On June 14, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Minnesota State Patrol troopers initiated a pursuit of a motorcycle operated by 24-year-old Dante Anthony Bjorklund on Minneapolis highways. The pursuit was terminated when Bjorklund exited the highway and entered residential streets in south Minneapolis. A State Patrol helicopter maintained visual contact with the motorcycle. Subsequently, Bjorklund collided with a stationary State Patrol squad car, which had its emergency lights activated, at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and 51st Street East. Bjorklund sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. He died from his injuries approximately a week later.

On June 11, 2024, Damion Laddal Jones, 31, of Easley, South Carolina, was killed by Opelika PD near Interstate 85 in Opelika, Alabama. Officers with the Opelika Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler and a passenger car around 2:35 PM. During their response, Jones allegedly confronted officers while armed with a knife. Police further allege that he advanced on them despite verbal commands.
