On April 28, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Oro Valley Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Tohono Chul Botanical Gardens. Upon arrival, officers found the main gate closed and locked. Inside the facility, they observed a pickup truck with its windows shattered. Officers encountered 31-year-old Alfred Lopez-Minor, a former employee of the Garden Bistro, an independently operated restaurant within the park. Lopez-Minor fired multiple shots in the direction of the officers. As Lopez-Minor exited the east side of the building, he allegedly then brought his hands together in a manner perceived as an imminent threat, prompting officers to fire multiple shots. Despite life-saving efforts, Lopez-Minor died at the scene. A handgun was recovered near his body.The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team (PRCIT) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

On April 28, 2025, South San Francisco police responded to reports of a man firing into a neighbor’s home on the 300 block of Arroyo Dr. Brian Joseph Montana, 60, exchanged gunfire with officers for ~25 minutes using multiple firearms while taking cover behind vehicles and landscaping. An officer-involved shooting ended the standoff; Montana was pronounced dead at the scene. One neighbor sustained a non-life-threatening injury. On Aug. 14, 2025, the San Mateo County District Attorney concluded Officer Jeffrey Lee’s use of deadly force was legally justified; SSFPD later released critical-incident video.

Event : Homeowner killed by police who responded to burglary report

On April 28, 2025, around 12:36 a.m., Casper Police officers responded to a report of an armed burglary at 1623 S. McKinley Street. Upon arrival, they encountered 37-year-old Jody Renee Cobia, the homeowner who allegedly had a gun. During the encounter, police shot and killed Cobia under undisclosed circumstances in her own home. It remains undisclosed who called police and why they arrived and killed the homeowner in her own home. Court records indicate that Cobia was a legal resident of the home, having sole possession as part of a protection order granted in August. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
The identity of the individual who called the police has not been disclosed in the available reports. The circumstances leading to the shooting, including the nature of the reported burglary and the actions of both the officers and Cobia, are under investigation.
Incidentally, her mother, Susan L. Talafous, who had a significant background in government and law enforcement, had encountered such profound problems with Cheyenne PD that she detailed it on her LinkedIn page which is posted in the source links below. Talafous was a fed gov investigator, a prison official, who had accused Casper PD of murdering her parents over some documents. The mother died from unknown causes. Now the granddaughter was killed by the same Casper PD.
