Deputies attempted to negotiate with Gilmore, urging him to exit the garage unarmed. Despite these efforts, Gilmore emerged holding a knife and advanced toward the deputies. After issuing multiple commands to drop the weapon, deputies deployed less-lethal shotgun rounds, which failed to stop his approach. As Gilmore came within several feet of the deputies, one deputy discharged his service weapon, striking Gilmore multiple times. Deputies administered first aid, but Gilmore was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office stated that the use of lethal force was in response to Gilmore's continued advancement with a weapon despite non-lethal interventions. However, Gilmore's family disputes this account, asserting that he was holding a small disposable razor and posed no threat to the deputies. They have released home surveillance footage of the incident and filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Sacramento County, alleging excessive use of force and inadequate handling of a mental health crisis.

On March 20, 2024, Michael P. O’Neal, a 39-year-old man from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was fatally shot by off-duty Summerville Police officer Anthony DeLustro in the parking lot of a Chick-fil-A on North Main Street in Summerville, South Carolina. Witnesses reported that DeLustro was the primary aggressor in a physical altercation that ensued between the two men. During the confrontation, DeLustro claims that he identified himself as a police officer and attempted to arrest O’Neal, displaying his police credentials. As the situation escalated, DeLustro's firearm fell to the ground. O’Neal attempted to leave the scene by returning to his vehicle. DeLustro retrieved his weapon, entered the passenger side of O’Neal’s car, and, as O’Neal began to drive away, DeLustro fired a single shot, striking O’Neal. O’Neal died from his injuries at the scene. DeLustro was subsequently charged with murder and kidnapping. He was later granted bond under strict conditions, including house arrest and GPS monitoring. O'Neal's family described him as a family-oriented individual who was very pro-law enforcement. They believe the altercation may have been avoided if O'Neal had known DeLustro was a police officer. In May of 2025, DeLustro sued the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police), demanding that they provide him with legal representation.

On March 19, 2024, federal ATF agents served a search warrant at Bryan Malinowski’s home in Little Rock, Arkansas. Malinowski allegedly shot at the agents during the raid, striking one agent. Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact Rocco via telephone, instructing him to surrender. Instead, Rocco emerged onto a third-story balcony armed with a 5.56 caliber semiautomatic "ghost gun" rifle, loaded with 39 rounds and equipped with an additional loaded magazine. He then jumped from the balcony to the ground below, dropping the rifle in the process. As Rocco attempted to retrieve the weapon, officers issued commands for him to stop. When he failed to comply and reached for the rifle, officers discharged their firearms, striking him. Rocco was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On March 19, 2024, at approximately 9:18 p.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lakewood Station responded to a residence in the 15900 block of Indiana Avenue in Paramount regarding a restraining order violation. The victim reported that her ex-boyfriend, 40-year-old Jose Acosta, had violated a protective order by arriving at her residence and demanding entry. Deputies located Acosta driving an orange Pontiac vehicle stopped in the eastbound lanes of Artesia Boulevard at Downey Avenue in Long Beach. As deputies positioned their vehicles behind Acosta's car to initiate a traffic stop, he suddenly reversed at high speed, crashing into the front end of a patrol vehicle with such force that both vehicles became inoperable. Acosta then exited his vehicle holding a knife with an approximate three-inch blade. Despite deputies' commands to drop the weapon, Acosta advanced toward them, prompting a deputy-involved shooting. Acosta sustained gunshot wounds to the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene. One deputy was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the collision. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On March 18, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Coldwater Police Department requested assistance from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Emergency Support Team to serve a multi-count felony arrest warrant, including charges of home invasion, on 32-year-old Richard Wilkinson at his residence on Lucky Drive in Coldwater, Michigan. Upon arrival, Wilkinson confronted officers while armed with an AR-style rifle. A member of the MSP Emergency Support Team opened fire, resulting in Wilkinson's death. The trooper was placed on administrative leave. The First District Investigative Response Team and the MSP Lansing Lab are investigating and will submit the findings to the Branch County Prosecuting Attorney.

Winterville Police tried to stop a vehicle, believing it to be a person wanted for domestic violence. The vehicle fled. Police chased it until it crashed head-on into a SUV. Marqese Perkins, the fleeing driver was killed when his car burst into flames.

On 03/18/2024, Decatur Police attempted to arrest 38-year-old Rocky L. Dupin in connection with an armed robbery. During the arrest, Dupin pulled a gun from his waistband. Officers Dawson Roberts and Tanner Brummitt responded by opening fire, fatally shooting Dupin.
