followed of a 2015 Toyota Camry. In the pursuit the stolen vehicle crashed and Ramey fled on foot into a wooded area. During the foot‐pursuit a Trooper discharged their service weapon and Ramey was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital where he later died.

On October 31, 2025 at about 8:30 p.m., officers of the New Orleans Police Department responded to reports of a man armed with a gun pointing it at bystanders near Canal Street and North Galvez Street. The man, later identified as 54-year-old Emmanuel Harris, entered a convenience store at the location and reportedly held a woman hostage for approximately 11 minutes. Believing the woman’s life to be in immediate danger, officers fired their weapon, striking Harris. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died. The hostage was unharmed. An investigation by the department’s Public Integrity Bureau and other units is ongoing.

On August 22, 2025, Phillip Francis Jr., 44, was killed by a gunshot at the Woodspring Suites hotel on Hugh Wallis Road in Lafayette, Louisiana. On 08/21/2025 at approximately 10:08 p.m., Baton Rouge Police attempted to stop a 2020 Honda Accord in the Mall City area for a traffic violation. The driver, 24-year-old Janae Fieldings, continued driving and officers escalated a chase. She lost control near North Foster Drive and Greenwell Springs Road, crashing into a water line, wooden fence, and the rear of a business. The vehicle caught fire. Fieldings died at the scene. Two passengers were pulled from the vehicle and transported to the hospital in critical condition.

On 07/29/2025, DeQuincy Police arrested 37-year-old Clifton Dale Boudreaux for an alleged attempted home invasion. Police stated he resisted arrest, punched and kicked an officer, and was subdued with a Taser before being transported to the DeQuincy Police Department. While in a holding room, Boudreaux began jumping up and down, then collapsed. He was transported to Cal-Cam Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No firearms were discharged. On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers with the Kenner Police Department attempted to stop a gold Honda Pilot driven by 26-year-old Elvin Santos Banegas in connection with alleged road-rage behavior in the vicinity of Airline Highway and Taylor Street.
When Banegas refused to stop, officers escalated the encounter into a high-speed pursuit, with speeds reportedly reaching 90 miles per hour. The chase moved northbound on Taylor Street, where Banegas crossed West Metairie Avenue, vaulted over a curb and canal, and crashed into the opposite canal bank.
The vehicle sustained significant damage in the crash. Banegas was found critically injured and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

On July 3, 2025, just before 7:40 a.m., Lake Charles Police responded to a 911 call reporting a man pointing a gun at passing vehicles on 12th Street. The first officer on scene reported being shot at multiple times as she exited her patrol vehicle. She returned fire, and the man fled on foot into a residential area.
Officers then set up a perimeter and tracked the man to a nearby shed. He emerged from hiding, brandished a firearm, and ran toward SWAT officers while continuing to fire. On the morning of June 19, 2025, at approximately 10:45 a.m., officers assigned to a paid detail were flagged down in the 1900 block of Tchoupitoulas Street regarding a shoplifting incident at Walmart. Officers located a man matching the description near the store. When they attempted to intervene, he fled on foot into the street. As they pursued him for a short distance, he produced two knives and stabbed himself in the neck multiple times. Officers fired a taser at the dying man. The man was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that day. The Kia then sideswiped the Nissan and a southbound 2023 Ford F-150. Thomas, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site. All other drivers involved were properly restrained and sustained either minor injuries or were uninjured. Standard blood toxicology samples were collected from Thomas for analysis. All other drivers involved voluntarily submitted breath or blood toxicology samples for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

On May 5, 2025, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a home in the 10000 block of Mustang Circle. After receiving no response, deputies heard a gunshot. A drone was deployed and revealed four deceased individuals inside with gunshot wounds. The deceased included Leroy Sadler, 60; his wife Judy Sadler; their son James Sadler; and granddaughter Adalynn Sadler. The deaths of Judy, James, and Adalynn were ruled homicides. Leroy Sadler is believed to be the shooter in an apparent murder-suicide.

Gregory Williams, 42, was shot and killed by New Orleans police outside the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street after officers responded to a call about a man experiencing an overdose. As officers attempted to provide aid, Williams allegedly became combative, got into his vehicle, and drove off while dragging one officer. Another officer opened fire, striking and killing Williams. The officer who was dragged was hospitalized. The incident is under investigation.

On April 30, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., deputies from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office and officers from the New Iberia Police Department attempted to take 30-year-old Justin Rhine into custody under an Order of Protective Custody. Upon contact near the intersection of Ann Street and Buckeye Street in New Iberia, Rhine fled from officers. During the encounter, he produced a firearm, prompting officers to discharge their service weapons, fatally striking him. Rhine was pronounced dead at the intersection. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is conducting an ongoing investigation into the shooting.

On 04/24/2025, Jacob Faulstich Jr., a 30-year-old White male from Marrero, Louisiana, died in a crash while fleeing from St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's deputies. Deputies made contact with Faulstich, who then drove away northbound on U.S. Highway 51 in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. Police escalated the situation into a high-speed pursuit. As the chase approached Woodland Drive, Faulstich attempted to overtake another vehicle, causing his Camaro to collide with the front left of the other car. The impact caused Faulstich to lose control of his vehicle, which then ran off the road and struck a traffic signal pole. Faulstich, who was unrestrained at the time, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were properly restrained and uninjured. The crash remains under investigation.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the man, who began shooting at them. Officers returned fire, striking the man. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, 30-year-old Brandon Wright of Pineville, refused to stop and police escalated a chase. The trooper lost sight of the vehicle, and nearly 50 minutes later it was located down an embankment and partially submerged in a bayou near Powell Lane. Wright was unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, 33-year-old Aaron Watson of Amite, also died in the crash.

On April 14, 2025, 47-year-old Cabrina Stanley entered the McDonald's on West Pine Street in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, where her husband, Kevin Stanley, was working. An argument ensued, during which Cabrina chased Kevin outside and shot him in the hand near a neighboring car wash. Kevin managed to flee and seek help. When officers arrived, they repeatedly instructed Cabrina to drop her weapon. She refused and fatally shot herself at the scene. Kevin Stanley was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Gregory Thompson, 60, was believed to be involved in the disappearance and death of Bernadine Rogers, 60, who was reported missing on 03/03/2025 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Her body was discovered on 03/06/2025. Authorities identified Thompson as a suspect due to his relationship with Rogers and conflicting statements about their association. After the discovery of Rogers' body, he ceased communication with law enforcement. On 03/16/2025, Concordia Parish deputies, narcotics task force agents, and Vidalia police officers arrived at Thompson’s residence in Clayton, Louisiana, to execute an arrest warrant. As officers attempted entry, Thompson shot himself. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
