Northwood Police were sent to a domestic disturbance call in a fight between Malcolm Burns and his father. Police arrived and allegedly engaged in an altercation with Burns and shot and killed him.

On 10/01/2024, the Sunset Police Department and the Opelousas Police Department located a vehicle reported stolen from a commercial parking lot. The vehicle, driven by 17-year-old Tashawn Jackson, did not stop when officers attempted a traffic stop. Police escalated a high-speed pursuit, reportedly exceeding speeds of 100 mph that ended when the vehicle crashed in the 1100 block of East Vine Street. Tashawn Jackson was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the crash site. The investigation into the pursuit and crash is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed the names of the officers involved.
