On July 24, 2021, officers from the Springfield Township Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Andre Christopher, who was observed traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Christopher failed to pull over, leading officers to initiate a high-speed pursuit that concluded at the intersection of Galbraith and Winton Road in Finneytown, Ohio. Christopher's vehicle collided with another car, resulting in the death of Yvette C. Smith, a 51-year-old woman who was the bystander in the struck vehicle. Christopher attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by officers and taken into custody.

On 07/23/2021, retired Rock Hill Police Department Lieutenant Larry Vaughan was found beaten to death inside an apartment complex in downtown Rock Hill. Former Chester County Sheriff’s Deputy Evan Hawthorne, aged 31, was later convicted by a jury on 09/02/2025 for Vaughan’s murder and sentenced to life in prison.

On 07/23/2021, deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Marcus Pettis, 23, riding in an Uber at Evergreen Drive and Ninth Street in Lake Park. He began shooting at deputies, fled on foot after the exchange of gunfire, and was later found dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound in a second-floor apartment building.

On 07/23/2021, officers from the San Diego Police Department pursued a vehicle driven by Jesus Salvador Valeta after a shooting was reported and a vehicle matching the description was located near 54th Street and El Cajon Boulevard. Police attempted to stop the vehicle; Valeta fled on foot onto the property of a fast food restaurant near the intersection. Investigators say he tripped while running, dropped a handgun, picked it back up, and then made a motion with the gun while on his knees. Two officers fired their service weapons; Valeta was taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.

On 07/23/2021, at approximately 10:19 p.m., Asbury Park Police Department officers responded to a home at 305 7th Avenue where James Manzo, 27, was allegedly behaving erratically and threatening harm to another individual. Officers entered the building and attempted to speak with Manzo, but their efforts to communicate with him were unsuccessful. When an officer tried to enter Manzo’s room, Manzo allegedly attempted to stab the officer with a pair of scissors. Officer James R. Crawford, observing the threat, shot and killed Manzo.

On 07/22/2021, around 4:05 p.m., the Duncan Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 300 block of West Maple Avenue. Officers encountered 43-year-old Shawn Daniel Tillison, who emerged from the residence with a firearm pointed into the air. Officers fired less-beanbags in an attempt to subdue him; however, Tillison allegedly pointed the firearm at the officers. They shot and killed him.

On July 22, 2021, around 6:30 p.m., a large fight erupted in the 3000 block of North Water Street in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood. Carlos Rodriguez, 40, produced a handgun and allegedly began firing into the crowd, with two shots directed toward responding plainclothes officers. Officers Suarez and Lesesane discharged their weapons, firing at least six shots, fatally striking Rodriguez.

Officers responded to a call reporting shots fired and an attempt to enter a home. As they arrived, they received another call about a neighbor firing a weapon into a home. Boerne police and a Kendall deputy found Cullen Condon on the front porch of another home. Officers ordered him to step away from the home and approach them. Condon allegedly threatened the officers with a weapon, and one officer shot and killed him.

Wichita police said officers received information that Gabriel Christian Seim was involved in past drug trafficking incidents, and he was driving a Toyota RAV4. Officers found him traveling on northbound Interstate 135, and they attempted to stop him. The RAV4 exited on 53rd Street North, heading eastbound, where it crashed into a GMC. Seim was killed in the crash. The 43-year-old man inside the GMC was injured.

On 07/21/2021, Manchester Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and police escalated a pursuit. The chase ended near Main Street and Hartford Road, where the man fled on foot. Officers opened fire after a confrontation, shooting and wounding him. He survived and was later charged.

On July 21, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a Haywood County deputy initiated a traffic stop on a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 20-year-old Dalton Grey Suttles, who had outstanding felony warrants. Suttles fled westbound on U.S. 23/74 toward Jackson County. Officers from the Waynesville Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Jackson County Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit. During the chase, Suttles crossed into the oncoming eastbound traffic lane and collided head-on with a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup truck.

Zenen F. Lopez-Guzman, a passenger in the Nissan Titan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Titan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. The incident is under review, with agencies determining compliance with pursuit policies.

On July 20, 2021, around 5:00 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 7000 block of Fishing Creek Valley Road in West Hanover Township, Harrisburg. Mitchell J. Shuller, 34, was reportedly firing a rifle at neighboring homes, with bullets striking at least two occupied residences. Upon arrival, troopers ordered Shuller to drop his weapon; however, he refused and fired in the direction of the officers. The troopers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Shuller.

