On April 26, 2025, Columbia County deputies attempted to serve a temporary protective order to James Blake Montgomery, 38, during a traffic stop on I-20 near Exit 194. Initially cooperative, Montgomery suddenly opened fire with a converted fully automatic 9mm AR pistol, fatally shooting Deputy Brandon Sikes and critically injuring Deputy Gavin White. Deputies Andrew Brown and Jared Mason returned fire. Montgomery attempted to flee in his RV but crashed into a median barrier. He was later found dead inside the RV. Investigators discovered pipe bombs, firearms, and bomb-making materials in the vehicle. Deputy White underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.

On April 17, 2025, Robert Smith, 35, of Cookeville, Tennessee, was wanted for aggravated assault out of Nashville. He allegedly kidnapped a woman and her child in Atlanta, demanding she drive him to Nashville at gunpoint. Another neighbor, Doreather Woods, shared, "Everything I know about him was nice... He was just a nice person." On March 8, 2025, at approximately 7:10 p.m., 54-year-old Russell David Payne drove to a residence on Wood Station Road in Rock Spring, Georgia, where his estranged wife, Jacklyn D. Payne, was residing with her father, Eugene "Jack" Denny. Payne fired multiple rounds into the rear of the house before entering and fatally shooting both Jacklyn and Eugene. Off-duty Chickamauga Police Officer Charles "Chuck" Dunn, a longtime family friend present at the scene, attempted to intervene and was critically injured during the confrontation. Payne then died by suicide at the scene. Officer Dunn was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on March 13, 2025. On 02/19/2025, 60-year-old Eric Snyder collapsed inside his cell at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, located at 668 Oglethorpe Street in Macon, Georgia. He was pronounced dead that afternoon. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office reported the incident, and Coroner Leon Jones confirmed Snyder's death. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

On 02/17/2025, at approximately 4:30 AM, Columbia County Sheriff's deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 15-year-old Gordon Carmichael, who did not stop. Officers escalated a chase until he lost control of the vehicle, crashed, and died. He was pronounced dead at the crash site. On 02/13/2025, a Blackshear Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Corey Ray Beale. Beale did not stop. Police escalated a chase that entered Brantley County. The Pierce County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol joined the chase. A Georgia State Trooper performed a PIT maneuver on Beale's car, ending the pursuit along Highway 32 near the intersection of Highways 32 and 301. After the car came to a stop, Beale shot himself while inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On February 10, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a Gwinnett County Police Department officer was driving east on Beaver Ruin Road near the I-85 interchange in Norcross, Georgia. During this time, 19-year-old Martinez Greenlee III reportedly began crossing the road. The officer's vehicle struck Greenlee. Greenlee was transported to a local hospital by Gwinnett Fire and EMS personnel but died from his injuries. The Georgia State Patrol and the Gwinnett County Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.
