On January 29, 2021, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle in North Topeka for a cracked windshield. The driver refused to stop, and police escalated a pursuit. At approximately 55 miles per hour, the trooper executed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the vehicle to lose control and strike a telephone pole. A passenger in the vehicle was killed in the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol reviewed the pursuit and PIT procedure following the fatality.

On January 29, 2021, officers from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a car-jacking at gunpoint near the Pike Lake Super One grocery store in Saginaw, Minnesota where Scott Michael Jordon had allegedly forced a woman and her 16-year-old son from their vehicle. At approximately 2:20 a.m. on January 29, 2021, Valentin Gonzalez De La Cruz, the driver of a GMC Sierra, drove through the gate at the North Charleston Terminal. The South Carolina Port Authority Police Department initiated a chase and collided with the vehicle of Gonzalez De La Cruz, killing him.

Officers then observed smoke emanating from an area near Phillipi Road and Fisher Road. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle overturned and engulfed in flames. Suydam was inside the vehicle, armed with a long-barreled shotgun. As the fire intensified, ammunition inside the vehicle began to explode, preventing officers from safely approaching. Once the fire was extinguished, Suydam was found deceased inside the vehicle.

At approximately 2 a.m. on January 24, 2021, Wichita County Sheriff's deputies observed a silver sedan stopped at an intersection. On 01/22/2021, Indio Police Department officers responded to reports of a man acting erratically near Cardenas Market on Highway 111 in Indio, California. The individual, identified as 41-year-old Jose Albert Lizarraga Garcia, was observed entering and exiting multiple stores, throwing items, and behaving disruptively. Upon contact, Garcia was physically restrained by several officers. During the restraint, Garcia repeatedly stated, "I can't breathe." A mesh spit hood was placed over his head. Deputies from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office responded around 9:45 a.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a man, Steven Verdone, behaving erratically and running in and out of traffic near the Marathon Gas station at 6241 W Cardinal Street in Homosassa, Florida. On January 22, 2021, around 9:06 a.m., deputies from the Racine County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check request for a residence in the Village of Rochester. The chase ended when the driver lost control, crashing into a tree near the 1900 block of Evergreen Drive. The vehicle burst into flames, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 01/21/2021, New York City police officers were stopped at a traffic light in the Wakefield section of the Bronx when they heard a disturbance and calls for help from nearby. Officers exited their vehicle and observed a woman running along the street, followed by David McFarlane, who police said was holding a knife. Officers ordered him to drop the knife. According to police, McFarlane turned toward the officers while still holding the knife, and officers opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was placed under investigation. Reporting later indicated McFarlane had a history of mental health issues, according to family members.

On 01/21/2021, San Jose police shot and killed David Tovar Jr. at an apartment complex on La Pala Drive. Police said officers were attempting to locate Tovar in connection with a homicide and two other shootings in South Santa Clara County. According to authorities, officers encountered Tovar on a second floor landing while they were positioned in a ground level courtyard. Police reported that Tovar was unarmed and that officers believed he was reaching into his waistband when they opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was placed under investigation, and no criminal charges against officers were announced at the time of reporting.

On January 21, 2021, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Grayson County Sheriff's Office deputies Andy Vincent and Jason Luedke responded to a residence at 504 North Main Street in Caneyville, Kentucky, following a tip regarding the whereabouts of 34-year-old Brian Richard Abbott, who was wanted for absconding post-incarceration supervision. Police entered the home and alleged they encountered him with knives. Deputy Vincent fired and struck Abbott three times. Abbott was pronounced dead in his home by the Grayson County Deputy Coroner. The Kentucky State Police investigated the shooting.

On January 21, 2021, the Elkins Police Department attempted to serve a felony warrant on Ty Garrett Hilderbrand, who was suspected of making terroristic threats. After hours of negotiation attempts with no response, officers entered the building and discovered Hilderbrand, the lone occupant, dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
