On January 7, 2025, officers from the Sanford Police Department responded to a domestic situation at 1616 Columbine Road in Sanford, North Carolina. A female victim had fled to a neighbor's house, reporting that she had been held against her will but managed to escape. Police secured the area and obtained an arrest warrant for the man, identified as 50-year-old David Wayne Worth, on charges of second-degree kidnapping. Upon entering the residence around 10:40 p.m., officers found Worth deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Shane Lawhorn, 43, was found dead from a gunshot wound following a vehicle chase initiated by Virginia State Police in Rockbridge County. The incident began when Lawhorn reportedly fled a traffic stop. Police escalated a chase that ended when his vehicle became disabled, and police engaged him in a shootout between Lawhorn and law enforcement officers. Lawhorn was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed whether the gunshot was self-inflicted or resulted from police gunfire. The incident is currently under investigation.

A man was fatally shot by Houston police on Caddo Road in northeast Houston while responding to reports of a burglary involving a vehicle. Officers opened fire, struck him an unknown number of times, and pronounced him dead at the scene.
