Officers escalated a pursuit that ended in the 400 block of E. Leith Street. In an alley, Caston reportedly began shooting, striking a police vehicle. Officers returned fire, hitting Caston.

According to reports, Gamez and Ambernovana Guadalupe Gradillas, 24, were involved in several armed robberies before arranging a drug deal on 09/13/2024. During the meeting, Gamez shot and killed Manuel Avechuco, 44. Following the murder, Gamez and Gradillas fled the scene.
On 09/14/2024, police located Gamez at an apartment complex in Tucson. During an attempted arrest, Gamez fired at officers, damaging a patrol vehicle. Police escalated the encounter, and Gamez ultimately shot himself. Gradillas was later arrested and charged with felony murder and robbery.

On 09/13/2024, at approximately 8:40 a.m., a 38-year-old female driver was traveling northbound on I-75 near Dix Highway in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Her Ford Explorer struck the median wall before continuing down the freeway and colliding with a Michigan State Police patrol vehicle. The patrol vehicle, occupied by Motor Carrier Officer (MCO) Daniel Kerstetter, was conducting a traffic stop on a semi-truck on the right shoulder. The impact pushed the patrol vehicle into the rear of the semi-truck. The female driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Kerstetter was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Officer Kerstetter succumbed to his injuries and was taken off life support on 09/15/2024.
