On 11/09/2025, officers from the Lincoln Police Department responded to a mental-health crisis call around 8:00 p.m. at a home near 54th and Meredeth Streets in Lincoln. They found a man in his 40s attempting to enter the residence through a basement window. The officers took him into custody, searched him, and placed him in the back of a police cruiser. While officers were interviewing witnesses, the man moved his handcuffed hands to the front of his body, retrieved a firearm that had reportedly been missed during the search, and shot himself. He was transported to a local hospital and later died. No officers were reported injured, and the officer whose cruiser was involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on August 7, 2025, Nebraska State Patrol troopers attempted a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on Interstate 80. The driver refused to stop, initiating a high-speed pursuit that transitioned onto Interstate 680. Nebraska State Patrol immediately escalated the operation, coordinating with the Omaha Police Department Air Support Unit and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies to create a multi-layered containment strategy.
Troopers aggressively pursued at high speed while Omaha Police launched their helicopter to maintain continuous aerial tracking of the vehicle. Douglas County deputies staged ahead on the route to prepare tactical intervention points. Law enforcement deployed stop sticks to shred the truck’s tires, forcing it into a progressively slower but still dangerous flight.
During the pursuit, the driver began firing a handgun from the moving truck toward pursuing officers, escalating the incident to an active armed threat. Troopers and deputies maintained armed readiness while maneuvering to contain the vehicle without risking civilian traffic.
The chase concluded when the F-150 crashed into a tree near North 88th and Sunrise Boulevard. Within seconds, a police K-9 team was deployed to locate the driver, who was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers disarmed him and he was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation, with ballistic evidence, dashcam and helicopter footage, and pursuit logs under review to reconstruct the sequence of events.

On the morning of July 12, 2025, James Raymond Kemp, 39, called 911 and reported that he had fatally shot his 37-year-old brother, Christopher Kemp, at their shared residence at 1609 West Second Street in North Platte, Nebraska. The initial call triggered a multi-agency response, including officers from the North Platte Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Nebraska State Patrol.
Upon arrival, officers found themselves in an active standoff situation. James Kemp had reportedly barricaded himself inside the home with his 11-year-old son, refusing to allow the child to leave. Police set up a perimeter and initiated a lengthy negotiation process with Kemp.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., Kemp agreed to release the child, who was safely removed from the residence by officers. Just minutes later, officers on the perimeter reported hearing a single gunshot from inside the home. A tactical team made entry and found James Kemp dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His brother, Christopher Kemp, was located deceased inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds.
Officials have not confirmed whether Kemp made any additional threats, left a note, or was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation, which includes autopsy results, firearm tracing, and motive determination.

Dodge County deputies were allegedly conducting an undisclosed investigation and tried to contact a man in a residence in the 2500 block of East 34th Boulevard in Fremont. The man refused to speak with police who advanced to hear him firing a shot upstairs, having committed suicide under police duress. Police never explained the fatal incident.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office said deputies tried to traffic-stop a vehicle heading west on I-80 at 3:11 p.m., but the driver turned around and drove the wrong way on the interstate. SCSO said the vehicle crossed over into the eastbound lanes near the Milford exit and continued on I-80. Deputies apparently followed him head-on in the wrong direction at high speeds until it came to a stop on I-80 near the Pleasant Dale exit. No video or eyewitnesses can be located so far.
Officer Anthony Gann was charged with manslaughter in April of 2024 and was arrested with trial pending.
