Officers with the Pearl Police Department said they tried to pull over a 20-year-old for speeding on the interstate, but he did not stop and officers chased him until he crashed his car into a mail truck driven by Brad Pennington, 32, who was seriously injured when he tried to escape the vehicle as it tipped over. A witness said he tried to jump out of the truck and hit his head on the concrete and died later. Police were reportedly outside of their jurisdiction with this chase.

A KSP trooper attempted a traffic stop in Hardin County on a KIA Soul near Joe Prather Parkway near I-65 but the vehicle didn't stop. Police escalated a chase reaching 100 mph when the driver made a U-turn, continuing northbound on US 31-W before running a red light near the intersection of US 31-W and Gateway Crossing Boulevard. Police said the driver then struck three vehicles in the intersection, becoming disabled and catching fire in the southbound lanes. The driver died. The condition of the people in the 3 vehicles that were hit is unknown.

Roanoke Police received a report of a potentially suicidal man with a firearm in the 4600 block of Long Acre Drive NE having left the area by car. Police knew that the man had an active felony warrant in another jurisdiction and the description of the vehicle was aired via APB to all Patrol Units.
An officer found the car in the area of Orange Avenue and Williamson Road NE and he began to follow the vehicle and also saw that there was a passenger in the car. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the pursuit continued out of the City of Roanoke
Patrol units deployed pursuit stop sticks but the driver continued fleeing. The driver finally lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the 3100 block of Read Mountain Road in Botetourt County. The driver committed suicide under police duress.
