Around 2 a.m., Fort Myers Police Department officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots at 2102 Dora Street in Fort Myers, Florida. Upon arrival, they were met with gunfire from an individual who then barricaded himself inside the residence for over 12 hours. At approximately 10 a.m., two people fled the home without injury. Officers deployed less-lethal weapons and gas before breaching the residence. Inside, they discovered a semi-automatic rifle, a handgun, and the individual dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On January 17, 2021, Grant County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Sneed responded to a domestic situation involving a stabbing at a residence in the 3200 block of South Central Avenue in Marion, Indiana. On 01/13/2021, South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated a pedestrian traffic fatality when a vehicle bystander accidentally drove through the collision scene and struck the dead pedestrian, James Jackson, and continued driving. On 01/13/2021, Kern County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence assault. Deputies reported a man left in a vehicle before deputies arrived and deputies later located the vehicle. Deputies reported the man did not follow directions during contact and deputies chased him on foot. Deputies reported they heard a gunshot, found the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he died at the scene. The sheriff’s office later identified him as Diante Nettles, 43.

On January 13, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) troopers and Oklahoma City Police Department officers escalated a chase of a stolen Lincoln Navigator up to 115 mph. The vehicle was driven by 17-year-old Vinnie Hamlet, the twin brother of Chris Hamlet, with Chris and a 17-year-old female passenger. Troopers used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver, directly causing the SUV to flip multiple times and land in a field near Southwest 119th Street and South Meridian Avenue. Vinnie Hamlet was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Chris Hamlet and the female passenger sustained injuries but survived.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol conducted an internal self-investigation. The findings were presented to the District Attorney's Office, which determined that the deadly pursuit was justified.

On 01/12/2021, deputies from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office responded to an incident on Mimosa Lane in Montegut, Louisiana. Officers engaged in a confrontation with Gary Rodriguez Jr., 54, and shot and killed him. Details were not disclosed.

On 01/12/2021 just after midnight, Phoenix police officers attempted a traffic stop near Interstate 10 and Baseline Road. Police said the vehicle did not stop and was later located with assistance from a police helicopter near the Arizona Grand Resort area. Antonio Carbajal exited the vehicle and continued running. Officers caught up with him near Arizona Grand Parkway. Police stated that Carbajal had a handgun and that a physical struggle occurred over the weapon. During the encounter, an officer opened fire, shooting and killing Carbajal. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office later reviewed the case and cleared the officer of criminal wrongdoing.
