On April 24, 2024, at approximately 6:10 a.m., LAPD officers initiated a pursuit of a gold Chevrolet Suburban driven by 23-year-old Germaine Smith, suspected of burglary. The chase proceeded through South Los Angeles streets until Smith's vehicle struck bicyclist Jose David Monsalve Rojas at the intersection of Hooper Avenue and 46th Street. The impact propelled Rojas over 100 feet, causing fatal injuries. Smith's vehicle continued, colliding with multiple vehicles and a telephone pole before overturning. Smith attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended. Rojas, a Colombian native who had arrived in the U.S. seven months prior, was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was charged with murder, vehicular manslaughter, felony evading, and felony hit-and-run. On 04/20/2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Ada County Sheriff's Deputy Tobin Bolter conducted a traffic stop near W. Overland Road and S. Raymond Street in Boise. As Deputy Bolter approached the vehicle, the driver, identified as 65-year-old Dennis Mulqueen, shot him through the driver's side window. Mulqueen then fled the scene. Responding officers located Mulqueen's abandoned vehicle near S. Dorian Street and W. Roosevelt Street. A perimeter was established, and after an hour of failed negotiations, the Boise Police Department's Special Operations Unit advanced on Mulqueen's position. Mulqueen fired at the officers, striking a tactical shield. Detective Josh Sontag returned fire, hitting Mulqueen twice. Mulqueen was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Bonner County Prosecuting Attorney reviewed the incident and determined that Detective Sontag's use of deadly force was justified under Idaho law.

The incident began around 1 p.m. when Island Heights Police Officer Peter Muscarella stopped Cassidy for expired vehicle registration and discovered two outstanding arrest warrants against him. Despite multiple requests, Cassidy refused to exit his vehicle, citing panic and asthma attacks. The situation escalated, leading officers to forcibly remove him from the car. During the arrest, Cassidy experienced a medical episode, became unresponsive, and was later pronounced dead at Community Medical Center at 2:25 p.m.

Frank E. Tyson crashed his vehicle, ran from the crash site, was stopped by police and a violent arrest ensued. He died during arrest. Ben Crump representing the family likened the arrest to George Floyd and Eric Garner, stating he had been face down and telling police he could not breathe and was not helped. Crump pointed out that on bodycam, Tyson can be heard telling an officer that he cannot breathe and the officer replied: "You're fine. Shut the fuck up." As he gasps for air and repeats "I can't breathe.", one officer's knee is seen on his neck while others push him down. Tyson also asks "get off my neck." Bodycam documents 8 minutes going by before CPR was given. On August 13, 2024, it was ruled that his death was a homicide. Autopsy had shown that alcohol and cocaine were in his system and that he had died of cardiac arrest. This court case likely will focus heavily on positional asphyxiation during arrest, a common cause of death during forcible arrests when a person is held face-down for prolonged periods and cannot breathe. Frank Tyson had repeatedly told police that he could not breathe but instead of repositioning him, they told him to "shut the fuck up."

On 04/19/2024, Lieutenant Battle observed 33-year-old Bryan Christopher White shooting at another man. Lieutenant Battle claims that White pointed a gun at him. Lieutenant Battle opened fire, striking White. Both White and the man White shot were transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, where they both died from their injuries. A 17-year-old male was also injured. On April 19, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a duplex on the 7300 block of Arleta Court. Upon arrival, six individuals, including the victim, were safely evacuated. The man locked himself inside the residence. Deputies engaged in approximately an hour of negotiations, which ceased when the man ignited a fire within the home. Deputies attempted to rescue him by breaking windows but were unsuccessful. Firefighters arrived and extracted the unconscious man, who was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. The domestic violence victim sustained minor injuries.

During the high-speed chase, the fleeing vehicle collided with a transit bus, which then struck a red BMW driven by a 76-year-old man. The collision resulted in the death of the BMW driver and incapacitating injuries to his 74-year-old female passenger.

On April 19, 2024, the Pima County Sheriff's Department responded to a burglary in progress at the intersection of North Bowman and East Golder Ranch roads in Tucson, Arizona. Upon arrival, they found Joseph Mudd III holding another person at knifepoint. Deputies gave commands for him to drop the weapon, but he failed to comply, prompting one officer to discharge their firearm. Mudd was struck by gunfire and died at the scene. The individual who was held at knifepoint was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities stated that an internal investigation would be conducted to determine if any policies were violated during the incident.

Steven Scott had warrants for his arrest. Gwinnett County Police found him at Waffle House. He fled. Police escalated a chase at high speed. During the chase, police reported that Scott fired multiple shots, striking a nearby Waffle House and the unmarked vehicle of a pursuing detective. Officers executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to disable Scott’s vehicle after which he lost control near a utility pole. As officers approached the disabled vehicle, they allege Scott continued shooting. In response, police fired their weapons, fatally wounding Scott.

Officers provided medical aid until emergency responders arrived, but Scott was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers sustained injuries during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent review to evaluate the circumstances of the pursuit and use of force.

On April 18, 2024, Shane Anderson, a 33-year-old Black male, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a standoff with the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety in the 1400 block of Longfellow Avenue, Jackson, Michigan. Officers had responded to reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon their arrival, Anderson reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence.

Police negotiated for several hours while the residence was surrounded. During the standoff, Anderson sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. The involved officers' identities and specific actions during the incident have not been disclosed.
