On 11/17/2025 deputies responded to a residence after the mother of the children fled with her five-year-old child and reported that her husband had threatened to kill her children. The two stepsons aged 14 and 16 were found inside the home having been shot. When deputies confronted Eric Grigsby outside the house he allegedly held two handguns and pointed them at officers. Deputies fired and struck him and he died at the scene.

On 11/17/2025, deputies responded to a reported armed robbery involving Robert Butler Jr. Police attempted a traffic stop, and Butler continued driving. Deputies escalated a chase onto Dallas Drive. Butler’s vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and he was ejected into a ditch. A patrol car came to rest on top of his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 11/16/2025 at approximately 2:00 a.m. troopers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling over 100 mph on GA 204. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. A trooper executed a second PIT maneuver which caused the vehicle to crash into a median wall and overturn. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

On 11/14/2025 officers responded to a home on the 6700 block of Lakewood Drive after shots were reported inside the residence. The scene was later determined to involve a murder-suicide inside the home. Also during the initial response an officer fired his gun.

On 11/11/2025, 20-year-old Dalyn Elder of Augusta was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. after being hospitalized following a shoot-out with deputies on 10/02/2025. The incident began when deputies responded to a robbery at a gas station on Washington Road, and Elder who was not one of the robbery suspects fled and opened fire on deputies. One deputy sustained gunshot wounds. Elder remained hospitalized until his death.

On 11/07/2025, Crisp County deputies pursued a man reportedly wanted on active warrants near the area of Crisp County High School. The chase ended near the 1500 block of East 16th Avenue when the man exited his vehicle, fired at deputies, and police opened fire, killing him. On 11/04/2025, a pursuit by the Clayton County Police Department ended in a fatal crash on Interstate 75 near Exit 228 in Jonesboro. On 10/27/2025, around midnight, a Wrightsville police officer and a firefighter were standing outside a gas station on East College Street in Wrightsville, Georgia. Diamond Daspin Seltzer approached and attacked the firefighter with a large bladed weapon described as a machete or sword. The officer intervened and opened fire, striking Seltzer. On October 24, 2025, officers with the Smyrna Police Department attempted a felony traffic stop around 6 a.m. on McLinden Avenue near Concord Road involving a reportedly stolen U-Haul truck. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Darrick Desawn Rooks of Marietta, was found dead inside the vehicle from a gunshot wound. Investigators determined the wound was self-inflicted. On October 22, 2025, around 6:10 p.m., officers from the Cobb County Police Department responded to reports of a hit-and-run and located Timothy Lyle Sheats walking in the roadway. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Sheats told an officer he had been shot, though no visible injuries were observed. The officer asked him to get into his patrol car for safety; Sheats refused and began walking into traffic, at one point attempting to enter a passing vehicle. The officer then deployed a taser. Sheats became unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. On 09/27/2025, Gwinnett County Deputy Tamara Tuitt-Bartlett was shot and killed in a domestic-related incident at a townhouse in the Villages at Shakerag subdivision in Johns Creek, Forsyth County. Her teenage son was also shot multiple times but survived after fleeing to a neighbor’s house for help. Responding officers found Tuitt-Bartlett dead in an upstairs room. On 09/25/2025 in the afternoon, Valdosta police responded to S.L. Mason Elementary School after an officer observed a man with a firearm allegedly entering the campus. The man was shot by officers and pronounced dead on the school grounds. The identities of the officers and the deceased have not been released. On September 4, 2025, at approximately 3:39 a.m., Locust Grove officers responded to a house fire on Cadence Street. They forced entry and encountered Stefan Lee, 29, holding a large knife. After firing Tasers and beanbag rounds failed, Lee moved toward officers and was shot and killed at the scene. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and discovered Jazzlyn Philips, 26, deceased in an upstairs bedroom due to severe burns. Authorities evacuated two women and a child who were locked inside another bedroom. On 08/24/2025, a deputy from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a gold Toyota Camry near the Jimmie Dyess Parkway on-ramp to Interstate 20 east. The driver was identified as Martel Kyles, who was wanted for simple assault by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and known for violent tendencies. Police escalated a high-speed chase across multiple jurisdictions. He drove eastbound on I-20 and exited at Exit 195, proceeding onto Wheeler Road, then Belair Frontage Road.
Police report that he began losing control, entering oncoming lanes and continued. Yet despite this, police continued to chase him onto Park West Drive, Old Wheeler Road, and Wrightsboro Road at speeds above 100 miles an hour. Police deployed stop sticks at Wrightsboro Road and Hagin Road, puncturing the driver-side tires. A PIT maneuver was attempted but traffic conditions prevented it. Kyles ultimately lost control, hit a sign on John Deere Parkway, and his vehicle rolled, coming to rest on its roof. He was found ejected and unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger survived without serious injury.

On 08/23/2025 at approximately 2:40 p.m., a Gordon County deputy attempted to stop a Mercedes on Interstate 75 near Exit 317. Police escalated a chase that continued south to Exit 312 and into the intersection of State Route 53 and the bypass. The pursued vehicle crossed into oncoming lanes and collided head-on with another car. A bystander in the other car was killed, and three additional people were injured.

On 08/11/2025 at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Quitman County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from a woman who had escaped an attack at a residence near Lucy Lane off State Route 39. Sheriff Charles Davis located Maurice Antwan Spann at the scene, and Spann allegedly attacked the sheriff. In response, the sheriff shot and killed Spann. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation, and a medical examiner’s autopsy is underway. The case will be reviewed by the Pataula County Judicial Circuit.

Police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Browns Bridge Road. The driver, Daniel Thomas Davis, continued driving, and the chase ended at the intersection of Browns Bridge Road and Shady Grove Road when the vehicle crashed. On August 7, 2025, officers attempted to arrest 30-year-old Dalton Sears on a probation violation in the Dollar General parking lot on West Coffee Street in Hazlehurst. Sears threatened to cut his throat or force officers to shoot him. During the standoff, he inflicted a fatal stab wound to his neck as officers moved in. Despite efforts to intervene, he died from his injuries after being taken to Jeff Davis Hospital.

On the afternoon of August 6, 2025, a Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen from Hardy Chevrolet on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville. Georgia State Patrol troopers located the truck and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. The chase quickly escalated to speeds exceeding 100 mph as the pursued vehicle sped through Hall County toward Jackson County.
Troopers attempted several PIT maneuvers at highway speeds, all unsuccessful. During the pursuit, the truck’s unsecured dog, riding in the bed, was thrown from the vehicle onto the roadway. Witnesses confirmed the ejection happened while the chase was still underway; authorities have not released details on the dog’s condition or whereabouts afterward.
The vehicle continued to be chased south on Candler Road (State Route 60) where he slammed into the rear of 50-year-old Agustin Rivera’s vehicle, forcing it off the road and into trees. Rivera suffered catastrophic injuries and died at the scene. Davis did not stop and continued to flee until troopers performed another PIT maneuver on GA-332 near Talmo, disabling the truck. The driver ran on foot but was subdued with a taser and taken into custody.
Rivera’s death was the direct result of the high-speed pursuit and collision.

Around 1:00 a.m. on July 31, 2025, Fairburn police attempted to stop a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 28-year-old in connection to a previous kidnapping. The driver did not stop, and officers escalated a high speedpursuit onto I-85 northbound near Senoia Road. Police conducted a PIT maneuver, causing the vehicle to hit the median and roll over during which the man was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. Georgia State Patrol responded after the crash.