Deputy Gregory Streeter from the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic incident around 10:30 p.m. involving Gilberto Martinez-Nava, 37, and his ex-wife. Martinez-Nava allegedly was choking his ex-wife during an argument and grabbed a knife when family members intervened. Dispatch reported that Martinez-Nava was agitated, suicidal, and a danger to his family. Streeter arrived at the home at 10:35 p.m., where he was greeted at the door by an older woman. Martinez-Nava, standing behind her, allegedly threatened the deputy with the knife. After ordering Martinez-Nava to drop the knife without compliance, Streeter shot and killed him.

On July 20, 2021, officers from the Mason Police Department responded to a report of a suicidal man at a residence on the 4700 block of Mason Montgomery Road in Mason, Ohio. A standoff ensued as officers attempted to de-escalate the situation. During the incident, the man fatally shot himself.

On July 19, 2021, a police pursuit began in Monroe, Michigan, and continued through Toledo's Old West End. The chase involved Michael David Clifton, a 50-year-old male, driving a truck. Toledo police officers joined the pursuit, which ended when Clifton crashed into several parked cars, disabling his vehicle.

On July 18, 2021, at 12:34 a.m., an officer patrolling near the I-64 and I-464 interchange noticed a 2016 Chrysler 200 speeding with its headlights off. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which stopped briefly before speeding away on I-64 East. At 12:47 a.m., traffic was slowed due to a prior crash at the 299-mile marker on eastbound I-64, and the Chrysler struck a 2005 Honda Accord from behind. The force of the crash caused the Honda to strike another vehicle and catch fire, killing the driver, Jahsani Jean-Baptiste, and injuring the driver and passenger of the vehicle it struck.

On July 17, 2021, deputies with the Wise County Sheriff's Office were searching for two missing juveniles. While searching the area, a deputy reportedly spotted a vehicle parked in bushes with two people inside. As the 16-year-old male exited the vehicle, an altercation ensued. The juvenile reportedly stabbed the deputy, and the deputy responded by shooting and killing him. The 13-year-old girl inside the vehicle was not injured.

On July 17, 2021, at approximately 9:36 p.m., Las Vegas Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 1308 Keen Street in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the reporting party. During this time, Jeffery Scott, 30, exited a nearby residence with a firearm. Scott allegedly fired multiple rounds. Two LVPD officers opened fire, killing Scott.

Kantrell DeShawn Head, a 30-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 17, 2021, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Police responded to a home on Scott Drive after reports of a domestic disturbance. Officers removed a child from the home and surrounded Head, who was reportedly threatening suicide. Shortly after, Head shot and killed himself.

On July 16, 2021, officers from the Roswell Police Department and deputies from the Chaves County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a man threatening to shoot other residents in the 2300 block of Mills Drive in Roswell, New Mexico. When officers located Craig Heinzen, 64, outside the back of the residence, he was allegedly armed with one or more firearms and refused to comply with commands. Officer Leroy Smith, Deputy Isaac Nava, and Deputy Ben Conklin opened fire, killing Heinzen.

On July 16, 2021, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Montgomery County Police Department officers responded to a McDonald's at 18273 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg, Maryland, following reports of a customer refusing to pay or move his vehicle in the drive-thru lane. Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Ryan Nicholas LeRoux seated in the driver's seat of a white Honda CRV, with a handgun visible on the front passenger seat.

Officers attempted to engage with LeRoux for approximately 30 minutes, instructing him to show his hands and exit the vehicle. LeRoux, who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis, remained unresponsive to commands. During the standoff, officers observed LeRoux make movements interpreted as reaching for the firearm. At approximately 11:02 p.m., perceiving an imminent threat, four officers—Brooks Inman, Sara Vaughan, John Cerny, and Corporal Romund Schmuck—discharged their weapons, fatally striking LeRoux.

A loaded Glock 27 handgun was recovered from LeRoux's vehicle. The involved officers were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. In April 2022, a Montgomery County grand jury declined to indict the officers, determining that the shooting was legally justified.

