On 12/10/2021, Bowie County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suicidal man at 6588 FM 44 in Simms, Texas. Upon arrival, they encountered 59-year-old Mark Robert Peters, who was armed and reportedly threatening self-harm. During the ensuing standoff, Peters allegedly pointed his firearm at the deputies, prompting one deputy to discharge his weapon, striking Peters. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

On December 7, 2021, Fort Worth police officers responded to a 911 call from 29-year-old Mitchell Robert Davis, who reported feeling possessed and expressed fear of harming others. Upon arrival near his residence at 10442 Bear Creek Trail, officers encountered Davis, who was armed with an Airsoft gun. Davis reportedly pointed the replica at the officers. They opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis had a history of mental health struggles.
