On May 9, 2025, at approximately 2:46 a.m., Pittsburgh police responded to reports of a man acting erratically and walking in and out of traffic near Saw Mill Run Boulevard and Bausman Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered 29-year-old James Richard Brown Jr., who attempted to enter a police vehicle and refused commands. Officers took him to the ground and placed him in custody, observing injuries to his head and road rash. Emergency Medical Services were called to treat him. While being attended to by paramedics, Brown went into cardiac arrest and was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Prior to the police encounter, Brown had exited his vehicle, leaving it running, and walked away, leading the vehicle to drift into a building. Witnesses reported that he attempted to enter a pickup truck, which drove away, dragging him toward Warrington Avenue. The Allegheny County Police Department is investigating the incident.

On May 8, 2025, Clark County Sheriff's Deputy Bryson Layton fatally stabbed Marc Fogle during a DUI investigation at the Washington State Patrol Scale House in Ridgefield, Washington. The incident began around 11 p.m. when deputies responded to a crash near Northeast 14th Court and Minnehaha Street in Vancouver, where a vehicle had collided with two parked cars. Believing the driver to be impaired, deputies arrested him and transported him to the Ridgefield facility for a breath-alcohol test. While in the breath-testing room, Fogle allegedly attempted to seize the deputy's firearm, leading to a physical altercation. The deputy stabbed him multiple times. On May 7, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., a deputy from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a 2014 Kia Optima driven by 36-year-old Isaiah Thomas of Thibodaux, who was wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation. Thomas drove northbound on Louisiana Highway 308 at a high rate of speed. Police escalated a pursuit. The deputy allegedly called off the chase; however, Thomas attempted to pass a northbound 2024 Nissan Frontier in a marked no-passing zone and collided head-on with a southbound 2021 Honda Accord. The Kia then sideswiped the Nissan and a southbound 2023 Ford F-150. Thomas, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site. All other drivers involved were properly restrained and sustained either minor injuries or were uninjured. Standard blood toxicology samples were collected from Thomas for analysis. All other drivers involved voluntarily submitted breath or blood toxicology samples for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
