The officer escalated a chase over 100 miles per hour. With police in constant pursuit, the motorcyclist tried to run a red light at the Columbia Boulevard intersection when they struck the side of an SUV, causing the SUV to roll on to its side. The motorcyclist died at the scene.

A 911 call came in around 11:30 p.m., saying a man was armed and threatening to shoot people outside a residence. Lebanon PD arrived at the scene on East Mulberry near Mound Street and encountered Dione Kellum with a handgun. Kellum reportedly fired one shot at the ground, then pointed the gun at police. They fired shots. Kellum pointed the gun at his head and committed suicide under police duress.