LeRoux's family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Montgomery County and the officers involved, alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and questioning the adequacy of the police response to individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Ramiro A. Rosete Jr., wanted for aggravated indecent liberties with a child, was involved in a police pursuit initiated by a Sedgwick County deputy after a traffic stop near Interstate 235 and Central. The pursuit ended when Rosete's vehicle was found unoccupied near Mead and Bayley. Deputies located him at a motel in the 7300 block of East Kellogg Drive North, where he had locked himself in a room and indicated he was armed. After several hours of negotiation, Rosete agreed to surrender but subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On July 15, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop Tyrone J. Lewis for driving 85 mph in a 60 mph zone. Lewis fled the scene, striking two other vehicles while attempting to evade capture. He then lost control of his vehicle on the Maury Street ramp, causing it to fall approximately 25 feet and flip multiple times. Lewis was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

On July 15, 2021, at approximately 6:07 p.m., a Chesapeake Police officer attempted to stop a dark-colored, two-door coupe for reckless driving on I-64 westbound. The driver fled, and during the pursuit, collided with a four-door Honda sedan at the intersection of Crossways Boulevard and Jarman Road. The collision resulted in the deaths of the Honda's occupants, 65-year-old David Jones and 54-year-old Jennifer O'Connell.

On July 15, 2021, at approximately 6:07 p.m., a Chesapeake Police officer attempted to stop a dark-colored, two-door coupe for reckless driving on I-64 westbound. The driver fled, and during the pursuit, collided with a four-door Honda sedan at the intersection of Crossways Boulevard and Jarman Road. The collision resulted in the deaths of the Honda's occupants, 65-year-old David Jones and 54-year-old Jennifer O'Connell.

On July 15, 2021, deputies from the Arenac County Sheriff's Office, along with officers from the Michigan State Police and the Saginaw-Chippewa Tribal Police Department, responded to a domestic violence situation at a residence in the 2100 block of Whites Beach Road in Standish Township. Upon arrival, they found that one of the two men involved in the incident was already deceased. The other man, Joshua I. Smith, was inside the house and refused to come out. Officers escalated a standoff. The situation concluded around 3:30 p.m. when Smith shot and killed himself.

A man allegedly driving a stolen pickup truck, was spotted by a deputy. The deputy began a pursuit at approximately 4:30 p.m. The pursuit ended when the truck crashed into another car along FM 1131, killing bystander Laurie Beth Seehusen.

On 07/10/2021, Maplewood Police officers pursued a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 36-year-old Scott Hardy of Wadena. During the chase, Hardy sped through Washington County and crashed into another vehicle, killing 80-year-old Shirley Bilden of Maplewood. Hardy was arrested and later convicted of fleeing police resulting in death. In April 2024, he was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison.

On 07/15/2021, officers from multiple agencies pursued a man wanted on homicide and kidnapping charges from Great Falls along U.S. Highway 2 toward West Glacier. Police escalated the chase through Flathead County until the vehicle stopped near the Cascadia Flat River Access area. Under unclear circumstances, officers opened fire and killed him. The exact speed of the pursuit was not released.

On July 15, 2021, at approximately 1:00 p.m., an Edmonson County deputy observed a stolen motorcycle operated by 34-year-old Kristopher M. Burden of Leitchfield, Kentucky, traveling southbound on Highway 259 North in the Kyrock area. Burden made an unlawful turn, nearly striking another vehicle. The deputy initiated a pursuit, which continued as Burden turned west onto Sunfish Bee Spring Road. He failed to negotiate a curve, exited the roadway, struck a road sign and guardrail, and was ejected from the motorcycle. Burden was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Edmonson County Coroner. The Kentucky State Police investigated the incident.

On July 15, 2021, 32-year-old Donald C. Williamson of Wetumpka was killed during a police pursuit initiated by the Wetumpka Police Department. Officers pursued Williamson, a person of interest, who was driving a 1989 Chevy Blazer. On Alabama Highway 143, approximately two miles south of Millbrook, Williamson left the roadway, re-entered, and crashed into a 2020 International MV607 commercial truck. He and passenger Katie S. Foshee, 39, of Montgomery, were transported to Baptist Medical Center South, where they both died from their injuries. The commercial truck driver was uninjured. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating.

On July 15, 2021, 39-year-old Katie S. Foshee of Montgomery was killed during a police pursuit initiated by the Wetumpka Police Department. She was a passenger in a 1989 Chevy Blazer driven by Donald C. Williamson, 32, of Wetumpka. During the pursuit, the vehicle left the roadway, re-entered it, and collided with a 2020 International MV607 commercial truck on Alabama Highway 143, approximately two miles south of Millbrook. Both Foshee and Williamson sustained serious injuries and were transported to Baptist Medical Center South, where they later died. The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the incident.

Xavier Vern Hutt had allegedly taken a hostage and fled, leading to a multi-agency car chase that concluded around 6:20 a.m. in the Cascadilla area of Flathead County, roughly 175 miles from Great Falls. Police shot and killed Hutt at the scene, though details surrounding the circumstances of his death were withheld by authorities.
