On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers with the Kenner Police Department attempted to stop a gold Honda Pilot driven by 26-year-old Elvin Santos Banegas in connection with alleged road-rage behavior in the vicinity of Airline Highway and Taylor Street.
When Banegas refused to stop, officers escalated the encounter into a high-speed pursuit, with speeds reportedly reaching 90 miles per hour. The chase moved northbound on Taylor Street, where Banegas crossed West Metairie Avenue, vaulted over a curb and canal, and crashed into the opposite canal bank.
The vehicle sustained significant damage in the crash. Banegas was found critically injured and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police stated that the initial incident appeared to involve a second vehicle, described as a red Ford Mustang, which may have played a role in the original road-rage situation. On Thursday, July 10, 2025, around 2:12 p.m., a Wheat Ridge police officer recognized 44-year-old Duane Robert Butts, wanted on a felony warrant, near West 32nd Avenue and Youngfield Street. On 07/10/2025, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a Yamaha motorcycle reportedly exceeding 100 mph on Route 11 near I-80. The rider, 33-year-old Adam Mihely of Jefferson, continued into Youngstown. Around 6:55 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a stabbing at Valley’s Edge RV Park in Sheridan. David Erwin Jordan, 60, had reportedly stabbed two people with a large knife.
