On August 17, 2024, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Paulding County Sheriff's Office deputies, including 30-year-old Deputy Brandon Cunningham, responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Foggy Creek Lane in Hiram, Georgia. On August 15, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Laurens County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute at a residence in the 2000 block of Sudie Pearl Jones Road in Alamo, Georgia. Upon arrival, a deputy found that the suspect, Curtis “CJ” Glen Purvis Jr., had already left the scene. While the deputy was speaking with the victim, Purvis Jr. returned, driving his vehicle into another car and striking the victim's father. In response, the deputy fired at Purvis Jr.'s vehicle before it came to a stop.

Purvis Jr. then exited the vehicle, entered the home, and stabbed the initial victim. When he emerged from the house armed with a knife, the deputy shot him. On 08/13/2024, Jose Barrera, 62, was found dead inside the Bexar County Jail. He had been booked earlier that day for violating the annual sex offender registry requirements. Another inmate, 28-year-old Anthony Chase McGruder, was charged with Barrera's murder. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, McGruder admitted to investigators that he "killed a guy." Witnesses reported seeing McGruder assault Barrera earlier in the day, including striking him with a sandal and later choking him with a sheet. On the night of August 13, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to a disturbance at the Greenbriar Apartments located at 4840 East 43rd Avenue. The call was made by Easter Leafa's sister, who reported that the 16-year-old girl was threatening others in the apartment while holding a knife. Officers arrived at the scene and attempted to manage the situation by isolating Leafa from other individuals in the apartment. After officers asked her to show her hands, Leafa stood up and removed a blanket she was holding, revealing a knife at waist height. Despite commands to drop the weapon, Leafa advanced toward the officers. In response, Officer Alexander Roman fired three rounds, striking her. Another officer deployed a less-lethal projectile during the altercation. Leafa was provided with first aid on site and transported to a hospital, where she was declared deceased.

A man had allegedly robbed a bank and fled. Five law enforcement agencies hunted him at high speed for over 20 miles. Bertie County deputies were sent to the home of Tyshawn Barnes for an involuntary mental health commitment order. Police announced over the loudspeaker orders for Barnes to come out. A family member came out with his hands up as it was evident the residents were worried about police. Barnes exited the residence. Police claim he had a firearm. The weapon did not discharge and he went back into the residence, came out, fired a shot at a patrol vehicle. Police shot Barnes. Three deputies fired shots, killing him.
