Deputy constables were called to a home around 11 a.m. for a welfare check, potentially related to a CPS referral about a 16-year-old girl. As deputies attempted to remove the girl from the home, a man inside began shooting at them. The man barricaded himself with the teen and one deputy constable. Eventually, the deputy and the girl were able to leave the house. The man fled, carjacked a nearby driver, and a pursuit and gunfight ensued. Border Patrol agents tracked a group of migrants for several hours, eventually apprehending seven individuals, including a man from El Salvador. After being handcuffed to two other migrants, the man became unruly, leading agents to separate him. He attempted to escape but was quickly apprehended again. After a pursuit, deputies used OnStar to slow the vehicle down, and it stopped near the FM2438 exit. Christopher Robinson allegedly opened fire on the officers, who responded by shooting and killing him.

On August 9, 2021, U.S. Border Patrol agents tracked a group of migrants near Eagle Pass, Texas, for approximately nine hours. Officers later located Eduardo Mendez Amezquita at 322 Noria, where he had forced his way into an occupied home and threatened to kill the occupants while physically assaulting one of them. Negotiators spent four hours attempting to communicate with Amezquita, who threatened to burn down the house. At approximately 3 p.m., Amezquita exited the home, armed with a pistol, and was shot and killed by five officers around 3:17 p.m.

At about 9 p.m., Pantego Police attempted to pull over a vehicle for a minor violation, but the driver fled. The officer terminated the chase, but the pursued vehicle continued, running several red lights and speeding over 100 mph. The car slammed into Douglas Osiemo's vehicle at the intersection of West Arkansas and Cooper Street, pushing his car under a box truck. Osiemo was killed, and the driver of the pursued vehicle fled on foot. Osiemo was working for a food delivery service at the time.

He then retreated into the apartment, where he barricaded himself. Nunez eventually exited the apartment on his own. His girlfriend, Virginia Lillian Lillard, 39, was also found dead inside the apartment.
