On 03/26/2026, 36-year-old Jeffrey A. Baker of Buffalo died after jumping into the Erie Canal while running from City of Tonawanda police officers following an attempted traffic stop in North Tonawanda, New York.

At approximately 1:12 a.m., a City of Tonawanda police officer observed a gray Volvo commit a traffic violation near Main and Niagara streets. The vehicle continued across the Renaissance Bridge into North Tonawanda, where police initiated a traffic stop on Webster Street.

On 03/24/2026, Connecticut State Police attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 95. The driver continued driving at a high rate of speed. Police did not initiate a sustained pursuit and ended their involvement. The vehicle continued into New Haven, where it lost control on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and collided head-on with a pickup truck. Ramy Dasan, 21, was killed in the crash. A passenger in the vehicle and the driver of the pickup were transported to a hospital with injuries. Authorities confirmed the crash occurred after the attempted stop and that video evidence showed troopers were not actively pursuing at the time of the collision.

On 03/24/2026, Westminster police went to a residence on South Ashburnham Road to serve an arrest warrant. Police entered the home and made contact with a 22-year-old man. During the encounter, police said the man was holding a large knife and moved toward officers. Police opened fire, striking him. He was transported to a hospital, where he died. The man was later identified as Zachary Beaudet, 22. His mother later identified him publicly and questioned the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are leading the investigation.
