On 01/12/2022, off-duty Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Roelofs drove a pickup truck eastbound on the Courtney Campbell Causeway in Clearwater. Prosecutors allege Roelofs was driving under the influence and at excessive speed when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median, and crashed head-on into another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The violent impact crushed the passenger compartment of the oncoming vehicle and killed 33-year-old Jessica Reisinger. Another victim in the struck vehicle was seriously injured.
Investigators reported Roelofs left the United States after the crash and traveled to Colombia. Authorities later arrested him and returned him to Florida to face charges. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies arrived at an apartment building, knocking on doors, looking for someone wanted for kidnapping. A family was intimidated by the aggressive knocking and gathered in the back of the house, apparently unaware the knocking was police. A man in the household finally opened the door and was shot dead. Police said he had a gun. The occupants of the apartment did not seem to have been aware it was police at the door and police on BWC are confirmed to have made noise only but not identified themselves.

Under disputed circumstances, Off-duty Cumberland County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeffrey Hash fatally shot Jason Walker four times and called 911, stating that he fired a gun after the man ran into the road and jumped onto the hood of his pickup truck. Jason Walker was shot 4 times. He had been unarmed.
A group called Fayetteville Activist Movement claimed that Walker was shot and killed after being struck by Officer Hash’s vehicle. They also claimed that the Fayetteville Police Department only shared Hash’s “side of the story” and that eyewitnesses at the scene “revealed the truth.”
Elizabeth Ricks, a nurse who said she provided aid to Walker after the shooting, told protesters on Sunday at a rally organized that Walker was “not acting crazy” before he was shot—and did not “jump on traffic.” A video of Ricks speaking also showed her claiming Hash showed “no remorse” after the shooting.

Police allege that another car was speeding and weaving in between lanes when he lost control, hit a semi, spun across all lanes and collided with another tractor trailer around 11:32 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 5.7. The impact of the crash ejected a 20-year-old woman who was riding in the front passenger seat and she and an infant in a car seat were both pronounced dead on the scene. She had been thrown more than 100 feet and her head was found elsewhere on the freeway. Lake County sheriff's deputies state the reason for the chase was that they had tried to stop the car for speeding in downtown Gary.
