The victim reported that her ex-boyfriend, 40-year-old Jose Acosta, had violated a protective order by arriving at her residence and demanding entry. Deputies located Acosta driving an orange Pontiac vehicle stopped in the eastbound lanes of Artesia Boulevard at Downey Avenue in Long Beach. As deputies positioned their vehicles behind Acosta's car to initiate a traffic stop, he suddenly reversed at high speed, crashing into the front end of a patrol vehicle with such force that both vehicles became inoperable. Acosta then exited his vehicle holding a knife with an approximate three-inch blade. Despite deputies' commands to drop the weapon, Acosta advanced toward them, prompting a deputy-involved shooting. Acosta sustained gunshot wounds to the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene. One deputy was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the collision. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On March 18, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Coldwater Police Department requested assistance from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Emergency Support Team to serve a multi-count felony arrest warrant, including charges of home invasion, on 32-year-old Richard Wilkinson at his residence on Lucky Drive in Coldwater, Michigan. Upon arrival, Wilkinson confronted officers while armed with an AR-style rifle. A member of the MSP Emergency Support Team opened fire, resulting in Wilkinson's death. The trooper was placed on administrative leave. The First District Investigative Response Team and the MSP Lansing Lab are investigating and will submit the findings to the Branch County Prosecuting Attorney.

On 03/17/2024, Michelle Wall, 44, was driving to church when police chased a stolen Jeep into her vehicle at East 156th Street and Calcutta Avenue in Cleveland, killing her. According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her mother, Elizabeth Wall, former Euclid officer Benjamin Wilcox initiated the pursuit and Lt. Vashon Williams authorized it, despite dangerous conditions and speeds alleged to have reached up to 120 mph. Deputy Howell fired his Taser while still hanging onto the car door. He then discharged his firearm, striking Smith. The vehicle stopped, and Smith was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On 03/14/2024, Francisco Nunez, a 38-year-old father of eight, was reportedly involved in an incident with deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD). Nunez was in a vehicle identified by LASD as possibly stolen. Two individuals fled the vehicle, leaving behind a 14-year-old boy, who was shot in the chest and legs by LASD deputies but survived. Eyewitnesses, including the boy, reported that LASD deputies handcuffed and beat Nunez at the scene.

Five days later, Nunez was found deceased 250 feet from the location of the alleged assault, with blood in his mouth, hands, and pants, as well as visible bruises and burn marks on his body. LASD claimed Nunez had never been in custody and cited methamphetamine toxicity as the cause of death. However, the coroner disputed this, telling Nunez's family the death was consistent with injuries from a physical altercation.

The investigation was conducted internally by LASD, with deputies Rivas and Leopoldo Sanchez, known for affiliations with the LASD deputy gang "Banditos," reportedly involved. The deputies who allegedly detained and beat Nunez, Simi and Quesada, were from the Lancaster LASD station, which has faced previous allegations of misconduct.

Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Siris Catchings deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving Catchings' wife and identified 21-year-old Joshua Taylor as the shooter.

Following the incident, authorities initiated a manhunt for Joshua Taylor. On March 12, law enforcement officers located Taylor at the Super 8 Motel on Dunn Ratcliff Road NW in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Before officers could apprehend him, Taylor released a 16-year-old girl who was with him and then shot himself. He was initially treated at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven and later transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Taylor succumbed to his injuries on March 15.

On March 13, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Detroit Police Department officers attempted to contact a male individual wanted for a violent felony at a residence in the 19000 block of Yonka Street in Detroit. The individual locked himself inside the home. Police escalated a prolonged standoff. Police negotiators tried to establish communication.

At around 8:00 p.m., officers entered the residence and discovered the man deceased on the second floor from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. It is believed he shot himself during the stress of the standoff with police.
