Police chief Rick Williams and officer John Wall arrived at the address and allege that Ellison shot at them and officers returned fire, killing him.
Of note, the events took place in his backyard of a home he had owned for 17 years. He was reportedly sitting under a tree with a gun. Neighbors report that different caliber guns were heard going off including rifles, that police with rifles were running across the yard and Ellison was killed in his backyard. There is no indication whether police investigated or approached him before opening fire.
Police chief Rick Williams was briefly checked in overnight at the local hospital for unspecified injuries and promptly released. He did not elaborate further what had gone wrong and why he personally had taken the “suspicious person” call and been one of the shooters. Of note, Bradley Ellison had prior encounters with the same small PD.

A Lafayette PD officer tried to stop a car they felt was stolen. Police allege the driver pulled into a parking lot and fled on foot. Police and a K9 chased him until he jumped from a structure and fell to the ground. Officers attempted to taser him and tasered the K9 dog instead with the dog backing away, apparently unwilling to attack after being shocked. Police allege the man they had hunted down produced a gun and shot him to death.
The victim’s mother, Tonya Coates, demanded transparency from law enforcement in her son Tyron Coates's death and demanded evidence of a gun. Police stated there had been a gun but did not provide bodycam or other evidence.

Fort Knox PD responded to a call of a suspicious person near the post's visitor center. It is unknown how they approached him but Atkins fled from police onto the Fort Knox military base while being chased by 3 patrol cars. A standoff ensued and Atkins allegedly tried to escape the situation, “attempted to ram” police cars and was shot dead. No video or third party verification of this official police story is possible and no footage can be found.
