On August 24, 2023, the decedent was sitting in his parked car in rural Susquehanna County at Lewis Lake. He had recently moved back from Florida to a childhood home near the lake where his family owned land and was visiting the area. A Pennsylvania State Police trooper arrived and according to his messages to family, the trooper harassed him, possibly for a second time within several days.
On 08/24/2023, the man was in his car by the lake when he was again approached by what is believed to be the same local trooper. He was able to respond, answered the trooper's questions that yes, he had legal guns packed and locked away in the back of the vehicle when asked about guns. He was moving back to PA and had his belongings with him and answered truthfully that everything including guns were stowed away in the car. He was able to text message this information to his family during the stop.
It is unknown what happened to escalate things but the trooper after an argument fired 10 bullets in his face, killing him.
PSP claims that they do not have any BWC footage. They refuse to disclose the name of the shooter trooper but expect the family to believe the undocumented narrative that he had made a threatening move during the traffic stop that required this point blank execution. The family is unable to get any more information nor his belongings back to date while PSP are investigating themselves. THe man's identity is known and withheld per the family's request.

On August 24, 2023, at approximately 10:40 PM, Columbus Police officers responded to a report of a man violating a protection order in the 1100 block of Rendezvous Lane. Officers attempted a traffic stop and claimed that Jamie David Overstreet, 36, did not stop. Police escalated the situation into a high-speed chase that continued for approximately five miles.

As a result of the pursuit, Overstreet’s vehicle collided with another car at Parsons Avenue and Corr Road. A Columbus Police helicopter was deployed to assist in tracking Overstreet’s movements. The pursuit concluded in the 1300 block of Marion Drive North, where Overstreet exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers alleged that Overstreet displayed a firearm during the foot chase, and an officer opened fire, discharging five rounds and striking Overstreet once in the back. Overstreet was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:42 PM.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted an inquiry into the shooting. In September 2023, a Franklin County grand jury declined to indict the officers involved. Overstreet’s estranged wife later filed a federal civil lawsuit, alleging the use of deadly force was unjustified and claiming a lack of transparency regarding the incident. A federal court recently ordered the release of the officers’ names, despite the city citing Marsy’s Law to withhold their identities.

A resident of an apartment complex on North Shore Drive in Jeffersonville called the police for a welfare check on another resident, 65-year-old Richard D. Glass. Glass had allegedly made concerning statements about going back to prison before walking into his apartment. Then, 911 received another call, this time from Glass. He claimed that someone was trying to hack his phone and wanted officers to help. Jeffersonville police and EMS, but Glass would not open the door. When dispatchers reached Glass on the phone, he said he did not think the people in the hallway were police and repeated statements about having a gun. Police then saw Glass through a window with at least two firearms. Shots were heard in the apartment. Glass was shooting at police amassing outside of his window. SWAT shot and killed him through the window.
