On April 13, 2024, Plaquemine Police officers initiated a pursuit of Jonathan “Jono” Keith Williams involved in a domestic violence incident. Police escalated a chase to speeds over 100 miles per hour. The officers "called off the chase" just before impact. The vehicle crashed, killing Williams and critically injuring the passenger. A third-party driver was also involved in the crash and sustained injuries. The incident is under investigation by Louisiana State Police.

On April 12, 2024, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Warren Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on Garbor Drive near Ryan Road and 11 Mile. The 911 caller reported that 18-year-old Hussein Al-Raji was assaulting family members and had not slept for four days. Officers approached the residence and observed Al-Raji emerging from the garage armed with a 9mm Glock handgun. Body camera footage shows Al-Raji taking no action to lower the weapon and pointing it at police. Officers fired 11 rounds, striking Al-Raji three times. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Clenard Parker arrived at the DPS office and was told he would not have his commercial trucking license renewed. At approximately 7:50 p.m. on April 12, 2024, a Cottonwood police officer initiated a traffic stop of Donovan Jelicich’s vehicle in the 500 block of South 12th Street in Cottonwood. Jelicich had been driving without headlights and tailgating another vehicle. After a brief interaction where Jelicich provided his license and failed to remain in his vehicle, he exited his car and engaged in a physical altercation with the officer. The officer deployed a Taser, but the altercation escalated, and Jelicich was shot during the struggle. The officer was injured and treated at Verde Valley Medical Center, while Jelicich was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center. He died from his injuries on April 19, 2024. The officer involved was placed on administrative leave as per protocol. Dash cam and body cam footage of the incident have been released for review.

Memphis PD approached a vehicle they declared as “suspicious” and engaged in a shootout with the teenage occupants. On April 12, 2024, at approximately 11:05 p.m., Deputy Alex Zanini of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a white pickup truck near Merrell Road and Harper Road in Groveland for an unreadable license plate and a malfunctioning brake light. The vehicle was occupied by two individuals, including 42-year-old Shawn Karr of Coulterville.

During the stop, the driver provided an alias and lacked a valid driver’s license. Deputy Zanini detained the driver in his patrol car after finding suspected methamphetamine on him. Deputy Zanini then informed Karr that he would be detained for officer safety during a search of the truck. Karr exited the vehicle, fled on foot, and was pursued by Deputy Zanini. A physical struggle ensued, during which Karr allegedly produced a firearm and threatened the deputy.

Fearing for his safety, Deputy Zanini discharged his weapon, fatally striking Karr. Two loaded firearms and approximately 13 grams of methamphetamine were recovered from Karr. No other injuries were reported. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and the California Department of Justice are conducting investigations into the incident.

On April 11, 2024, Hempstead County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at a location in Columbus to serve a warrant for Randy Aaron May. Albuquerque PD tried to arrest a man for open warrants in the Walmart parking lot at 2266 Wyoming Boulevard NE. On April 11, 2024, Alexander C. Grunke, a 38-year-old man wanted for alleged involvement in a homicide in a neighboring county, was located by law enforcement in Dane County, Iowa. Grunke fled from officers in a vehicle before it was disabled.

On 04/10/2024, deputies from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest 28-year-old Clint Lavelle Hoyhtya near Crestwood Drive East and Mayview Road in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Hoyhtya was reportedly wanted on an outstanding warrant and was located after a brief search.

Upon confrontation, Hoyhtya allegedly displayed a firearm, prompting officers Christopher Heihn, Tyler Jacob, Keith McNamara, and Steven Tomasko to fire their weapons. Hoyhtya was struck multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

On April 9, 2024, at approximately 6:55 a.m., a motorist reported a vehicle stopped in the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 160, about one mile west of Attica, Kansas. A Harper County Sheriff's deputy arrived and found a tan 2006 Toyota Prius halted in the middle of the highway. Approaching to offer assistance, the deputy observed the driver, 54-year-old Cheryl R. Gaines of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, holding a knife in one hand and scissors in the other.

An officer from the Attica Police Department soon joined the deputy. Both officers retreated approximately 100 yards from the vehicle and repeatedly commanded Gaines to drop her weapons and exit the car. Gaines exited the vehicle but refused to relinquish the knife and scissors. She then charged at the officers. As they retreated, the Attica officer tripped and fell. Gaines approached the fallen officer, still armed, prompting the Harper County deputy to fire three shots, striking her.

On 04/09/2024, Carlos Collins was inside his North Jackson apartment when former Jackson police officer Marcus Johnson arrived and confronted him despite an active history of domestic conflict and a protection order filed by Collins. Johnson attacked Collins with an axe, striking him multiple times including blows to the head, and the struggle spilled into the apartment hallway where Collins attempted to seek help from neighbors. Johnson then shot Collins at least fifteen times at close range, killing him. Collins, a registered nurse at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center described by family as a gentle and supportive presence, died at the scene. Prosecutors documented stalking behavior leading up to the killing and recovered the weapon later pawned by Johnson. Johnson fled, led law enforcement on a multi state chase, and was captured in Louisiana. A Hinds County jury convicted him of first degree murder in 2026 after rejecting his self defense claim.
