On December 21, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., deputies at the Cobb County Jail in Marietta, Georgia, discovered 39-year-old inmate Clara Palmer unresponsive in her cell. She was transported to WellstarKennestone Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m. Palmer had been incarcerated since December 11, 2024, following her arrest by Marietta police on charges including charges of weapons, methamphetamine, stolen property.

On 12/09/2024, a fatal vehicle crash occurred in Rome, Georgia, involving a responding police officer and 66-year-old Tammie Pickelsimer. The crash happened at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Cedartown Highway as officers raced to a reported bomb threat at the residence of U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The Rome Police Department received an email threatening that a pipe bomb had been placed in Rep. Greene’s mailbox. The email included specific details about the alleged device, describing it as "a 1×8 inch threaded galvanized pipe, end caps, a kitchen timer, some wires, metal clips and homemade black powder." The sender expressed satisfaction at the prospect of harm coming to law enforcement or Rep. Greene, concluding with the phrase "VIVA VIVA PALESTINA." which according to police was "traced to a "Russian IP address", referenced Palestine and led to a high-priority response, including a bomb squad dispatched to Greene’s residence. IP addresses are easy to change and the email appears to have been a hoax.

During the response, an officer driving his personal vehicle crashed into Ms. Pickelsimer's car. Emergency responders pronounced Ms. Pickelsimer dead at the scene. The officer sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The bomb squad later confirmed that there was no active threat at Rep. Greene’s residence. This incident marks one of several threats and swatting calls targeting Rep. Greene, who reported at least nine such incidents.

On 12/05/2024, at approximately 1:05 a.m., a Greyhound bus traveling south on Interstate 75 near Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia, made an unscheduled stop after a passenger, identified as 39-year-old Robert McVay from Maryland, allegedly stabbed another passenger, causing a non-life-threatening injury.
McVay exited the bus on foot and fled across the interstate. Officers pursued him and issued commands for him to stop, which he ignored. Police fired tasers, stun guns, and pepper spray at him. During these actions, he allegedly turned toward officers with a knife in hand. Five officers opened fire, striking him.
He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On November 26, 2024, at approximately 8:12 p.m., Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers observed a black 2015 Infiniti Q50 traveling northbound in Catoosa County at 114 mph in a 70 mph zone. Troopers attempted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Hugo Julian Urbano Chavez of Dalton, Georgia, did not stop. Troopers escalated a chase to unknown speeds. As Chavez approached Exit 348, he attempted to pass vehicles on the left shoulder, lost control, crossed all northbound lanes, struck a guardrail, and overturned. Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene.

On November 22, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the Floyd County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office to serve arrest warrants on 52-year-old Charles H. Woodall. The warrants included charges of entering auto, rape, and incest. Authorities determined that Woodall was staying at a residence off Ficklen Church Way near Canton, Georgia.

Just after 11:00 p.m., deputies from both sheriff's offices approached the residence to serve the warrants. Woodall was armed and pointed a gun at the deputies. On November 13, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., a Coweta County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a Chrysler 300 for a registration violation on Highway 29 near Tommy Lee Cook Road. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Jason Andre Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia, failed to stop, initiating a high-speed pursuit reaching speeds up to 110 mph. The chase continued into Fulton County, where deputies executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on Roosevelt Highway, disabling Wilson’s vehicle.

On October 30, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Conyers Police Department officers responded to a 911 call from a clerk at the Chevron gas station located at 1135 Sigman Road. The clerk reported that a patron, identified as 40-year-old Jesse Roach of Carrollton, Georgia, had threatened him with a gun.

Upon their arrival, Crow locked himself inside a residence. Police initiated a standoff that lasted several hours. During this time, law enforcement deployed standard SWAT tactics, including the use of flashbangs and tear gas, in an effort to compel Crowe to surrender. After several hours of SWAT pressure, Crowe was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when officers eventually entered the premises.

On August 22, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) trooper observed Kevin James Kennedy operating a blue four-wheeler on State Road 33 near Lanier Road in Moultrie, Georgia. The trooper, aware of recent thefts and burglaries involving a similar vehicle, initiated a traffic stop. Kennedy failed to comply. The trooper chased him through fields, ditches and back onto the highway. During the chase, the patrol vehicle collided with Kennedy, causing his four-wheeler to overturn. He then tried to run on foot. The trooper deployed a K9 unit that mauled his neck severely. The trooper handcuffed Kennedy and immediately requested medical assistance upon noticing the severity of the K9 bite. Emergency Medical Services arrived, and Kennedy was transported to a hospital in Macon. He died from his injuries on August 27, 2024. His family attributes his death to only the blood loss and severe neck injury from the dog mauling. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an inquiry into the death.

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Wesley Mill Drive in Adairsville, Georgia. Chris Cochran, 60, had allegedly made death threats against his wife and a crisis intervention team that was present to assist. Cochran's wife and the intervention team sought refuge in a neighbor's home across the street, where deputies provided protection. Cochran, known to possess a significant number of rifles, retreated into his residence, began breaking windows, and issued further threats to kill those outside.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office deployed its SWAT team to safely extract the deputies, Cochran's wife, and other civilians, and to apprehend Cochran. During the standoff, Cochran pointed a long gun out of a second-story window and repeatedly threatened SWAT officers, deputies, and witnesses. A SWAT officer discharged their weapon, striking Cochran, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bartow County Coroner's Office. No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Paulding County Sheriff's Office deputies, including 30-year-old Deputy Brandon Cunningham, responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Foggy Creek Lane in Hiram, Georgia. James Samuel Atkins, 42, ambushed the responding deputies, fatally shooting Deputy Cunningham.

The pursuing officer did not follow Dunbar into the wrong lanes. Approximately one mile later, near Etterlee Road, the Mercury Sable collided head-on with a southbound truck. The impact caused the Sable to catch fire, engulfing the vehicle in flames. All three occupants—Dunbar and his passengers, 15-year-old Barry Fields Jr. and 13-year-old Casey Fields—were pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the truck sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital; their conditions have not been disclosed.
