On 05/28/2022, Orlando Police Department officers were responding near the Mall at Millenia after Sebastian Sepulveda Roman, 19, was asked to leave a store and became involved in a confrontation. Police said Roman produced a handgun and fired on an officer. An off-duty officer initially did not fire because of bystander safety; backup arrived and engaged him near the Olive Garden at 4101 Conroy Road. Officers and Roman exchanged gunfire, and Roman was shot and died at the scene. Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the shooting, and ballistics were used to determine which shots were fired by whom.

On 05/25/2022, Florida Highway Patrol troopers pursued a vehicle on US-129 near Jasper after attempting a traffic stop. Troopers reported the driver failed to stop and accelerated. During the pursuit, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities opened a review of the pursuit and crash.

Lowndes county deputies chased a vehicle for unknown reasons from Georgia across the Florida border where it crashed into another vehicle. Several vehicles, including a sheriff’s office vehicle was involved. The vehicle that had been chased had seven passengers, most of whom were children. And 11-year-old girl was killed in the crash. It is unknown why police chased this vehicle.

Police in an unmarked vehicle attempted to pull over Carlos Roberts Jr. for a traffic violation but he allegedly did not comply and fled. Officers allege that he immediately stepped from his vehicle and fired a weapon at them. He at the time may have believed he was being attacked by a civilian as the officer and vehicle were both unmarked while chasing him. A total of 43 shots were fired. Police shot and killed him. His family questions the police narrative and asked anyone who may be an eyewitness to step forward.

Carrollwood police and Pinellas deputies went to a residence on Lake Ellen Circle in Carrollwood to try to arrest someone for a previous armed robbery. Two people were found and detained by police including the man they were looking for. Police went inside of the home to search it room by room and claim that they found a third person with a gun. On 05/08/2022, around midnight, a Collier County Sheriff's deputy was driving north on Santa Barbara Boulevard near Hunter Boulevard in Naples, Florida. The deputy's vehicle struck 19-year-old Jacob Moreno, who was on foot. Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

On 04/28/2022, Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to the 12000 block of Waterfront Road in Tallahassee after receiving reports of a suicidal individual. Deputies established a perimeter around the residence and initiated negotiations. The situation escalated into a prolonged standoff. Deputies deployed additional resources including specialized units and continued attempts to communicate with Terri Bennett. During the standoff, Bennett shot herself. Deputies then entered the residence and confirmed her death. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted the independent review.

Clay County deputies and Orange Park officers jointly responded to a family disturbance at a home in Orange Park. The man fled from police who chased him aggressively, attacked him with a PIT maneuver near a Wawa station. Police shot out the passenger window of the vehicle and killed the man. Dispatchers received reports that a woman had fired shots inside the home during a dispute. Deputies entered the residence and encountered Julie Demers. According to the sheriff’s office, Demers was armed during the confrontation. Deputies opened fire and shot her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement initiated an independent investigation into the shooting.

On 03/17/2022, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop Tyler Phillips near FL-82 and Gunnery Road South in Lehigh Acres. Phillips continued driving and deputies escalated a pursuit. Deputies chased the vehicle along FL-82 before Phillips lost control and crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol assumed responsibility for investigating the crash.

On 03/02/2022, Pinellas Park Police Department officers responded to the area of 4540 76th Avenue North after a 911 hang up call and reports of gunfire and screaming. Officers reported a shot was fired from inside an apartment and struck a vehicle parked outside. Officers evacuated nearby residents and established a perimeter. Police reported Lee Michael Thrall held three hostages inside the apartment, including two juvenile girls and one adult woman. Officers negotiated for several hours. The two children were released around noon and the adult woman was released later that afternoon. Officers later forced entry into the apartment and located Thrall deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
