On February 18, 2024, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Union County 911 received a call reporting a domestic dispute involving a firearm at a residence on Wesley Mountain Road in Blairsville, Georgia. Union County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the location and attempted to negotiate with 85-year-old Wendall Cross, who was armed. During the encounter, Cross fired his gun in the direction of the deputies. In response, the deputies returned fire, striking Cross. Deputies rendered aid, and Union County EMS transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the findings will be presented to the Union County District Attorney’s Office for review.

On February 17, 2024, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Jeffrey Moss, 51, was crossing MacArthur Road near Seneca Street in Wichita, Kansas. A Wichita Police Department patrol vehicle, driven by a 29-year-old officer, was traveling eastbound on MacArthur Road when it struck Moss. Moss was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kansas Highway Patrol found that the officer admitted to deleting emails on his department-issued computer at the time of the collision.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office reviewed the case and determined there was insufficient evidence of criminal liability on the part of the officer; therefore, no charges were filed.

On February 17, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper initiated a traffic stop on a 40-year-old male driver in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach. The trooper suspected the driver of being impaired and instructed him to remain in his vehicle. However, the driver exited his vehicle and failed to comply with the trooper's commands to return. The trooper deployed a Taser, resulting in a brief struggle on the highway shoulder. The driver then walked westward into the southbound lanes of I-95, where he was struck by multiple vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were reported injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting the investigation. The name of the deceased is still being withheld. The names of the trooper involved have not been disclosed, shielding their identities.

Officers were responding to reports of a domestic disturbance where Gooden was reportedly armed and had barricaded himself in the home with multiple family members, including seven children ranging in age from 2 to 15.

As officers attempted to negotiate, Gooden opened fire, fatally striking Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, as well as Burnsville Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth. Sgt. Adam Medlicott was also injured but survived. In response to the gunfire, officers returned fire, striking and killing Gooden. He was pronounced dead on location.
