On May 4, 2025, at approximately 9:28 a.m., a child inside 1705 Fontana Ranch Road in Hughson called 911 to report that both of her parents were deceased. Deputies from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and Modesto Police responded. They safely removed two children from the home, then located the bodies of Dinella “Danee” Madrigal Hutsell, 37, and her husband, Sgt. Daniel Hutsell, 40. Investigators have classified the incident as a murder-suicide.

On 05/04/2025 around 11:15 p.m., Racine Police attempted to arrest a man wanted in connection with a violent domestic abuse assault from earlier that day. As officers approached near 17th Street and Franklin Street, the man attempted to flee in a vehicle but crashed about half a block away. After exiting the vehicle, police say he raised a handgun, and an officer opened fire, killing him at the scene. The officer was wearing a body camera and has been placed on administrative leave. The Wisconsin Department of Justice is leading the investigation with assistance from State Patrol and the State Crime Lab.

On May 4, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute involving a firearm at a residence on Bryson Heights Drive in Simpsonville. Upon arrival, deputies were able to safely remove the victim from the home. The man, identified as 34-year-old James Daniel Webster Jr., remained inside the residence. Police shot and killed him under undisclosed circumstances. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting an independent investigation, as per standard protocol.

On May 4, 2025, around 12:15 p.m., Lebanon Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 400 block of North Monroe Street. They found a woman outside with a gunshot wound. She was hospitalized. The armed man, Roger Starnes, barricaded himself inside. A standoff ensued and the Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT team responded. After hours of attempted negotiations, officers entered the home and found Starnes dead from a gunshot wound.

On May 4, 2025, Tulsa police officers responded to a chaotic shooting scene near East 2nd Street South and South Elgin Avenue during a large gathering. Officers were already on-site due to the size of the crowd when multiple people began shooting. Officers identified 21-year-old Thurman Wilson as one of the armed individuals firing from behind them. On May 4, 2025, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Officer Patrick Burke responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Normandy Estates Mobile Home Park. A woman reported that her boyfriend, Michael Lee Wright, had attacked her earlier that day. Upon arrival, Officer Burke encountered Wright, who aggressively confronted the officer by attacking the patrol vehicle and jumping onto its hood. Wright then charged at Officer Burke with an object in his hand, later identified as a pair of scissors. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Wright continued his assault. Officer Burke opened fire multiple times. Wright was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Prior to incident, Wright had reportedly sent a text message to his girlfriend stating, "I'm going to die today," and during the confrontation, he repeatedly told the officer, "Just kill me." The man attempted to flee on foot and fired a pistol at the officer, striking his protective vest. The security officer returned fire, striking the man. The man fired again, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The man was later found dead at the scene. The injured officer was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Houston Police are investigating, and the case will be presented to a Harris County grand jury.

Police chased the motorcycle but claimed they had called off the chase near Lafayette Street, however, Glens Falls police observed the motorcycle crash on Bacon Street near Glen Street moments later. Morehouse died at the scene. His passenger, Suzie J. Etu, 38, of South Glens Falls, was taken to Glens Falls Hospital where she later died.

On 05/03/2025 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Pine Bluff Police responded to a domestic violence call at the Park View Apartments at 300 W. 13th Street. A man had barricaded himself inside an apartment, and a standoff ensued. After hours of attempted negotiation, 54-year-old Melvin Sanders surrendered and was taken into custody with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand while 43-year-old Yashika Morris was killed during the standoff. Sanders was charged with capital murder.

On May 9, 2025, just before 11:00 p.m., ALEA troopers say 44-year-old Willie T. Wills of Moundville attempted to evade a Brent Police Department traffic stop on Alabama Highway 5 near mile marker 84, approximately two miles south of Brent. Wills’ 2024 Dodge Hornet collided head-on with a 2019 GMC Acadia driven by a 41-year-old Brent man, Jason G. Corley. Wills, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acadia and two juvenile passengers sustained injuries and were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa and local hospitals. Multiple agencies assisted the response, including Brent and Centreville fire departments, Brierfield Rescue, and local EMS. The crash remains under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.

On May 2, 2025, Ventura County Sheriff's deputies responded to a grand theft report at a Target store in Camarillo. The man, identified as 26-year-old Matyes Getachew, fled the scene in a black Honda SUV. Deputies initiated a pursuit that continued through Thousand Oaks and into Simi Valley. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over the chase on the 118 Freeway at Balboa Boulevard in Granada Hills. The chase reached speeds exceeding 110 mph, weaving through traffic and ended when Getachew's vehicle collided with the rear of a dump truck on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Ocean View Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge. Getachew was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 11:18 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

Gregory Leschishin, a well-known local boxing coach, was out for his regular walk on Rogers Street when he was struck by a vehicle that had been chased into a crash by police. The driver carjacked another vehicle after jumping on the hood and screaming at the driver. Lowell Police were actively searching for him when he drove the stolen car onto the sidewalk and hit Leschishin. The impact caused life-threatening injuries, and Leschishin died four days later at Lahey Hospital.

