US-30 was closed between mileposts 172.6 and 177.4, with traffic diverted via River Road, before reopening later that day.

On 08/19/2025, deputies with the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire after a homeowner confronted a man trying to steal a four-wheeler near 1100 East and 1300 North, east of Shelley. On June 29, 2025, 20-year-old Wess Val Roley deliberately set a brush fire on Canfield Mountain in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, intending to ambush first responders. When firefighters arrived and asked him to move his vehicle, he opened fire, killing two battalion chiefs — Frank Harwood (42) and John Morrison (52) — and critically injuring firefighter David Tysdal. A massive multi-agency manhunt involving over 300 officers, SWAT, FBI, and ATF units ensued. Authorities tracked Roley using cellphone signals, ultimately finding him dead near a firearm later that day in what was reported as a suicide. On 06/15/2025 at approximately 2:12 a.m., Owyhee County deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 28000 block of Hyde Street in Bruneau. Deputy John Smith encountered a man who was suffering a mental health crisis and had a rifle. The man allegedly moved toward the deputy. Deputy Smith shot and killed him in the street. No officers were Injured. The Idaho Critical Incident Task Force and Canyon County Sheriff are investigating. Deputy Smith has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome.

On 09/01/2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Bonneville County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop Joshua Ramirez, 31, after Ramirez's vehicle nearly collided head-on with the deputy's patrol car on Woodruff Avenue in Idaho Falls. Deputies and Idaho Falls Police officers jointly escalated a high-speed pursuit. Police executed a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing Ramirez's car to stop near the 1400 block of North Woodruff Avenue.

Police alleged that Ramirez made erratic movements, including pointing his fingers in a "shooter’s stance" toward deputies and attempting to restart the vehicle. A deputy fired nine shots, striking Ramirez multiple times. Ramirez was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m.

A subsequent search of Ramirez's vehicle revealed a small folding knife with the blade in the open position on the floor just in front of and to the left side of the driver’s seat. He was unarmed during the encounter. On 07/28/2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Coeur d'Alene Police Department officers responded to reports of gunshots near the intersection of 9th Street and Spokane Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man with a rifle slung across his back standing outside a residence. The individual ignored police commands and retreated into the house. Police activated the SWAT team. As officers established a perimeter and attempted negotiations, they observed the house catching fire and heard additional gunshots from within. The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, detectives entered the residence and discovered one deceased individual inside. On 04/20/2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Ada County Sheriff's Deputy Tobin Bolter conducted a traffic stop near W. Overland Road and S. Raymond Street in Boise. As Deputy Bolter approached the vehicle, the driver, identified as 65-year-old Dennis Mulqueen, shot him through the driver's side window. Mulqueen then fled the scene. Responding officers located Mulqueen's abandoned vehicle near S. Dorian Street and W. Roosevelt Street. A perimeter was established, and after an hour of failed negotiations, the Boise Police Department's Special Operations Unit advanced on Mulqueen's position. Mulqueen fired at the officers, striking a tactical shield. Detective Josh Sontag returned fire, hitting Mulqueen twice. Mulqueen was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Bonner County Prosecuting Attorney reviewed the incident and determined that Detective Sontag's use of deadly force was justified under Idaho law.

On 03/02/2024, federal agents from the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs pursued 39-year-old Cody Allen Whiterock from the Duck Valley Reservation in Nevada into Idaho. The pursuit ended near milepost 15 on Idaho Route 51 in Riddle, where Whiterock exited his vehicle and fled on foot. During the foot chase, agents discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Whiterock. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:38 p.m. The Owyhee County Sheriff's Department requested the Idaho State Police to investigate the shooting. Court records indicated that Whiterock had an outstanding warrant for a December incident involving felony eluding and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers. On 02/20/2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m., law enforcement agencies from Idaho and Nevada coordinated to apprehend 25-year-old Anthony Erasmo Madrid Jr., believed to be involved in multiple shootings in Caldwell and Nampa, Idaho. Madrid fled south on U.S. Route 95 into Humboldt County, Nevada. Nevada State Police deployed spike strips near mile marker 53, deflating the driver's side tires of Madrid's vehicle. Despite the damage, Madrid continued for three miles before veering off the highway. Officers approached the stationary vehicle and found Madrid in the driver's seat with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Renown Trauma Center in Reno, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:00 a.m. on 02/21/2024. The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy.

