At about 10 p.m. Wednesday, the FBI violent crime task force was conducting an operation in north Houston involving drug charges when say a man got into an SUV and took off. The FBI escalated a chase that started on the North Freeway near Richey Road. Police were heard on the radio discussing that the driver shot at them and they placed spike strips that caused a crash in the 4500 block of North Shepherd in Independence Heights. Police heard a gunshot and found a man dead. He is believed to have committed suicide under police duress.

An eyewitness says she saw a truck hit another truck and then drive off at 280 between Groover Hill and Olive Branch in Bryan County for hours Thursday night when the driver fled after the accident. Police chased the vehicle and driver Herman stopped the car after a short pursuit. Thedeputy approached Herman’s door and spoke with him before attempting to place handcuffs on him. Herman sped off while the officer was still reaching inside the car and he was dragged about one-tenth of a mile where the car then hit a road sign and began to travel off the roadway down a steep embankment. The officer fired his weapon. Herman died.
