On August 6, 2021, Zidany Amado, 22, drowned while attempting to elude officers from the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office. At approximately 7:18 p.m., Amado entered the Okanogan River near Old Highway 97. He was observed swimming in the river when he went under the surface in a strong current and did not resurface.

On 08/06/2021, La Habra police responded to a disturbance involving a man who followed a woman from the freeway to the police station. Police confronted him outside the department. He drew a handgun and fired at officers, striking one officer. Police opened fire with multiple rounds and killed him in front of the station.

On August 6, 2021, around 12:14 a.m., a Barron County Sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The deputy asked the driver to exit the car for a sobriety test, which the driver complied with. The driver then stated he needed to grab something from his car, but the deputy informed him that he was not allowed to do so. Despite this, the driver drove off, and the deputy initiated a pursuit. After about seven miles, the deputy lost sight of the vehicle and ended the chase. Police later found the vehicle had crashed into a tree in a field driveway. The passenger was killed in the crash, and the driver, who was arrested for his sixth offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, was taken to Barron Hospital with minor injuries. The driver was also arrested for homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and fleeing an officer.

On 08/05/2021, Hartford police responded to a report of a man at a residence on Paula Street who had confronted the homeowner and refused to leave. According to reporting, the homeowner said they did not know the man, later identified as Joseph John Howard. When police arrived, an encounter occurred between Howard and officers. Police stated that Howard engaged physically with Corporal Eric Clifford. During the confrontation, Clifford attempted to use pepper spray, then opened fire, killing Howard at the scene. On 08/05/2021, Webb City police responded to a call reporting trespassing and illegal dumping near East Fountain Road in Joplin, Missouri. Officers encountered several people in a truck with an attached trailer. During the encounter, a physical confrontation occurred between officers and individuals at the scene. According to police statements, Aler Ronald Escobar-Velasquez gained control of an officer’s Taser during the struggle and used it while the officer was on the ground. Police reported that Escobar-Velasquez then attempted to access the officer’s firearm. An officer opened fire, killing Escobar-Velasquez at the scene. On August 5, 2021, around 5:45 p.m., Seattle Police responded to a home in the 10000 block of 21st Avenue Southwest to serve an arrest warrant for Isaiah Hinds, who was wanted in connection with a homicide in Seattle. Officers used a PA system from outside the house to instruct Hinds to surrender. When Hinds exited the home, allegedly armed with a handgun, an exchange of gunfire ensued between him and the police. Hinds was shot and killed during the confrontation.

On 08/05/2021, Los Angeles police attempted to stop a vehicle wanted in an armed robbery investigation. The driver refused to stop and police escalated a chase through Northridge at very high speed. No PIT maneuvers were reported. Around 12:30 a.m., the fleeing vehicle entered the intersection of Nordhoff Street and Tampa Avenue and collided with the car driven by Erick Barbosa-Guardado. He died at the scene. Police arrested the driver of the fleeing vehicle after the crash.

On August 4, 2021, Michigan State Police received information about a man and woman in possession of a stolen minivan at a rest area. During an attempted traffic stop, they did not stop. Police escalated a high-speed chase. The troopers eventually lost sight of the vehicle but later discovered the scene where the stolen minivan and two other vehicles had crashed in the front yard of a home on East Maple Street and East Street in Holly Township.

The man and woman then entered an occupied home, releasing the homeowners without harm. The woman surrendered to the police, but William Lanham, the man, fired at officers while remaining inside the house. Eventually, Lanham was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the residence.

On August 4, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Glendora Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call on Myrtle Street, where a woman reported that her boyfriend, 21-year-old Dylan Christopher Harmer, had assaulted her and was armed with a handgun. Upon arrival, Harmer exited the residence and pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at the officers before retreating back inside. He then fled the scene on foot. Azusa Police Department officers were called to assist in the search.

Harmer was located near the intersection of Glendora Avenue and West Route 66, where he was attempting to carjack at least two vehicles. When confronted by officers, he reportedly turned and pointed his firearm at an Azusa Police Department officer, who then shot and killed him.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is assisting the Azusa Police Department in the investigation of this officer-involved shooting. The names of the involved officers have not been publicly disclosed.

On August 4, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers from the Mansfield Police Department and Ontario Police Department arrived at a residence on the 3300 block of Peterson Road to serve an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Sean Rowe. Authorities reported that Rowe had refused to turn himself in multiple times over a month-long period and had locked his property to prevent entry.

Police deployed pepper gas into the home. As officers attempted to force their way inside, Rowe exited onto the front deck before retreating back into the house. Police stated that Rowe threatened officers with weapons. Two officers fired their weapons, fatally striking Rowe.

Antonio D. King, a 22-year-old Black male, was shot and killed by officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department on August 3, 2021, near the intersection of Antioch Pike and Franklin Limestone Road in Nashville, Tennessee. Earlier, King allegedly opened fire inside a Smile Direct Club facility, wounding three people. Metro Police officers responded to the active shooter incident and fatally shot King at the scene.

On 08/03/2021, the Plymouth Township Police Department responded to a call at the Plymouth Gardens apartments around 11:30 p.m. in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 22-year-old man with a handgun outside the building. A woman was also present, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police shot and killed him.