On 02/11/2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Ada County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of shots fired near the 10000 block of West Seneca Drive in Boise. A resident reported hearing a loud bang and, upon investigating, observed 23-year-old Dominic Nathan Soto discharging a firearm near an irrigation canal. Deputies arrived to find Soto holding a handgun to his head and walking toward a group of deputies positioned on South Five Mile Road.

Deputy Colton McKone left his cover to confront Soto directly. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, Soto ignored the orders and allegedly swayed, causing the deputies to believe he was pointing the firearm at them. Deputy McKone discharged his service weapon three times. Simultaneously, Soto fired a shot to his own head. Soto was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Ada County Coroner's Office ruled the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head, with the manner of death determined to be suicide. The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force conducted an investigation, and the Gem County Prosecuting Attorney concluded that Deputy McKone's actions were justified under Idaho law.

On 01/24/2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., an Ada County Sheriff's deputy on patrol observed 37-year-old Jeremiah Gaver covered in a tarp and holding a cane, peering over backyard fences on South Maverick Way in Boise. When approached, Gaver refused to identify himself, explain his actions, or remove his hand from beneath the tarp. Additional deputies and Boise Police officers arrived and issued multiple warnings, stating that non-compliance would result in the use of a less-lethal beanbag round and deployment of a K9 unit.

After approximately 30 minutes, a deputy fired two beanbag rounds. A canine was then released and sicced on him. Gaver stabbed the dog and fled toward an open field. Police chased him to a gas station near the Cole and Amity intersection. Police fired Tasers at him, causing him to fall. A second canine was sent and attacked him. Gaver stabbed this dog multiple times in self-defense. Four detectives and one officer all fired at the same time, striking Gaver.

On 01/19/2024, Twin Falls Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call reporting gunshots. Upon arrival, a female occupant exited the residence, while a male subject barricaded himself inside. The Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was activated and engaged in prolonged negotiations. After hours of attempted communication, SWAT officers breached the home, at which point the individual died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On 01/08/2024, at approximately 3:10 a.m., Idaho Falls Police officers were searching for 29-year-old Wyatt M. Landon, who had multiple outstanding warrants, including felony possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm. An officer conducted a traffic stop near 3rd Street and South Lee Avenue for an obstructed license plate. Landon, the passenger, exited the vehicle and fled southbound on Lee Avenue.

Officer Oscar Rosales, positioned nearby, confronted Landon near 4th Street and Lee Avenue. Landon fired a handgun at Officer Rosales, who returned fire, striking Landon four times. Landon was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Eastern Idaho Critical Incident Task Force investigated the incident, and the Bonneville County Prosecutor determined that Officer Rosales acted in self-defense and his actions were legally justified.

Cortez had been arrested for drugs, then gun possession and had prior bad experience with police. Two women were found dead in a Meridian home. Police began looking for Clint Powers who tried to hijack a vehicle. It turned into a foot chase with police alleging that he fired shots at them. Police shot and killed Powers.

Kootenai County deputies were called to an alleged mental health emergency.
According to someone who knew Ms. Smith, she had been an elderly woman who was 95% blind, had been served a 60-day eviction notice which was then reduced to 30 days. She reportedly had run out of options. Five consecutive gunshots were heard by witnesses, suggesting suicide to be highly unlikely. A helicopter and SWAT armored vehicle added to the military racket causing distress to the whole community per eyewitnesses. They arrived and for unknown reasons, they fired shots at her. SWAT arrived. Police stated that the woman was “found dead in the apartment.”

Police are refusing to answer any questions about the incident and the police chief was confident on 11/10/2023 in an interview that his officers would be cleared from the incident and back to work shortly. A bodycam was eventually released, showing that the officer fired at least 18 bullets at a woman who was hiding in her bed with a pistol.

Meridian PD saw a vehicle they felt may have been stolen and activated a chase. A female driver did not stop. Oregon State Police joined the high-speed chase and police escalated a chase up to 90 mph. The driver veered into oncoming traffic while fleeing. The driver, 22-year-old Tylisha Evans, crashed and died as a result of the police chase.

Star PD were sent to the scene of a suicidal man who allegedly held a gun to his head. When police arrived and began yelling orders, he reportedly fired a shot and injured himself. He was still alive and police fired several shots and killed him.

A man was knocking on doors of the Fort Hall Indian Reservation and allegedly had a knife in his hand.
