Upon arrival, officers discovered the apartment manager deceased from gunshot wounds. Resident David Falcon, 66, was later found locked inside an apartment unit. Police deployed drones and established a standoff.

During the standoff, Falcon reportedly committed suicide. Reports indicate that the dispute stemmed from Falcon’s allegations that the apartment manager had unlawfully entered his apartment and physically harmed his cat, leading to extensive veterinary care. On 02/01/2024, 31-year-old Melvin Kenneth Jay Jr. was killed during an encounter with Officer Braxton Shelton of the Prince George County Police Department at the Windham Creek Apartments in Suitland, Maryland. Officers were investigating a reported burglary when they confronted Jay.

Police claim he pointed a gun or fired a shot at an officer also. Police shot and killed him through the window of his home while he was inside. On 02/01/2024, the Arroyo Grande Police Department responded to reports of gunshots at the senior center located at 241 N. Courtland Street in Arroyo Grande, California. Upon arrival, officers discovered the apartment manager deceased from gunshot wounds. Resident David Falcon, 66, was later found locked inside an apartment unit. Police deployed drones and established a standoff.

During the standoff, Falcon reportedly died from suicide. Reports indicate that the dispute stemmed from Falcon’s allegations that the apartment manager had unlawfully entered his apartment and physically harmed his cat, leading to extensive veterinary care. Falcon is alleged to have shot the manager following this confrontation. Miller had been in the US on a work visa from Jamaica. He was the line cook at the Palisades Tahoe. Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and Falcon’s death are ongoing and are being conducted by the Arroyo Grande Police Department and independent oversight agencies.

On January 26, 2024, Kingman Police attempted to pull over a vehicle that did not stop, prompting a police chase. The chase ended when the fleeing vehicle collided with the car driven by Sarah Bingham, a 21-year-old delivery driver, killing her. The individual in the pursued vehicle, 44-year-old Juan Javier Ortiz, had earlier attempted to evade law enforcement during a confrontation with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). He was charged with multiple felony offenses, including first-degree murder. Despite a trooper-involved shooting, Ortiz managed to escape until the crash that led to Bingham's death. No officers were injured in the incident​

On 01/25/2024, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, including SWAT units, responded to an eviction call in Union City, California. The operation escalated when a deputy was shot and sustained minor injuries; however, it is currently unknown how the deputy was injured. SWAT units arrived, evacuated nearby homes, and escalated a standoff that lasted approximately six hours.

During the standoff, SWAT officers utilized drones and deployed tear gas into the residence. When the standoff concluded, two individuals, including 54-year-old Lizzette Chan, were found dead from apparent suicides. The deaths occurred during the standoff under police duress.

Brandan Shae Maroney was experiencing a mental health crisis and was walking in traffic. Police approached him and fired a taser at him and claim he held a knife. They shot and killed him. He died from multiple bullets. His death was ruled a homicide. No officers were charged.
