According to reporting, McGrath was holding a shotgun during the encounter. Police stated that McGrath raised the firearm. Officers engaged McGrath and opened fire, killing him at the scene. McGrath was 52 years old. Authorities released limited information about commands given, distance, or de-escalation efforts prior to police opening fire. On July 6, 2021, a 32-year-old man named Steven Adam Calderon of Los Angeles died following a prolonged standoff with law enforcement in Paso Robles, California. Earlier the day before, officers had been called to an apartment complex around 4 p.m. after reports that Calderon had fired a weapon from a balcony, threatened a woman with a gun, and pointed a firearm at his girlfriend. He barricaded himself inside the residence while armed. The San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team was activated for the high-risk situation. After several hours of negotiation and multiple shots fired by him at officers or their armored vehicle, Calderon emerged early the next morning and set his gun down. He then allegedly reached toward the firearm while on the porch and was shot and fatally wounded by SWAT officers.

Around 12: 30 a.m., Officer Brian Cummings was chasing the man when he hit and killed Leneal Frazier, a father of five who was the uncle of Darnella Frazier, the teenager who recorded the video of George Floyd's death. The person police were chasing got away.

Officers responded to a call where a woman reported being assaulted by a man inside an apartment. When officers entered to arrest the man, a struggle broke out between one officer and the man. A second man, reportedly related to the man, intervened and began struggling with the officer as well. During the fight, one of the men allegedly tried to grab the officer’s gun, causing it to discharge. A second officer shot and killed Jose Benitez-Vasquez.

An armed robbery occurred at a hotel. Police chased several individuals, arresting one, while another fled in a vehicle. Wichita PD escalated a high-speed chase. At approximately 8:45 p.m. on July 6, 2021, officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Dr. W. J. Hodge Street. The driver of the vehicle did not stop. Officers escalated a chase. Police claim that they called off the chase moments before the driver ran a red light on Dr. W. J. Hodge Street and collided with a moped at the intersection of Broadway. The driver of the moped was killed. A second person on the moped was injured. The Kentucky State Police investigated the incident.

On 07/06/2021, Anne Arundel County police officers responded to a call at 1448 Stoney Point Way in Curtis Bay, Maryland, following a protective order hearing. Earlier, a protective order against Baltimore Police Officer Eric Banks Jr. was denied on June 25, but a second petition was granted at 3 p.m. on the same day. Officers found Dasan "DJ" Jones unresponsive in a hole in the wall with a white cover leaning on it, located upstairs in a loft area of the residence. DJ was discovered to have been strangled. Officer Eric Banks Jr., who was DJ's stepfather, was charged with second-degree murder, attempted disarming of a police officer, and child abuse resulting in death after the incident.

On 07/05/2021, the Le Center Police Department and Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office responded to a call after a woman reported she was assaulted and strangled by Michael Lee Elie. A standoff started around 9: 20 p.m. Two children, ages 12 and 4, were still hiding in the house. Police talked to Elie on the phone, but he refused to come outside. They convinced him to let the children leave the home. Officers breached the home at around 7: 15 a.m. and found Elie dead with a self-inflicted gunshot.

On July 5th, 2021, at approximately 11:08 a.m., San Antonio Police responded to a report of shots fired at 234 Noria, where a man with two guns reportedly shot at a reporter and cameraman. Officers later located Eduardo Mendez Amezquita at 322 Noria, where he had forced his way into an occupied home and threatened to kill the occupants while physically assaulting one of them. Negotiators spent four hours attempting to communicate with Amezquita, who threatened to burn down the house. At approximately 3 p.m., Amezquita exited the home, armed with a pistol, and was shot and killed by five officers around 3:17 p.m.

On 07/05/2021, CHP officers initiated a vehicle pursuit that began in the Pasadena area and ended in downtown Los Angeles when the fleeing driver rammed a patrol car. The driver was shot by officers following the crash and died at the scene. The circumstances around the ramming and the subsequent use of force are under investigation.

On 07/04/2021, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers pursued a BMW traveling at very high speed in Northwest Jacksonville. The vehicle lost control on Edgewood Avenue North near Shenandoah Avenue, crossed the median, and struck a Chevrolet Suburban before bursting into flames. Pamela Stone, 48, was trapped inside the BMW and pronounced dead at the scene. Five others were injured, including a police officer who sustained burns while attempting to help. The crash remains under investigation.

On July 4, 2021, at approximately 1:09 p.m., a Sampson County Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black Mazda 3000 pickup truck at the intersection of Laurel Lake Road and Lakewood School Road in Salemburg, North Carolina. Craig Locklear, 49, was observed in the bed of the truck. As the deputy approached, Locklear raised himself up and pulled a firearm from his pants pocket. Despite repeated commands from the deputy and pleas from two of Locklear’s family members to drop the weapon, Locklear refused and stated he was not going to jail.

