Trinidad PD had gone to a home in the 1400 block of San Juan Street at exactly midnight to arrest a wanted person. Police heard voices in the trailer in the driveway of the property, knocked on the door and spoke with a woman. She said that there was no one else in the trailer. Police allege she became more and more uncooperative and was eventually detained. Officers then heard several gunshots from the trailer and took cover. Police shot and killed a man. Police converged on the UHaul and travel trailer until a woman came to the door and told police the man had left with the U-Haul truck two hours prior. SWAT approached the trailer at about 7:20 p.m., fired a flashbang device, broke a window of the trailer, and used a pole camera to see inside. On 03/20/2023, Officer Bustin Buzzella pursued motorist Ryan Griffin from Main Street in Dalton onto Robinson Road in Hinsdale. Sgt. Buzzarella claimed that he was chasing him because he felt Griffin may be impaired because the officer allegedly saw a stop sign violation, came to the conclusion to hunt the driver for possible DUI. Griffin was known to have a suspended license and this may have been the reason he fled when Buzzarella escalated a chase that ended when griffin hit a tree at high speed and died.
Sergeant Bustin Buzzarella had previously endangered drivers with reckless speeding and months before this death had been warned that any more incidents would lead to his termination. At the time Sgt. Buzzarella hunted Ryan Griffin to death, it had been his third unpermitted reckless high-speed chase in a span of several months. It was noted that he escalated the hunt on Griffin during very rainy dangerous conditions for a stop sign violation.
“I find that, by choosing to continue the pursuit after the operator increased his speed on wet and windy roads, Sgt. Buzzella created an avoidable risk of harm to the public. Based on these circumstances, there was no justification to commence a high-speed pursuit”, said police chief Deanna Strout.
Chief Strout also said that investigation showed that he had misstated facts and mischaracterized Griffin’s actions and “falsely reported the improper actions of this vehicle to justify pursuing it.”
Chief Strout terminated Sgt. Buzzarella after causing Griffin’s avoidable death, speaking out against his reckless driving and also falsification of records, apparently to cover it. Buzzarella filed a long-term disability claim against the city and is on disability pay, possibly to circumvent the firing by the unusually outspoken police chief. Buzzella has also been placed on the Brady List for the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, meaning he should not be called for witness testimony without prior approval.

Madison County deputies went to the Motel 6 at 2205 E. 59th Street around 10:30 a.m. to serve the warrants for Brooke Badger and Jon Niccum. Badger opened the door. Niccum could be heard saying, "What's the problem?" The officer had misrepresented himself as “front desk” initially then demanded Niccum show his hands as the officer shone his flashlight in Niccum's face.Niccum pulled a gun and fired a shot at police. Anderson PD SWAT arrived and found Niccum in the bathroom. Police claim he was deceased "from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound." Surry County deputies executed a search warrant in Elkin at 258 West Highland Avenue with assistance by Elkin Police Department, Pilot Mountain Police Department, and the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office involving narcotics. Law enforcement used a taser to subdue Quintonio Willis and were able to recover an amount of narcotics that Wilis swallowed. Twenty-three minutes later, according to the press release, Willis entered some form of medical distress that was noticed by law enforcement on scene. He died of a drug overdose. On May 15, 2023, a Richmond deputy attempted to traffic-stop a vehicle on U.S. 220 but the vehicle refused to stop and sped away. The deputy stayed behind the vehicle and backed off and turned his emergency equipment off. Police allege that he had stopped the pursuit and given up. The driver of the vehicle turned the 4-way flashers on and began slowing down. The deputy followed behind at a distance to see what the issue was but was allegedly not chasing. The abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.Other deputies and officers with the Rockingham PDswarmed the area and used a K-9 from Rockingham PD and soon saw a man on Walnut Ln. The man began running and police allege that he produced a gun. Police allege that the man then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide under police duress.
