On 07/10/2021, Maplewood Police officers pursued a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 36-year-old Scott Hardy of Wadena. During the chase, Hardy sped through Washington County and crashed into another vehicle, killing 80-year-old Shirley Bilden of Maplewood. Hardy was arrested and later convicted of fleeing police resulting in death. In April 2024, he was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison.

On July 15, 2021, at approximately 1:00 p.m., an Edmonson County deputy observed a stolen motorcycle operated by 34-year-old Kristopher M. Burden of Leitchfield, Kentucky, traveling southbound on Highway 259 North in the Kyrock area. Burden made an unlawful turn, nearly striking another vehicle. The deputy initiated a pursuit, which continued as Burden turned west onto Sunfish Bee Spring Road. He failed to negotiate a curve, exited the roadway, struck a road sign and guardrail, and was ejected from the motorcycle. Burden was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Edmonson County Coroner. The Kentucky State Police investigated the incident.

On July 11, 2021, Shawn Marvin Thomas, 36, was shot and killed by deputies from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office following a pursuit that began on the Navajo Nation. Officers encountered James Holland Sr. Police described Holland as being in a mental health crisis. During the encounter, officers used a Taser multiple times and restrained Holland on the ground. Markell J. Nevels, a 19-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 9, 2021, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Police responded to the Campus Crossings Apartments around 10:40 a.m. after a report of a stolen vehicle. The owner of the white Lexus told police that Nevels was looking through the glove compartment and then pointed a handgun at him before fleeing in the car. The pursuit ended in front of the Regal Inn when Nevels allegedly rammed three Murfreesboro Police Department vehicles, a Rutherford County SUV, and a citizen's car. Nevels then fatally shot himself.

On 07/09/2021, Salem police responded to a call reporting a domestic disturbance at a residence on June Avenue NE. Callers reported that Arcadio Castillo III had been drinking, was holding a knife, and had assaulted family members. Responding officers were informed that Castillo had a history of mental illness. Officers positioned themselves outside the home and observed Castillo inside holding a knife. Police reported that Castillo did not put the knife down after commands were given. An officer opened fire and shot Castillo, killing him at the scene. Castillo was 23 years old. A grand jury later ruled the shooting justified. The city of Salem later reached a settlement with Castillo’s family in a civil lawsuit related to his death.

Wichita police officers were made aware of a man experiencing mental health issues and suicidal thoughts. The man had reportedly threatened his neighbors and pointed a gun at individuals in a Wichita business. In the evening, officers pursued the man through several areas of west Wichita. His vehicle veered off the road at 55th Street South and South Meridian Avenue and entered a wheat field. The speed of the vehicle and heat from the engine sparked a fire in the dry grass, engulfing the car in flames. The man died from burns and smoke inhalation.

Dorris "DJ" Acree, a 23-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 8, 2021, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Around 6 a.m., officers with the Clarksville Police Department attempted to serve a narcotics search warrant at an apartment on Cobalt Drive. An hours-long standoff ensued, during which officers tried to negotiate with Acree. Following the standoff, Acree was found deceased inside the apartment from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On 07/08/2021, Phoenix police responded to multiple 911 calls placed by Stanley Howard, who made repeated statements that prompted officers to go to a residence near North 27th Avenue and West Northern Avenue. Officers made contact with Howard at the location. According to reporting, Howard opened the door and stated that he had a gun. Four Phoenix police officers opened fire and shot Howard, killing him at the scene. Howard was 64 years old. After the shooting, authorities stated that the object Howard was holding was a water gun, not a firearm. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office later cleared the officers involved, and no charges were filed.

On 07/08/2021, New York City police officers on patrol in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn responded to the sound of gunfire outside a liquor store near Wilson Avenue. Officers located Steven Leconte and chased him on foot. According to reporting, officers stated that Leconte was holding a firearm and did not put it down during the encounter. Officers engaged Leconte and opened fire, killing him at the scene. Leconte was 53 years old. The New York Attorney General later reviewed the shooting and found it justified. No criminal charges were filed against the officers involved.

On July 8, 2021, at around 10:30 p.m., officers from the City of New York Police Department responded to reports of gunshots near Halsey Street and Wilson Avenue in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn. Upon arrival, the officers approached a group of people outside a liquor store and discovered three individuals with gunshot wounds.
The officers were informed that an armed man had fled on foot, heading westbound on Wilson Avenue. They pursued him and activated their body-worn cameras. The officers proceeded halfway down the block and located a man crouched on the sidewalk, holding a firearm in his left hand.

The officers ordered the man to drop the weapon. When he allegedly failed to comply and raised the firearm toward the officers, they opened fire, killing him.

On July 7, 2021, at approximately 3 p.m., Henrico County Police officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Eubank and Lewis Roads after observing a traffic violation. Christopher Lawrence Seay initially stopped, but he allegedly provided false information to officers. When police instructed Seay to park and turn off the engine, he fled the scene. Officers pursued Seay until his vehicle collided with another at the intersection of Williamsburg Road and S Airport Drive. Seay's vehicle overturned several times, ejecting him from the vehicle. He was killed in the crash.

On July 7, 2021, deputies from the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence incident at No. 1 Entrada Capulin in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Edward Daniel Santana, 45, allegedly stabbed his mother, Delia Cervantes, 67, multiple times. Deputies found Santana standing on a patio holding a fence post. He reportedly walked toward them "in an aggressive manner" and ignored commands to stop. One deputy deployed a Taser, but another deputy shot and killed Santana.

On July 7, 2021, at 8:57 a.m., an Indiana State Police trooper stopped a silver 2012 Ford Focus on I-94 eastbound at the 40-mile marker for several alleged traffic offenses, including following too closely and speeding in a construction zone with workers present. During the stop, the trooper discovered that the driver, Vernell F. Muhammad, had active warrants through La Porte County for aggravated assault. As the trooper attempted to place Muhammad into custody, he drove away. Police escalated a chase. Muhammad evaded stop sticks and continued driving until the 18.5-mile marker, where his vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck. Muhammad was ejected from the vehicle and killed.

Around 9 a.m., police reported a blue Charger speeding eastbound on Stan Schlueter Loop near Lions Park. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, they reportedly lost sight of it. Moments later, another officer spotted it on Trimmier Street and initiated a new pursuit. After turning onto Elms Road, the Charger collided with a silver SUV, killing its driver.

On July 7, 2021, at approximately 2:44 a.m., officers from the Medford Police Department responded to a business alarm at the Allergy and Asthma Center located at 3860 Crater Lake Avenue in Medford, Oregon. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of forced entry and organized a standoff. At approximately 3:05 a.m., 34-year-old Jerry Allen Gunter exited the building and advanced toward officers while armed with a knife. In response, Officers Levi Moffit and Cody Walker discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Gunter. A grand jury later reviewed the footage and evidence, concluding that the officers' use of deadly force was justified under Oregon law.
