On June 1, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Madison County Sheriff’s deputies, including Deputy Mason Brisendine, attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 44-year-old Lataurus Harrison in the 1600 block of Fairview Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. Harrison was located in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle.

Harrison reportedly reached into his pocket. Deputy Brisendine opened fire, striking Harrison. A firearm was later discovered on the front passenger seat. There is no evidence to suggest that any weapons were in his pocket. Brisendine fired fatal shots for allegedly a hand motion toward Harrison’s pockets.

On June 1, 2024, off-duty Waterloo Police Officer Keaton Northup was driving his motorcycle with 28-year-old Jenna Mills as a passenger. Holly Hill PD were called to a man having a mental health crisis and threatening others with a steak knife. The man, initially only identified as "Michael" allegedly had a long history of schizophrenia and needed mental health help. When police arrived, he was seen running, still holding his steak knife. he was shot and killed within seconds of police arriving.

On 05/28/2024, the Bradenton Police Department responded to reports of a woman in mental health crisis threatening to kill herself at a residence in the 4400 block of Ironwood Circle. Officers arrived on the scene and reportedly secured the building before attempting to make contact with the woman. During the incident, several gunshots were heard. Upon entry, officers found that the woman had died from suicide by gunshot. The police response, including their actions to secure the area and engage with the woman, remains under review.
