On March 29, 2021, Springfield Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at the Bass Pro call center on East Kearney Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Troy Rapp deceased from gunshot wounds. Witnesses identified 28-year-old Joshua A. Anderson as the shooter. Anderson fled the scene, leading to a police pursuit that ended when Anderson crashed his vehicle near Glenstone Avenue and Kearney Street. Officers found Anderson with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries on April 1, 2021. On March 28, 2021, deputies with the Greensville County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance call at the Quality Motel on U.S. Route 301. The caller complained of a white Ford Crown Victoria playing loud music in the parking lot. When a deputy arrived, the vehicle, driven by Daiquan Tarez Wright, was seen leaving the motel at a high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but Wright fled down Liberty Road, reaching speeds of 60 mph. Wright's vehicle ran through standing water, lost control, struck a mailbox and fire hydrant, and then crashed into a tree, resulting in his death.

On 03/27/2021, Landon J. Payne’s spouse called 911 requesting non-police assistance for a mental health and drug crisis. Police were dispatched instead. After arriving, Lane County sheriff’s deputies determined Payne had an outstanding warrant and attempted to arrest him. Deputies said Payne resisted. Deputies deployed Tasers multiple times and handcuffed him. Payne was placed into a patrol vehicle, where officers observed signs of medical distress, including incoherent speech and erratic movement. Deputies transported Payne to jail. Upon arrival, deputies removed him from the vehicle, restrained him on the ground, and held him facedown while applying pressure to his back and head for an extended period. Payne lost consciousness and died shortly afterward. His family disputed the deputies’ account and filed a civil lawsuit alleging excessive force, repeated Taser use, and positional asphyxia during restraint. No deputies were criminally charged.

On 03/26/2021, Weld County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on County Road 70 after a woman reported that Steven Michael Kielian had assaulted her, remained inside the home, and had access to firearms. Deputies arrived around 5:45 p.m. Kielian later ran from the residence. Deputies fired a bean-bag round in an attempt to stop him. Police said Kielian fired at deputies at least once. Deputies fired their guns, killing Kielian at the scene. The district attorney reviewed the killing and cleared the deputies. No criminal charges were filed.

Officers responded to a call about an assault in progress around 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found John Pena Montez on the doorstep of the home, trying to get inside. On 03/26/2021, around 6: 10 a.m., Massachusetts State Police responded to a robbery at a 7-Eleven located at 30 Liberty St. in Quincy. Surveillance footage showed a man, identified as Eric Michael Leach, looking through the store's windows before entering six minutes later, allegedly robbing the store with a handgun and escaping with approximately $330. A customer provided a description of Leach to the police. Officers began a search and cornered Leach against a fence in a residential area. Leach reportedly did not comply with police commands, and an attempt to use a Taser was unsuccessful. A foot chase ensued, during which Leach entered a police cruiser, started it, and drove towards officers, who dodged out of the way. He fled, hitting several police vehicles during the pursuit. The chase ended at Burgin Parkway and Route 3 where Leach stopped the cruiser, which was then surrounded by police. After about an hour, Leach managed to move the damaged cruiser but was stopped by stop sticks. During negotiations, Leach was seen with a police patrol rifle and began exiting the vehicle with it, leading to a Massachusetts State Police trooper shooting and killing him.

On March 25, 2021, around 11 a.m., an SUV stopped in the parking lot of the Dahlgren Weigh Station. A woman exited the vehicle and began running away, at which point the driver of the SUV allegedly fired a handgun at her. A Virginia State Police trooper and a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer responded to the scene and engaged the driver, shooting and killing him.

On 03/25/2021, around 11:45 a.m., Prattville police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 82. The driver did not stop, and officers escalated a pursuit that continued between Doster Road Cutoff and Washington Ferry. The driver lost control and crashed. On 03/25/2021, a security guard at a Home Depot store in the Brighton Park neighborhood reported that 18 year old Travon Chadwell was shoplifting. During a physical struggle inside the store, Chadwell shot the security guard, critically injuring him. Chadwell ran from the store. Chicago police officers pursued him, and during the chase one officer was shot. Officers continued the pursuit into the neighborhood. During an exchange of gunfire with police, officers shot and killed Chadwell. The killing was reviewed by investigators, and no criminal charges were filed against the officers.

Around 3 a.m., a person in a vehicle allegedly fired shots at a deputy from the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office. The crash killed 17-year-old Savannah Chandler of Forest Park, Georgia, who was a passenger. Campbell survived, was arrested, and charged with murder and felony attempting to elude. He had outstanding warrants in Georgia at the time.

The incident was investigated by the Stark County Prosecutor's Office, which presented the case to a grand jury. The grand jury declined to indict the officers involved. Approximately six months later, Thomas died from his injuries sustained during the shooting.

On March 24, 2021, U.S. Marshals and Phoenix Police officers responded to a call regarding a man who had fled a Home Depot after allegedly stealing tools. A witness followed the individual, and a collision occurred as the vehicle continued to flee. U.S. Marshals and local officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the man drove erratically and headed westbound on U.S. 60, entering Phoenix. After a brief pursuit, the vehicle stopped near 24th Street and Jefferson Street. When officers attempted to approach, the individual allegedly moved toward them, and officers shot and killed him.

On March 23, 2021, at approximately 5:51 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported that a man was firing a gun in the 100 block of West 29th Street in Anderson, Indiana. Witnesses stated that Irvin Silas Myers pointed a firearm at an officer, who ordered him to drop the weapon. An exchange of gunfire ensued, and Myers was shot and killed by the officer.

On 03/23/2021, a Randolph County sheriff’s deputy responded to a call reporting a man attempting to break into homes in the Jacksonville area. The deputy encountered David Hill. Police said Hill was holding a knife during the encounter. The deputy fired a gun, killing Hill at the scene. The killing was reviewed by investigators, and no criminal charges were filed against the deputy.

Courtney Wright, 30, sped through a red light after a Lake Wales police officer clocked him going 98 mph in a 60 mph zone. The officer activated his lights and siren and attempted to pull Wright over, but he continued driving. As the vehicle approached the intersection of U.S. 27 and Chalet Suzanne Road, Wright began to change lanes, weaving through traffic at high speed. He failed to stop at a red light and crashed his 2010 gray Chevrolet Equinox into a 2003 gray Chevrolet Silverado driven by bystander Raymond Hart, 80, who was killed in the collision.

On March 23, 2021, the Montana Highway Patrol attempted to stop Christopher Eric Cook near Laurel, but he fled along Interstate 90 into Stillwater County. The chase involved U.S. Marshals and the Stillwater County Sheriff's Office. Cook eventually stopped his vehicle around 11 a.m. near mile marker 399, leading to the closure of the westbound lanes. After exiting his vehicle, Cook reportedly walked away, turned towards law enforcement, and brandished a gun. Despite commands to surrender, he was shot and killed by two deputies.

On 03/22/2021, Yavapai County sheriff’s deputies were searching for Edward Kayer in connection with an earlier incident at a restaurant in Sedona where he was suspected of firing multiple rounds before leaving the scene. Sedona police requested assistance after attempting to stop Kayer while he was riding a motorcycle. Kayer continued traveling, abandoned the motorcycle, and ran on foot. Later that night, deputies located Kayer hiding in a field near Antelope Meadows Road and Dogtown Road. During the encounter, police said Kayer fired at deputies. Deputies fired back, killing Kayer at the scene. The killing was reviewed by investigators, and no criminal charges were filed against the deputies.
