On the evening of August 7, 2024, Sumter County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1100 block of South Georgia Tech Parkway in Americus, Georgia. The 911 call reported that 45-year-old Jamie Lynn Still was intoxicated, acting erratically, and armed with a rifle. The caller, along with three children, was locked inside the home and indicated that Still had been physically violent.

Deputies evacuated the woman and three children through a window. After ensuring the safety of the occupants, deputies entered the home and found Still lying on the floor. Port Jervis PD attempted to traffic stop a motorcycle driven by Wade C. Conklin, Jr. that was allegedly speeding. The motorcycle did not stop. Dennis Thornton was allegedly intoxicated and throwing things from an overpass. Police arrived, shot him with a taser. Police claim he “resisted” and an unknown number of officers allegedly restrained him in a “wrap.” It is unclear whether this is a BOLO wrap or what type but some type of tying or hog-tying device was applied. He died during arrest. Police blamed his death on intoxication and the fact that he had walked for a long distance on the highway prior to police assault. Snare wraps, tasers and violent arrests are known to kill people commonly. It is unknown what role walking for miles or intoxication had to do with his apparently physically violent death in police custody. Police claim that his body temperature upon death was 108 degrees. Tasers and certain drugs can enhance this scenario but one must consider the apparently considerable physical violence as police and taser as well as police are presenting “excited delirium”, intoxication and heat exposure as cause of death of a man who was subjected to taser electrocution and a violent arrest just prior to death. Excited delirium is not considered to be a valid medical diagnosis by the medical community but this bogus diagnosis is commonly used by police to blame deaths in police custody on.

Approximately an hour later, officers encountered 47-year-old Aaron Matthew Shindle, Bash's former caregiver, near Stonecreek South and West Yale Loop. Shindle was armed with a knife and, despite commands to drop the weapon, advanced toward an officer, prompting the officer to discharge his firearm. Shindle was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. A knife was recovered at the scene.

Baltimore police followed a juvenile on N. Gilmore Rd. and tried to pedestrian stop him. William Gardner instead ran away. Officer claim that he “displayed” a gun. Multiple police officers shot and killed him.

Greensboro PD spotted a vehicle they wanted to stop due to a previous incident and began to chase. Police state that they used containment method that caused the vehicle to crash into a police car. This may be a Grappler. The vehicle fled and crashed again, killing the driver.

On August 4, 2024, Irondale police responded to reports of a man running into traffic on Highway 78. Officers tasered and restrained Phillip Reeder. During the restraint, officers held him face down on the pavement. According to attorneys for the family, body-camera footage shows an officer kneeling on Reeder’s neck for over three minutes while he said “I can’t breathe” at least three times. Reeder died at the scene. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, citing hypertensive heart disease, cocaine use, and physical stress during the incident. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency investigated and the Jefferson County District Attorney declined to press charges. The officers involved have not been named.

Reeder’s family has demanded the release of full body-camera footage and the names of the officers involved. They allege excessive force and say Reeder was suffering a mental health crisis when killed. Attorneys for the family said the video contradicts the police narrative and shows a prolonged neck restraint. They are pursuing legal action and are calling for public accountability and transparency.

Weber County deputies to a mental health crisis in which a man was allegedly intoxicated and holding two children hostage. Police alleged that when they arrived, he held an edged weapon, not otherwise specified. They shot and killed him, apparently in front of the children.
