On April 1, 2024, at approximately 10:52 a.m., Florence police officers attempted to serve felony warrants for rape from Utah on Bart James Barcelou. The confrontation occurred in the backyard of a residence on the 200 block of Walnut Street. Barcelou, armed with two knives, charged at officers, who first deployed a taser. The taser was unsuccessful, and police then shot and killed him. Body cam footage of the event exists but has been withheld during the investigation. The officer involved was not named, and the grand jury ultimately cleared the officer, determining that there was insufficient evidence for criminal charges.

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers, including SWAT team members Vincent Marshall, Dustin Bland, and Maverick Bowen, were dispatched to a residence in the 3200 block of Winton Avenue following reports of an armed individual. The man, identified as 31-year-old Luis Duran-Ruano, reportedly held a firearm while standing outside the residence.

On March 31, 2024, Homestead Police responded to reports of gunfire at the Villas of Sunrise townhouse complex. After disengaging, they were called back hours later at approximately 2:30 a.m. When Chong again failed to obey commands—this time allegedly approaching with a BB gun—officers opened fire. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a Hispanic female adult who reported that her boyfriend had just assaulted her. While interviewing the woman, deputies observed a green Honda van, driven by 44-year-old Adrian Agustin Pilar of Los Angeles, traveling southbound on Herbert Avenue toward City Terrace Drive. Deputies followed Pilar to the end of a cul-de-sac in the 3900 block of East Snow Drive. Exiting their patrol vehicle, deputies detained Pilar at gunpoint and issued commands for him to stop his vehicle. Pilar made a three-point turn and began driving toward the deputies, ignoring repeated commands to stop. As he continued to advance toward one of the deputies, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Pilar sustained gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Deputies administered first aid until Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived. Pilar was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. One deputy was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident. No other individuals were injured. On March 27, 2024, at approximately 7:51 a.m., Pacifica Police Department officers responded to a 911 call from a 23-year-old man reporting that his mother, 50-year-old Michelle Arrais, had shot him inside their apartment on the 2500 block of Francisco Boulevard. The son stated he was awakened by gunshots before Arrais entered his bedroom and shot him twice. Upon arrival, officers observed Arrais attempting to leave the apartment complex in a white SUV. When officers ordered her to stop, she allegedly pointed a firearm at them, prompting Corporal Hayden Fry and Officer Kevin Contreras to discharge their service weapons, fatally wounding her. A loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun and four boxes of ammunition were recovered from her vehicle. Inside the apartment, officers found the family dog deceased from apparent gunshot wounds, believed to have been inflicted by Arrais prior to shooting her son. The son was located hiding in a locked bathroom, treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and later released from the hospital. On 03/27/2024, 28-year-old Ian Michael Tilton was shot and killed by an off-duty DC Police officer in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, following a car crash at Crane Hwy and Trade Zone Ave. Tilton reportedly fled the scene of the crash on foot. The off-duty officer witnessed Tilton and pursued him. During the encounter, the officer deployed a Taser and then fired their weapon, fatally striking Tilton.

On March 26, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Clio Police Department officers and Genesee County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a domestic disturbance with shots fired at an apartment complex in the 600 block of North Mill Street in Clio, Michigan. Officers discovered two deceased individuals: 31-year-old Ron Tatro and 51-year-old Kasi Ane Gipe. Tatro was found inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds, while Gipe was located on the building's steps.

The shooter, identified as 28-year-old Eric Adam Bennett, was seen in the middle of the road armed with a shotgun. Police alleged that Bennett pointed the shotgun at them. Officers opened fire. On March 26, 2024, reports indicated that 68-year-old Bill Dean Osterhout was suicidal. Per his girlfriend, he was not at the residence and had sent concerning text messages.

At around 5:31 p.m., officers located Osterhout sitting in his pickup truck in the parking lot of a liquor store at 237 N. Main Street. Officers approached and observed a handgun between his legs. They engaged him and demanded that he put down the gun. He allegedly made suicidal statements, pointing the gun at his head and chin multiple times.

Police alleged that at approximately 5:42 p.m., he pointed the handgun at them. Two officers opened fire, collectively firing 22 rounds and striking him. Osterhout was pronounced deceased at the location at 5:49 p.m.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation. The findings will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for review.

A woman called police and asked for help for her friend who was suicidal and driving. Police located the friend by cell phone data and began chasing her vehicle. She eventually pulled over and when police busted the windows of her vehicle, she shot and killed herself.

On March 26, 2024, at approximately 5:09 p.m., Fullerton Police Department officers responded to a reported bank robbery at the Wells Fargo branch located at 141 W. Bastanchury Road. The man, identified as 57-year-old Scott William Thompson, entered the bank wearing a mask and claimed to possess a bomb contained within a white box. He demanded $58,000 from the teller, threatening to detonate the device if his demands were not met. At the time, the bank was occupied by employees and at least one customer. Officers arrived on the scene within two minutes and established communication with bank employees via telephone. Approximately ten minutes into the incident, employees informed officers that they had placed the demanded money into a box labeled "DPS" and that Thompson would be exiting the bank shortly. Upon exiting the bank holding the white box, officers issued commands for Thompson to stop and raise his hands. Thompson failed to comply and began walking back toward the bank entrance. Fearing that he might re-enter the bank with an explosive device, officers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding him. The Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad was dispatched to assess the potential threat. They determined that the device was a facsimile, constructed to resemble an actual explosive but incapable of detonation. No officers, bank employees, or customers were injured during the incident. Subsequent investigations revealed that Thompson had an extensive criminal history, including prior federal convictions for armed bank robbery and escape, and was on federal probation for armed bank robbery at the time of the incident.

Tuscaloosa PD responded to a mental health welfare check on Evet Tower, who was allegedly acting erratically and was reported to have attacked her daughter with a kitchen knife. Tuscaloosa County deputies were conversing with her when she allegedly retrieved a knife and charged at her daughter. One of the officers shot and killed her. Body cam footage, which was not released, reportedly captured the incident and showed the attack. The family had been involved in discussions about her mental health before the incident. On March 25, 2024, at approximately 2:46 p.m., employees at Victory Motors, located at 2701 Falls Avenue in Waterloo, Iowa, reported that a neighbor, identified as 41-year-old John Piazza, had pointed a gun at an employee's face and fired a round at the property. Piazza allegedly stated he would return with a rifle.

Waterloo Police Department officers responded to Piazza's residence at 1204 Hartman Avenue, situated behind Victory Motors. Officers observed him near the window of the residence with a long gun. Piazza allegedly pointed the firearm out of a window toward the officers. An officer opened fire, striking Piazza through the window. Officers entered the residence and found Piazza deceased.

On March 25, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., a collision occurred near the intersection of Highway 231 and Highway 390 in Panama City, Florida. A Bay County Sheriff's Office prisoner transport van, carrying three inmates, was traveling north on Highway 231 when a Honda sedan, also northbound, collided with the rear of the van. The impact resulted in injuries to seven individuals, including the three prisoners, all of whom were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Kristen Clark, a 33-year-old passenger in the Honda, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was seven months pregnant; her unborn son, Asher Blaze, did not survive.

Kristen Clark was a co-general manager at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Bainbridge, Georgia. She was returning from Florida at the time of the accident, just hours before her scheduled baby shower. Colleagues and friends remember her as a dedicated professional and a loving mother. She is survived by her two sons.