A Morgan County Sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man while responding to a 911 call about an unwanted person at a residence on Ray Cross Road in the Mossy Grove area. Upon arrival, the man reportedly picked up a large rock and advanced toward the deputy. The deputy fired multiple shots, striking the man. Officers performed CPR until EMS arrived and transported him to Roane County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Following a grand jury review, Deputy Charles Faircloth was indicted on charges of criminally negligent homicide and official misconduct in connection with the death of Cox.

Gregory Williams, 42, was shot and killed by New Orleans police outside the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street after officers responded to a call about a man experiencing an overdose. On May 1, 2025, Cincinnati police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill. Officers approached four individuals inside the vehicle, who fled on foot. During the pursuit, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton allegedly pointed a handgun at an officer. The officer opened fire, killing him. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered but had not been fired. On May 1, 2025, Orlando police officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man waving a gun near a 7-Eleven and other nearby businesses along Conroy Road. The man, identified as 25-year-old Orlin Manuel Bueso Calderon, was seen entering a dry cleaners and walking through a strip mall parking lot while holding what appeared to be a handgun.Officers located Calderon in the parking lot of the Bella Vita Apartments at 4620 Cason Cove Drive. Five officers opened fire, fatally striking him. The weapon recovered at the scene was determined to be a simulated firearm resembling a Glock handgun, possibly a BB or pellet gun. Calderon had a prior criminal history, including charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and possession of cocaine. No officers were injured during the incident. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation into the shooting.

Around 3:27 a.m. on April 30, 2025, deputies responded to a 911 call about a man damaging property and threatening the caller inside a residence on Palm Circle in Palm Shores. The caller locked herself in a bathroom and said the man was out of control. A deputy arrived and helped the woman escape the home. As the deputy approached the front door to make contact, the man emerged holding a knife and advanced toward him. The deputy opened fire and struck the man. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Upon arrival, a man barricaded himself inside the home. After several hours of negotiation, the man exited the residence and allegedly fired a handgun at deputies. Deputies returned fire, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured. Marina Vasconcelos, a 24-year-old doctoral student at the University of Delaware, was killed when Gordon Turner, 22, drove away at high speed from Newark Police in an overdue-for-return U-Haul van. As officers approached the van parked on East Main Street, Turner drove over a curb, hit a police vehicle, and sped away. Police claim that they did not chase but the crash reportedly occurred as part of a failed police traffic stop. Moments later, Turner lost control of the vehicle, striking Vasconcelos and seriously injuring another graduate student, before colliding with multiple parked cars and causing additional injuries. Turner was charged with second-degree murder and multiple other offenses, held on a $305,500 cash bond.

On April 28, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Oro Valley Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Tohono Chul Botanical Gardens. Upon arrival, officers found the main gate closed and locked. Inside the facility, they observed a pickup truck with its windows shattered. Officers encountered 31-year-old Alfred Lopez-Minor, a former employee of the Garden Bistro, an independently operated restaurant within the park. Lopez-Minor fired multiple shots in the direction of the officers. As Lopez-Minor exited the east side of the building, he allegedly then brought his hands together in a manner perceived as an imminent threat, prompting officers to fire multiple shots. Despite life-saving efforts, Lopez-Minor died at the scene. A handgun was recovered near his body.The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team (PRCIT) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

Upon arrival, they encountered 37-year-old Jody Renee Cobia, the homeowner who allegedly had a gun. During the encounter, police shot and killed Cobia under undisclosed circumstances in her own home. It remains undisclosed who called police and why they arrived and killed the homeowner in her own home. Court records indicate that Cobia was a legal resident of the home, having sole possession as part of a protection order granted in August. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

The identity of the individual who called the police has not been disclosed in the available reports. The circumstances leading to the shooting, including the nature of the reported burglary and the actions of both the officers and Cobia, are under investigation.

Incidentally, her mother, Susan L. Talafous, who had a significant background in government and law enforcement, had encountered such profound problems with Cheyenne PD that she detailed it on her LinkedIn page which is posted in the source links below. Talafous was a fed gov investigator, a prison official, who had accused Casper PD of murdering her parents over some documents. The mother died from unknown causes. Now the granddaughter was killed by the same Casper PD.
