On 03/27/2022, Ronald Wayne McMunn was fatally injured when his Dodge Challenger crashed into a building and caught fire during a pursuit by the Sperry Police Department in Sperry, Oklahoma.

On 03/17/2022, 40-year-old Jeremy Arthur Lettow of Salt Lake City was killed when the stolen Chrysler 200 he was driving crashed into a utility pole while Taylorsville police were attempting to stop and apprehend him.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on March 16, a Taylorsville police officer spotted the Chrysler near 4200 South and Redwood Road. Before attempting the stop, police positioned additional officers and requested assistance from a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter.

When police attempted to stop the Chrysler, Lettow drove away. Officers did not conduct a conventional ground pursuit; instead, the DPS helicopter maintained aerial surveillance while officers positioned themselves ahead of the vehicle.

Near 4100 South and 1300 West, a Taylorsville officer deployed spike strips and punctured some of the Chrysler's tires. Police subsequently deployed a second set of spike strips. The vehicle continued through residential streets at a reduced speed.

At approximately 12:10 a.m. on March 17, Lettow was traveling north on Atherton Drive near 1200 West when he failed to negotiate a turn and crashed into a utility pole. On 03/17/2022, Knoxville Police Department officers attempted to stop Bryan Michael Hurst near Interstate 40 and James White Parkway. Hurst continued driving and officers escalated a pursuit. On 03/15/2022, 24-year-old Ryan Gentry Pitts of East Peoria was killed while riding as a passenger in a utility terrain vehicle driven by 25-year-old Kenneth Brinkley of Spring Bay during a police-related flight and crash in Woodford County, Illinois.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight. Illinois State Police subsequently reported that the UTV struck a Woodford County Sheriff's Office squad car near Santa Fe Trail and Spring Bay Road. The UTV then left the scene with Pitts riding as a passenger.

Gibson was on patrol when he received a dispatch concerning a stolen Nissan truck. According to his later deposition testimony, the dispatch was a "signal 10," indicating automobile theft.