Locklear then pointed the firearm, identified as a Forjas Taurus SA .357 Magnum revolver with six live rounds, at the deputy. In response, the deputy discharged their weapon, fatally striking Locklear. There was no evidence that Locklear fired his weapon. The incident was reviewed by the district attorney, who determined that the deputy’s actions were justified under the circumstances.

On July 4, 2021, at approximately 11 p.m., deputies from the Portage County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on 7334 Bennington Pike in Ravenna, Ohio. A woman and her two children had fled the home to seek safety at a neighbor’s house, reporting concerns of physical harm from her husband, 36-year-old Matthew J. Morse.

On 07/03/2021, a high-speed pursuit of an Acura TLX northbound on 14th Street NW in Washington, D.C. ended when the driver ran a red light and collided with the Hyundai Elantra driven by 20-year-old Jamya Williams at the intersection of 14th and K Streets. The impact also struck two additional vehicles. Williams of Greenbelt, Maryland, died the following day from her injuries. Police are seeking two individuals who fled the scene.

On July 3, 2021, 66-year-old Robert D. McDermid of Joplin was a bystander killed during a police pursuit initiated by the Duquesne Police Department. Officers responded to a report of a male driver passed out in a vehicle blocking a driveway in the 800 block of South Rex Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the driver showing signs of intoxication. He drove away northbound on Rex Avenue. A Duquesne Police Department officer observed the vehicle and initiated a pursuit eastbound on 7th Street. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of 7th Street and Duquesne Road. McDermid, the driver of one of the vehicles, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is conducting the crash investigation, while the Joplin Police Department is handling the criminal investigation.

On July 3, 2021, Ashley Slama, 23, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Devan Michael Potter, 22, along with another passenger, Ryen Swiatly, 24. After leaving Bobbers Island Grill around 2 a.m., Potter was stopped by Sauk County Deputy Matthew Tate for a loud exhaust and a tail light issue. When the deputy approached, Potter quickly fled the scene, and the deputy did not pursue. About 10 minutes later, the deputy informed other law enforcement agencies that he had located the vehicle about a mile east of Gillem Road, overturned in a ditch. Slama was killed in the crash. Potter was charged with fleeing an officer resulting in death, homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, driving without a valid license, and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

At about 9 p.m., Pantego Police attempted to pull over a vehicle for a minor violation, but the driver fled. The officer pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens for 32 seconds before losing sight of it. The officer terminated the chase, but the pursued vehicle continued, running several red lights and speeding over 100 mph. The car slammed into Douglas Osiemo's vehicle at the intersection of West Arkansas and Cooper Street, pushing his car under a box truck. Osiemo was killed, and the driver of the pursued vehicle fled on foot. Osiemo was working for a food delivery service at the time.

On July 2, 2021, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Wilkes County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a residence on Traphill Ridge Road to serve a warrant for 37-year-old Thomas Charlie Billings, a suspect in the stabbing death of 31-year-old Tracy Renee Rash earlier that day in Caldwell County. Deputies encountered Billings standing outside the residence armed with a rifle. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Billings refused to comply. On July 1, 2021, Spotsylvania deputies, Orange officers, and deputy U.S. Marshals went to a home to arrest a man wanted on probation violation charges from Dinwiddie and Colonial Heights, as well as pending gun- and theft-related charges in Orange County and Spotsylvania. On 07/01/2021, Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at Redline Performance Group on Fairburn Road in Douglasville around 9:40 a.m. Deputies encountered Jesus Rodriguez, who matched the description provided by the caller. Police stated that Rodriguez did not stop when deputies approached and that deputies chased him. Deputies later confronted Rodriguez, and police reported that he was holding a knife during the encounter. Deputies opened fire and shot Rodriguez, killing him at the scene. Rodriguez was 23 years old. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to review the shooting, and the investigation was reported as pending at the time of coverage.

On July 1, 2021, officers from the Cleveland Division of Police were in the area of East 93rd Street and Dickens Avenue when they encountered a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Richard Gaines. Gaines reportedly rammed police vehicles and drove away from the area.

On June 28, 2021, a deputy observed a motorcycle traveling recklessly northbound on Eastern Bypass and attempted to stop the driver. The motorcyclist, Josemanuel "Chema" Antonio Delgado Alva, continued onto U.S. 29 at a high rate of speed. Additional deputies and Virginia State Police joined the pursuit. The motorcyclist attempted to turn into a crossover but lost control while traveling too fast. The motorcycle crossed the median into the southbound lanes of Route 29, where it struck two vehicles, resulting in the motorcyclist's death.