Waco police responded to a call at 10:07 a.m. reporting a man had shot another man at the Rex-Plex Apartments. Officers arrived five minutes later and found a man dead from two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. The shooter, Ent Wright, initially barricaded himself inside an apartment. He then exited the apartment with a gun, reportedly fired multiple shots, and was shot and killed by officers.

The chase continued into Boone County and ended when the car lost control and struck a tree at the intersection of Boone County Road 650 E and State Road 32. Nazire Parks, the driver, was killed in the crash.

On 08/03/2021, a U.S. Border Patrol agent attempted to stop a northbound vehicle that had evaded a checkpoint on New Mexico State Road 185. The agent and another Border Patrol unit pursued the vehicle with emergency equipment activated. Approximately three miles north of the checkpoint, the vehicle crashed and several occupants were ejected. The driver, Erik A. Molix, later died of his injuries. Another passenger also died from injuries sustained in the crash. Eight other occupants were hospitalized.

On 08/02/2021, Border Patrol agents tracked a group of migrants for several hours near Eagle Pass, Texas, then detained multiple people from the group, including a man reported to be from El Salvador. Agents handcuffed him together with two other migrants using two sets of handcuffs. Reporting said agents described him as struggling and causing discomfort to the other two people he was attached to. Agents separated him from the others, and he ran a short distance before agents detained him again. Agents restrained him and placed him on the hood of a Border Patrol vehicle. Agents kept him there while waiting for a transport vehicle for about an hour. When the transport vehicle arrived, agents found him dead.

On August 1, 2021, Georgia State Patrol and Newton County Police initiated a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle traveling through multiple counties in the Atlanta metro area. The driver continued driving at high speed and refused to stop. The pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle crashed on Interstate 20 near the DeKalb County line, striking another car carrying a pregnant woman. The impact killed the woman and critically injured Bailey, who remained hospitalized for years before being booked into jail in 2025. On August 1, 2021, officers attempted to stop Logan Anthony Zappa after noticing that the license plates on his 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix did not match the vehicle. Zappa fled the scene, leading to a five-minute pursuit. The officers reportedly discontinued the chase shortly thereafter. A short time later, St. Croix County sheriff's deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of County Road T and County Road H in Stanton, where Zappa was found seriously injured. Zappa had run a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck, resulting in his death.

On 08/01/2021, Julius Filep, 55, exited a stopped car and walked into the oncoming lane of traffic on State Route 18 in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Officer Mitchell Ngai of the East Brunswick Police Department was operating a marked patrol vehicle, responding to a reported motor vehicle accident in the southbound lanes. At approximately 4:13 a.m., Officer Ngai, traveling northbound near the accident site, struck and killed Filep.

On 07/31/2021, Hector Mario Nava Jr. died after a traffic stop and detention by the Jal Police Department in Jal, New Mexico. Police stopped Nava after reporting that he was driving without headlights and alleged he gave false identification. Officers handcuffed Nava and forced him into a caged compartment in a K9 patrol vehicle. Federal prosecutors later alleged officers deployed a Taser repeatedly during the effort to confine him. Nava was then transported to jail. Police records and federal filings described Nava becoming unresponsive during custody, after which he stopped breathing and died. The City of Jal later settled a wrongful death and excessive force claim brought by Nava’s estate. In 2024, federal charges were filed against Jal officers related to the incident, and in 2025, federal reporting described convictions tied to Nava’s death.

On 07/31/2021, Keith Wayne Homrighausen was shot and killed by deputies with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Centennial, Colorado. Deputies responded to a report of a fight between two men at a family gathering near South Jericho Street. When deputies arrived, Homrighausen retreated into a garage and barricaded himself. He was observed with a handgun and refused to exit the garage. According to investigators, Homrighausen fired at deputies multiple times during the encounter. Deputies returned fire. A SWAT team later entered the garage and found Homrighausen deceased. The Arapahoe County coroner ruled his manner of death a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds. On 07/31/2021, 28 year old Jonathan Calderon was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ruben Garcia in Kuna, Idaho. Kuna Police pursued the vehicle after Garcia was suspected of driving under the influence. The vehicle crashed, resulting in Calderon’s death. On July 31, 2021, at approximately 4:08 a.m., Celina Police officers observed a blue 2004 Acura run a stop sign. Officers pursued the vehicle after it was observed swerving on the roadway.

The driver, later identified as 33-year-old Chad R. Rammel, did not stop as officers activated their lights and sirens. Police escalated a chase to speeds exceeding 95 mph. police alleged that they “called the chase” apparently moments before a crash was reported on a deserted narrow country Road just passed four in the morning we’re all allegedly Rammel died in a single vehicle crash. Chad Rammell, the driver, and so occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation by the Ohio State Patrol.

A short time later, Mercer County Central Dispatch received a report of a crash on Mud Pike Road. Responders from the Ohio Highway Patrol and Mercer County Sheriff's Office discovered the crashed Acura. Rammel, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On July 31, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a head-on collision occurred on State Route 86 near Sells, Arizona, involving a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle and another car. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The Border Patrol agent was identified as Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Daniel Paul Cox, a 24-year veteran of the agency and a U.S. Army veteran. The identity of the other driver has not been disclosed. The incident is under investigation by the Tohono O’odham Police Department.
