Doroteo Martinez-Castro was involved in a head-on crash April 22 in unincorporated Haines City at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17/92 and Lee Jackson Highway North. One man died from his injuries shortly after the crash. Martinez-Castro was charged with DUI manslaughter, was arrested after being treated and released.
After being booked into the Polk County Jail, he became ill in the South County Jail medical dorm. He was taken to ahospital where he died. An initial autopsy shows he died from "crash-related internal injuries," deputies noted.

The Polk County sheriff’s office said deputies were called to the home of Maximino Lopez-Gonzalez, 68, for a family disturbance. He had sprayed a bedridden 65-year-old woman with a chemical cleaning liquid while threatening to kill her.Deputies arrested him and he was taken to the sheriff’s processing center. He freed one hand from cuffs and started hitting the windows of a patrol car with his fists and head. The deputy who was transporting the Lopez-Gonzalez stopped. Maximino Lopez-Gonzalez was sweating and hallucinating and continued to fight police, suggestive of possible drug intoxication. He became unresponsive on the way to the hospital and died. More than two dozen police units responded.
Officer Visciotti had shot and killed Joseph Taylor, 33, in April and was just cleared for that killing one week before being centrally involved in the death of Ken’Deris Lawrence. Visciotti had just been cleared to return back to work days before killing Ken’Deris Lawrence. In 2021, Officer Visciotti shot and injured Devin R. Ned and was appointed Hero of the Year 2021.

Ohio County deputies chased him a mile to the Ohio River boat ramp near Front Street and went into the water. Officers said he remained uncooperative and wouldn't leave the vehicle. He drowned.
